1. I've just got weird hearing - super sensitive to the point where it can easily become overwhelmed. It's great for recording and mixing because I can pick out all the little details but useless when walking around Toys'r'us on a Saturday afternoon. I've had all sorts of tests on my hearing because this can also affect my balance but basically it's just a peculiar "feature" of my particular hearing and I have learnt to put up with it.
2.
I can also agree that if you want a Sterling 5, and you have to order, you may as well get the HS.
Is the "H" pickup in the same position in a HS configuration as in a standard H or is it moved closer to the bridge to accommodate the addition of the single coil pickup in the neck position? By the way, I've got a Sterling 4H and it is indeed a wonderful thing. I also have a Spector Euro 5LX and at some point I might even consider swapping that for a Sterling 5 stringer.
3. Excuse my ignorance on things Stingray, but what's different on a "classic" when compared to a standard modern Stingray?
4.
Going for 3 - Layla (Dereck and the Dominos) - You can feel the pain in each note when Clapton lets rip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Izfg7YU9VgE Then One Small Day - Ultravox. Midge Ure is a VERY underated guitarist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydywCOCr46k Finally a hip hop record of sorts - Bomb the Bass - Dont Make Me Wait. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_42p66WeM0
If we're talking Utravox then you've got to mention Billy Currie's keyboard solos... http://youtu.be/rTUoYDYcM0o
5. David Gilmour's solo from Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" is one of my favourites.
6.
saw the original Nephilim 4 times back in the day, awesome on stage
I saw them quite a few times as well before they split - some of the best gigs I've been to. I also saw them when they did a one-off show at the Astoria about 10 years ago, with Gary Numan's guitarist (Steve Harris) on guitar but I didn't recognise any of the other band members, and while it was OK it was nothing like the old Nephilim. I've not seen them since Tony returned but I have seen Tony with the Eden House and he's still got it.
7. One of the guys he references is this guy - Gil Scott-Heron; don't know why I'd never heard of him before - I might have to find out a bit more about him. http://youtu.be/OET8SVAGELA
8. Tony Pettitt, from Fields of the Nephilim and the Eden House, talks about his Warwick SS2, his influences and his music, and says "you know" rather a lot. http://youtube.com/watch?v=MpL5ZrZ1ODI
9. I remember some "church" guy who was a regular on the news a few years ago, his name was Cardinal Sinn.
10. There was someone on here, a little while ago, practically giving away a Yamaha SY85. It's a few years old (quite a few actually - I used to have one about 20 years ago) but it's got great synth, piano and organ sounds on it (some really usable and quite original presets). The only thing it hasn't got built in is an arpegiator so you will have to play these yourself (if you want them) but it has got an extremely easy to use multi-track / multi-timbral sequencer that you could program some parts into if you don't fancy playing everything "live".
11.
More than likely someone will be playing them and the computer is a Acer pc with 4gb memory and an Intel i5 processor.
You're also going to need a low latency ASIO audio interface otherwise you'll have around half a second delay between the keys on the keyboard being pressed and the note being played.
12. Nile Funkin' Rodgers! Yeah! Sorry for that outburst, normal behaviour will now resume.
13.
I tend to find if my tastes have moved on or an artist is past their best, there is usually a track or two that still hold my interest. I found the Stones last Blues LP wasn't as good as the reviews suggested (to be honest the classic LPs were drying up back in the 80s). They won't do Sticky Fingers again but I still buy. Lots of artists fit this bill for me but I think I go into eyes wide open.
That's probably why I still keep buying albums by my "old favourites" - on a 12 track CD, there are often at least 2 or 3 good tracks.
14.
I used to buy Metallica but they've been mostly sh*te for years now so i gave up on them.
The last few have been pretty poor. Queensryche became pretty poor too for the last few albums before Geoff Tate and the rest of the band parted company but I still bought the CDs in the hope that they would be better than they turned out to be.
15. So, based on a question in a previous thread - are there any bands and artists whose music you still buy, probably out of loyalty, even though you know it's probably not going to be very good? For me it'll probably be Depeche Mode I'm afraid - their last album to excite me was "Ultra" but I still buy every new one when it comes out just in case and each time I end up disappointed.
16.
most rehearsal rooms I know provide a backline and basic drum kit (bring beakables)saves lugging you gear to practice every week, makes it a lot more enjoyable
Things have changed! When I was gigging, all the rehearsal studios would provide was a PA and a few beaten up old mics.
17.
Thanks for the response. By Flat I read somewhere that it's a 3rd way up on the bass and a little less on the treble (Or other way round lol), either way it doesn't cut through anywhere near as nice as my jazz does.
You'd be surprised how many people think that the Tone Pump is boost only. I think I have mine at about 12 o'clock for both but that's the 5 string variant with the EMG DC soapbars (quite a modern sounding pickup) - I assume yours is the PJ?
18.
Amps? For the use of the bands? Blimey, the studio we use has electric light and a Dimplex heater. And that's it.
We always used to bring our own backline as well. Is it expected now for rehearsal studios to provide this?
19. Don't forget that despite what you might have read, the Tone Pump pre-amp is not gain only. If by having it flat you mean that both bass and treble controls are at their minimum, then you will actually be attenuating the higher frequencies and thereby reducing its ability to "cut through".
20. The mix sounds pretty good too, with some nice prominent bass (and we all thought the BBC didn't do bass).
21.
Whoever the house band is, they are bossing it. The bassist is laying down some lovely stuff.
The backing for Black Eyed Peas was excellent.
22. It's the same with trem-spring covers (or whatever you call them) on the backs of guitars. Firstly, why take them off? And secondly, why not put them back on after?
23. You can't talk about being in the wrong key without mentioning Jemini at the Eurovision Song Contest finals a few years ago... http://youtu.be/Eu5kgSeZHfw
24. I did a JAN 1 to JAN 3 replacement on my SS1. The brass JAN 3s are very nice.
25. And another happy customer of Manchester Guitar Tech here too.
