Singers who arrive for soundcheck late so avoid the carrying of weighty P.A gear in to the venue , still can't remember the words to songs we have rehearsed a hundred times and then always have an excuse to leave early and avoid the loading of the van !
+1000. And they come away with gems like "ha ha I love being the singer all I've got to carry is a tune". What's with line checks! I like a good old sound check to warm up with. Waiting for the drummer : The excellent drummer in my covers band likes to end a song then do all this stuff -> find towel -> wipe sweat -> sip water -> reposition stool -> reposition bass drum and accoutrement's -> tighten up cymbals -> reposition cymbals -> un-clip snare then clip it up again -> check set list -> scratch arse -> pick nose -> then he looks up at our expectant faces like "well, are you ready?" Once or twice a set ok but after what seems like every bloody song is just excruciating. Mind you our rhythm guitarist couldn't hold on any longer once and had to take a toilet break 3 songs from the end of our set and got lost on the way - got a huge round of applause when he eventually found the stage again. Stage fountains : When you take the 1st gentle sip from your pre-positioned bottle of beer and it froths over......... you try and catch it by quickly stuffing it in your mouth but it exits all available orifices and you have to jump about like a pansy so it doesn't get into your bass then you put it down on your set list (coz you don't like to leave a mess) and the ink runs and you have to share someone else's and you loose concentration coz you've just waisted a couple of mls of beer and then you think of something witty that you should have done to turn it into a rock n roll wheeze instead of looking like a noob that can't handle his shandy but it's too late and everyone thinks your a git then you forget all about it until you're tidying up and you loop a sticky, gritty lead around you arm........... No?...... Just me then. Happens every time.

1979 Kramer aluminium necked Bass...SOLD
Queen Bassist, John Deacon had one one of these. Although I am not sure he used it live, he definately used it as a back-up and it is on the Play The Game video (1980). ..
...and here's that vid. Forgot how great this tune is too - been looking for an unusual cover for my heavy original band and this might just do the trick. The pre-solo where F nicks poodle man Bs guitar fills me with inspiration for the re-arrangement - would be good to kick it off with the da-da-bah bit.. Likewise, good luck with the sale. -

Thanks for your replies guys. I've got v big hands too but I prefer skinny necked basses for some reason - bigger than J feels weird. On the other hand my 6 string acoustic is a 12 with only 6 strings fitted because normal necks feel too small. Weird. -

It ticks a few boxes for me. 1) Ibanez 2) square edged body and 3) very local (no postage). I absolutely love the thin, fast neck on my SRX300. Nick - would you say the neck on this one is similar? (it looks a little fat in these pics) I just noticed all the questions on it now, looks like it's attracting a fair bit of attention. -

Ah poop. I was watching that one. He was the guy that sold the ZZB. -
Ah well now I know. Ta Jon. And cheers Matt for your +1. You won't believe how many times I counted and recounted. I thought I was loosing it.

I can't see where you guys are getting 21 frets from. I've blown up the pic just to make sure (wish I'd done it before bidding) and it has 20 and is definitely the same neck I've got here. I don't know what a zero fret is. But I'll tell you what kind of an idiot (although his reply was nice enough) he is BB - he hasn't changed the listing since getting my email, therefore he is knowing misrepresenting the items. Perhaps he knew all along about this neck too. I mean the listing for this and especially this is creative writing at it's best.
Doh!
Hey quit skiving and get back to work. BTW my aria ZZB auction went down the Suwannee too.

I won this neck on ebags for a song but as usual it was too good to be true. He calls himself "a guitar tech by trade" in his other auctions so I couldn't help being a tad sarcy.
Hi the neck arrived in good nick today. It would have been perfect for what I had in mind only it is a 20 fret neck and not a 22 as advertised - the angle of the pic wasn't too helpful in this regard either. I was really after a 21 fret but when I saw your auction decided 22 (although unusual and would probably need a little alteration) would do. 20 frets is just not suitable for my requirements. Therefore I am going to have to return it to you and ask for a full refund. Also, to save any further confusion and hassle I should add that the (unloaded) P style bass neck you have for sale is also a 20 fret and not a 21 as stated in the description. The fully loaded one you have advertised is being described as a 21 fret too, again although not impossible, this would be a little unusual for a reissue (it is not easy to confirm from the pic) but seeing as you are a guitar tech by trade I assume you've not made the same basic error a third time. I look forward to your reply. Ooh I shouldn't) His past guitar auction descriptions are quite a larf too.

