Sounds like we do very gigs hahahaha the audience on functions and gigs dont care about the bass sounding like the record, they want to hear the song and sing along. I tried doing what you do but it didn't work for me, I hate playing with pedals, I wish I liked it because they sound cool as hell! The only pedal that works for me is a tuner, maybe maybe maybe a compressor. For you, do active or passive play better with your pedals?

In university - active On the ships - active with a passive switch Now - passive p bass! Also now - I'm looking for a jazz style bass, or atleast something with a bridge pickup. Actually fallen in love with the new ultra ii jazz 5 string. But like all the ken smith, f basses and boutique basses I've also tried recently, i tend to find THE tone I like and leave it. Maybe blend the pick ups a bit to alter the tone. But it's usually always, treble all the way off and boost the mids a lil, lean on the bridge pickup a lil. The rip your nads off tone. It's always been the same with me with active basses. I also get easily confused if I HAVE to start tinkering and am never happy with the tone, but that would generally be because of the room, or monitor mix, not a problem with the bass itself. The tinkering rarely solves this problem. But i do love passive! I can always find a workable tone with passive.

Yeah, the location is definitely the 2ns biggest hurdle after me being on the other side of the world. Its near Swansea. When I went back last year I had a play around and it was great! It was built in Germany in the around the 1890s apparently. I had to have the front panel restuck and the sound post put back (it was rolling around inside when I got it). But it'll still need some work! As for condition, it certainly looks its age! It looks cool as hell, but I couldn't picture it on a classical stage. -

Yeah I'm gonna see if my parents can work as a team and try to take some pictures of it, or get someone to help them. They know it'll have to be done, it's just they are old. I was hoping they'd be able to wait until I go back to visit. -

Yeah, he gave me 2 prices, one it would sell for and one i should insure it for. Unfortunately, lugging it 6 hours in the car each way isn't feasible for my parents. Being over 10 years ago, I've changed my phone and we only communicated through phone calls. I dont even remember his name, but after googling, I think I've come across him. He's proper old school, no web site, no email, no pictures. He was showing me some of the violins he was preparing and talking about them, he really knows his stuff and is clearly trusted by that clientèle. Then again, even if I did find him, I couldn't get my DB back to him to have a look. -

Tell me about it! The last thing remaining of me in the house is the massive double bass taking up all the cupboard space! Hahaha! I actually know it's German and how old it is. I'm wondering if I should have it revalued again. I guess to do that, my parents would have to cart it off to someone to have a look. Anybody know anyone in South West Wales 😆 My parents are going to deserve a cut from what I get for it! -

So, my double bass is in storage in my parents house in South-West Wales and they've decided they need that space for something else (understandly!). I need to find a way of selling it! Aaaaand I don't know where to start. A bit of history about the bass: It was sold to me buy a mate who got it from a mate, who got it from a mate, so very little was known about it and nobody had gotten it checked out. Turns out, it's OOOOLD. So i had it repaired by someone in Brighton about 10 years ago. I cant remember the guys name, but he's known for being Herbie Flower's guy. He's awesome! We didn't use emails for communication so I can't find our correspondence he valued it for me and its older and more expensive than I'd have imagined! I talked about the shape of the body and the colouring/aging of the vanish and stuff I'd never have thought of! I dont have any pictures, but will ask my parents to take some and ill post them later. Its certainly got some mojo but it's playable and sounds great! I was using it for blues and rockabilly stuff so I loaded it with plastic strings in a hope to emulate gut. A bit about the area: there is NOTHING. Which is why I moved to Brighton to go where the music was. My problem: I've been out of the loop for almost 8 years now as I've been in Japan, and I don't use social media so I've lost all my contacts. Also, there are no violin stores/repairers or anything of the sort in the area. Also, I'm not really a double bass guy, I have one, I enjoy it, but I'm an electric bass guy. So my knowledge of double bass, the market etc. is zero. Does anyone have any advice? Like, where to start or anything. I've told my parents that this is gonna take a while, it's more like a journey than a sale. -
Selling my La Bella Flatwounds that I bought as a back up for the set I had on my P bass. Why I bought them I don't know because you sure don't need a back set for these strings! Still fresh in their packaging. This gauge is £49.99 on strings direct (they are the heavy gauge strings). I'm selling for £30 including P&P!

Yeah, the bass works fine! It's been under my bed for a very long time, but I've taken it out and played it and it sounds great. I can include a hard case, it's not a Lakland one but it's an SKB. I'll research some couriers this morning if you have a preference, let me know. I've just responded to your PM.

It is your old bass yes!!! Its been an absolute star for, what is it..... 4/5 years now??? time flys!!! Everywhere i've taken it people have fallen in love with the way it sounds. I know i'm going to miss it when its gone, but I've come to find that i need a 5 string really for reading jobs. One of the reading band MD's i was just on a cruise ship with won't take anyone on unless they have a 5 string, just in case its needed (I was in the party band, not reading band). I know this isn't always the case, but it can't hurt to be prepared.

it's in great condition, theres a little bit of scuffing on the tip of the headstock (which is in the pictures) and I swapped the stock rubber knobs for black metal ones (ones found on sadowskys) because i thought they complimented the finish and colour better. Theres brand new DR Lo-riders on it. Oddly theres a screw missing out of the back of the E string tuning peg, only noticed it about a month ago, i have no idea how it fell out but it doesn't effect anything (theres a close up picture of the back of the A and E tuners so you can see the difference) My reasons for selling this bass is to get a 5 string, so i'm totally up for trades. In fact I'd rather trade and put cash towards a quality 5 string. I'll include a protection racket semi-hard case. I don't have any pictures of it but I can take some and put them up, now the case does have some tears but its still rock solid! Update: I am now selling because I am moving house so just need to get rid of things I don't use. I'm not interested in a trade. I am up for offers. *NOW JUST SELLING, NOT OPEN TO TRADES* Was [s] £750 + p&p[/s] [s]Now £700 + p&p [/s] Now £650 + p&p http://s1383.photobu...ry/?view=recent
Should also add that the 750 (or 751) partners the DB410 or GS410 really, really well. In fact the best live bass sound I've ever heard was a DB750 through a pair of GS410's as used by Paul Turner
YES! I agree, i saw Paul Turner with Jamiriquai and the sound was incredible! So I'm also gonna vote Aguilar. I thought he would have used a DB410 with his 750 but he used a GS410. i was surprised, but not shocked as both sets of cabs are amazing! I have a DB410 for sale as well.........just thought I'd kinda put that out there hahahaha!
