As a cheapskate bodger with reasonable skills, I'd probably glue on a bit of oversized, carve-able plastic or wood then cunningly fashion it into the required 360 deg shaft with a sharp blade.

I don't come to the repairs and tech page too often unless I have questions so didn't see your post 'til now. I have the same rig as you and would be interested in seeing some pics of your chop job project. I made a rough diagram of mines innards using the same colour coding when I 1st got it if you'd like to compare. Mine are Sica drivers. I also have a newer ABM 410T with Celestions. It has 2 parallel 1/4" jack holes but no speakon. It's up against a wall just now with the Evo500 on top so I'd rather not shift it unless I need to (know what I mean) but if you want I could whip off the back plate and post a pic for you to check yours with.

I ended up measuring them myself and they turned out to be 8k . After a massive amount of fecking about in Maplins (apparently they don't employ staff that either man the components counter or can even tell the difference between a capacitor and a potentiometer anymore - that includes the bloody manager!!! ) I got 10k ones and a new cap. The 10k's work well but it means that the first quarter turn doesn't do much. BTW I emailed your mate (using his info@... link) but he's never gotten back to me.

I know nothing about Barfly but the guys in the band reckon it's a good venue and a we are looking to get our foot in the door in Glasgow. What they'll take over the bar will be many times more than what we take at the door so I don't know why they want to dip into our bit. If they'd asked for 15% or something to cover advertising then fair enough but to take half seems to be pushing it. I've been gigging for years and have never come across this arrangement before but I might just have been lucky.

I'm not sure the only hard info I have is the attached .doc - our "manager" is the one that's been in contact with them. What's the diff between up/downstairs?

We've been offered a gig in Barfly - Glasgow (which would be a 300 mile round trip for us) but they are asking for a what I consider to be a pretty hefty split of the door. excerpt from email - "Howz about we do £6 adv / £7 door? [b]Can we do a [color="#FF0000"]50/50 [/color]split with you guys[/b]?" This is a new one on me, we either work a set fee or take [b]all[/b] the door (minus the support's cut if we've laid them on). Is this normal or are we expected to haggle? Laughingly I told our manager that they can have 50% of the door if we get 50% of the bar.

I'm cleaning up my fretless J project and want to replace the old scratchy pots but thoughtfully they don't have any values written on them just the word "reflex". I have read on tinterweb that they are the same as EMG active pots therefore should be 25k logs. Can anyone confirm or dispel this convenient theory/rumour?

We did a gig in Edinburgh last week and 3 songs from the end of our 2 hour set my right index finger seized up in an excruciatingly tight "L" shape and a little dent appeared in my inner forearm. I thought "bloody hell that's weird" and plugged away using my middle finger instead until it freed itself up again. Then a couple of minutes later the exact same thing happened to my left index finger. I was like "eh?" then my right hand one joined in again and I thought to myself "f***ing hell I'm having a brain embolism right on the stage!" but even though I thought there was a slight possibility of death (I'm not a hypochondriac - I just watch too much CSI ) I soldiered on and got through the set (it's really hard to play without your left index finger) and happily it's not happened since. I think probably what had happened was that I'd just over done it that day. I'm known for my overly energetic performances and combined with the long drive down from Aberdeen, practically setting up the stage all by myself (removing all the furniture and cast iron tables, getting all the amps, cabs and monitors up) all because the lead guitar threw his rattle out of the pram coz the stage was too small (it was a joke of a stage) and not acoustically suitable for him so he just sat down and widdled about with his guitar ("warm up" he calls it but it usually gets him out of doing anything helpful) the drummer did his own stuff (fair enough) the singer was delayed at funeral (although he seems to think that as his instrument is his voice that he doesn't have any gear to set up anyway - Hello! PA!) and rhythm was pre-occupied with girlfriend and a bit inexperienced with setting up any way. To add insult to injury I had to pack the van away myself too (although the guys mucked in once they saw it was almost done ie. the singer took [b]a snare bag [/b]from said drummers hand and passed it into the van to me) and I almost passed out at one point when speaking to a satisfied punter. Rock 'n' roll eh? If I seem a bit bitter perhaps this'll put it into context - I'm the same age as both our guitarist's combined!

I've got stainless Fender flat 55-105's on my fretless, mainly because they were the only flat 105's that I could find at the time. Actually I wanted 110's but they were like hens teeth. The same set have been on this guitar in both fretted and fretless incarnations for over 4 or 5 years now (granted 3 of those years were spent tucked away in a case in the back room, unplayed - but they were still in tune after 3 years) and are still every bit as playable now.

Ha ha I was reading that for ages before it clicked. It's late ok. Anyway I ain't no lagger and that bass is me new mucker.

I was rather hoping that there were like lists of power hungry agents ready to make a buck out of us and do all that kinda work for us because we are but mere musicians and are therefore as much use as a trap door on a lifeboat when it comes to keeping appointments, making decisions or organising anything. I'll put an APB out on our webby anyway to the effect of what you said there Slaphappy. Cheers.

Just back from our weekly practice and OMFG! I decided to travel light for a change and just took my fretless and a lead - usually take my Ibanez + GT-6B etc. etc.. Frankly we sounded unbelievable! I was having fun and the new axe inspired little fills here and there and the guys were simply blown away by how pro it sounds and were full of compliments about my own playing. I chose a completely diff EQ too. Normally I go for smiley face but in order to get a purer fretless sound I went for a sad face. Played thru the house's Ashdown MAG 300 1x15 combo, normally it feels gutless but not tonight. I just wish I could use this guitar for the whole set, like I did tonight, but there are heavy songs that it just doesn't suit and I need the tightness of frets. However we've been booked for an acoustic private session in Feb so I will probably just take it along - it will be all prettied up by then too.