Café Drummond's Friday night. Big fun had by all. Usual rocky start - original plan to soundcheck at 6 gave way to line check 15 mins before we went on due to sound guy allegedly being elsewhere - he wasn't (?). Rumour had it that we were supposed to start at 10 so I paced my alcohol intake accordingly. There were 4 or 5 young bands on before us so we in fact got our line check at 12 so again I was a bit tipsy. I checked with Floyd's "Money". What a reaction! There was an audible gasp as the hubbub broke, then cheers followed by a room full of nodding and air punching. Sound guy (via stage monitors) had to say "ok" 3 times before I stopped. Gig was fantastic. We had a mosh pit and stage diving and inexplicably I had 1 particular fan approximately half my age right in front of me who thought my performance would be enhanced by occasionally pulling her top down for me (it actually had an adverse effect but it didn't stop me from having a f***ing good look ) her enthusiasm was still evident after the show but being a good boy I ran (well staggered to a taxi rank) home to the g/f. We had a 3 man film crew doing a dvd which was fun and probably added to the illusion that we are real rock stars . Another odd bit was that we were given cheesy t-shirts to wear over our own clobber at the start as a dedication to the drummer's bro, who's birthday it was. 3 songs in we got too hot and removed them, the singer threw his into the crowd, there was a scramble then they started baying for ours. We complied. So then we have the front row of tattooed moshers proudly wearing t-shirts with just the drummers brother's face on and nothing to do with the band whatsoever . We played a 2 hour set laced with more "jazz" notes than normal but the vibe was so good no-one bothered (or noticed) - the dvd will probably be a shocker for us blooper wise. One particular balls up I remember was there was a Finnish guy down the front requesting "Paranoid" (like you do at Pearl Jam gigs ???) so I gave him a few bars, the drummer joins in and I thought ah well let's run with it. Little did I know that by coincidence the next song in our set had an identical drum pattern and we had started. a swift poke in the ribs from the singer snapped me out of it. Instead of our normal flat fee of 400 the manager "de jour" (owner's son I believe) gave us a % of the door. His story is that (despite the place being packed) he had to pull 60 quid from the bar to make it up to 250 (Aye that'll be f***ing right) . Rest assured we'll be in touch with the owner for the rest of our fee - we wouldn't normally be fussed but there are a few out of town gigs coming up and we need it for van hire, digs etc. To sum up I'd say that technically it was the worst I've played in a while but I had a f***ing good time doing it. My neck hurts and I got the offer of some quality poontang. Oooh it's like living the dream!

Wicked spotting as usual but the CSL link is just the "EB-1 type thing" done again. Did you mean this un? -
Café Mambo's Aviemore. Very basic set up. No stage and only one 13amp socket, staff just cleared away some tables and let us get on with it. Sound check (vocal only PA) was to be on the fly as punters were still eating. Things took a dive when, as we were setting up (8:30pm) we discovered the drummer had forgotten his cymbals. A 2 hour trip back to Aberdeen to get them was out of the question so the hunt was on or the gig was a no no. An hour later someone turned up a single crash but the drummer insisted that he couldn't even attempt our set with just 1 cymbal so we put out an APB with a £50 reward. Some girls from our "entourage" have just stared a musical project so they filled for us with a few acoustic numbers including a cover of Skunk Anansie's Weak - went down really well - voices of angels. Within 5 minutes of our self imposed deadline 2 sets of cymbals turned up. Drummer was finally happy. Unfortunately all the waiting around resulted in a few more beers than normal. Never the less we played a blinder and folk were still coming in even when the usual exodus to the clubs empties the rest of the town and wouldn't let us go until we did 4 or 5 encores. Oh and I think I played with a broken bone in my right hand - long story. Youtube has sucked any definition out of this but you get teh general idea.
A function band I play in have 'Smooth Operator' on the set list (from the same album) - quality stuff! Cheers Dave
LOL the very first tune I learnt to play, bass, guitar or otherwise. My brother bought the single when it was in the charts and for some weird (seeing as I was a punk at the time) reason I spent a whole day in my bedroom sussing it out on my crappy wooden record player that only played 45's and had an actual sewing needle glued into the stylus and my step-dads Rik 4001 which I had only just been allowed to touch unsupervised, then I invited my mum upstairs to show her the fruits of my efforts. She stood in the doorway, waited until I finished then calmly said something like "Oh that's nice dear" and walked out again...... From that moment on I was hooked on that rush you get from an appreciative audience.

Well it don't get much cheaper than this. I got one of their rosewood satin jobs just before xmas for £8 just to see what you get and was pleasantly surprised really - a true neck with a working truss rod. I defretted it before actually playing it so can't comment on the fretting other than they were a bugger to get out. If you'd prefer a licenced product search for worldwide results. They are way cheaper in the states than they are here but watch out for shipping costs.

With the sparse bit of info here I'd say that on the whole Ps and Js are intererchangeable... but beware there are exceptions. If you don't mind putting teh "wrong" neck on it will serve the same purpose but will look odd to them that knows - hell it gives you something to talk about tho. If you're getting a replacement neck, to save a bit of hassle, it's often better to get an unused one as you are then able to drill holes exactly where you want them not where the last guy did. If this work is to be done on an expensive all original axe then ignore all of the above. If none of this makes sense excuse me coz I been putting the final coats of lacquer on my project bass and I definitely feeling the effect of the fumes :brow: :brow:

Ha ha. Aye, life just wouldn't be the same without a bit o Soundgarden.

Aye I saw those ones but as I've had a couple of dodgers on fleabay lately (prime eg. got an empty packet today supposed to be containing my 5th knob - replacement on it's way... apparently ) and counterfeit electronics from the east is rife, I plumped for not gambling on this one and paid twice the price ( ) to a more reputable source.
I thought that your better half was giving you the same look when you mentioned the possibility of another bass coming into the house that she does when you play "Money" more than once
Ah yes the fly in my GAS ointment. Did you get your SE-2A from Thomann? My SE-3 has just literally arrived... in a box... big enough for Jay to sit in it Aye Vorsprung durch technique like.

Actually the neck does look really short to me. It's not even the length of the body. Come to think of it the headstock is incredibly tiny too.
