WOW, what a real Luthier can do in less than 12 HOURS Yep, Hours, not Years!

It's a real shame, I gave him a second chance, after he stuffed up the inlays, paint and removed the serial number on my Widow bass, I told him to get the Ironbird right, or I would kill him. He is such a nice bloke, but he is too old and nice to hit, he's most likely at the end of his career now. The bass is now in the hands of someone who says abot 4-6 weeks :-)
No need to ask if that's good for metal.
???? It's a Jazz bass!
What were you getting done?
THe truss rod nut was snapped clean off, so fretboard off job, new one installed, refret, and I was going to get him to strip the paint off, so it could be sent away for a respray
I hope you've at least been given all the missing bits back?
Yep, I made sure of that, especially as there were some brand new expensive parts on the Kahler :-)
Why did you leave it with him for THREE years?
Because it took him 2 years to mess up my Widow bass
-
If this is who I think it is, then I'm glad he never got back to me when I enquired about the possibility of him making me a 5-string version of a certain iconic bass of his...
If it's a guy in Devon, C E, then yes, be glad

One of the top Luthiers in the country, seems to lack enthusiasm for work apparently

Someone asked me for a picture of my B.C.Rich Ironbird bass I took it to a Luthier 3 YEARS ago, here are the pictures Photo 1 is how it went there Photo 2 is how I picked it up on Friday As you can imagine, I am not at all happy about it

Hipshot Triple Lock individual saddles - Advice, Experience please
Lorne replied to boggie's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've got very similar saddles on my 2007 B.C.Rich Widow bass, mine were made by Novax, and to be honest, I hate 'em, if you are in the habit of having your hand by the bridge, the edges feel sharp and uncomfortable -
Aria experts/geeks/anoraks...Pro II Integra IGB-SPT?
Lorne replied to iconic's topic in Bass Guitars
All I can tell you is this bass does not appear in 1981 1982 1983 1984 1985 1986 1988 1989 Catalogues Other than that, I am of no help whatsoever, sorry -

PHIL LYNOTT TRIBUTE BASS!!!! NO, REALLY.....!!!!!
Lorne replied to Grassie's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I don't need a tribute bass, I have one the great man himself used for 2 days, so his sweat is in it somewhere, it hasn't made me a better player though LOL -
Here's one of 'em A better picture of the front And here's t'other
Wow, impressive list, didn't know there were so many, and impressive work to make it! Going to have some fun giving them all a visit.
Please don't visit Eccleshall, you'll slow down the repair of my B.C.Rich Ironbird, which he has only had for about 2 and a half years !
Nice collection. My point was that BC Rich are a very distinctive brand with a very strong identity and associations, so are more likely to successfully feature in a "brands that don't seem to mix" pairing. The Spector/Streamer thing was a separate suggestion.
Whilst I agree with you in point, there are always exceptions to every rule The bass to the very right of the picture is a 1996 USA Handmade B.C.Rich Innovator bass, and if it didn't have B.C.Rich written on the headstock, a lot of people wouldn't think it was one. BTW I used to play a Bich 8 string in a Jazz band MANY years ago LOL
haha, brilliant. none the wiser so far apart from swaying slightly more towards the white. @ Dingus: as it happens i love 80s hair metal I'm getting a Euro 4LX but custom spec so with gold hardware. I was thinking initially of black as it looks awesome with the gold hardware, but then so does white. the white one might stand out a bit more...hmmm, i dunno!?!?!
Trust me, I have 2 Black B.C.Rich Widow basses, they always look filthy :-(
Been doing more sanding today. started at 180 grit, then 280 grit and finished at 400 grit. The wood on the back and sides is nice and smooth now but I'm going to do more with 800 and probably 1000 grit to finish it. I'm going to sand the fingerboard with finer papers too. I've been doing some measuring for pickup placement. The front pickup (neck) is being placed in the same position as those on my Status S2 and ESP. I never solo the front pickup as I don't like the sound from a front pickup on it's own. Back pickup (bridge) is much more critical. This is a pickup I do solo from time to time. I have placed the back edge of it 45mm from the centre of the G saddle. The back pickup on the Status is very much closer to the bridge and gives quite a brittle tone on it's own. My Tokai Jazz has it's bridge pickup back edge 55mm from the G saddle and has a much warmer tone to it but still keeping that tighter feel of a back pickup. Do any of you have any words of wisdom on this subject?
I would move the neck pick up slightly towards the bridge, increase the distance between the 2 pick ups so the bridge pick up is nearer the bridge too, as It just doesn't look right to me, as you have it pictured, not meaning to be rude, however it's your bass, keep up the good work :-)
Of the major or more well known brands, this will be tricky. BC Rich may be a good starting point. Actually, does anyone have a Streamer AND a Spector? With all the accusations of one copying the other, the 'rivalry' could mean that people are in one camp or the other.
Eh?
