1. Your rack case and the Warwick are certainly standard. It's the MESA that at first sight appears not to be. What is the distance between hole centres on the MESA?
  2.
Which is pretty much what I was saying, to the best of my knowledge the easiest way to achieve this is to wire a log pot backwards... Or am I missing something ? Probably.
It'll operate in the opposite direction to taht which is normally acceptable. Blend pots usually comprise a log and an antilog track. As one pick-up goes up so the other comes down.
  3.
So you're saying my information and advice is no use then...?
I can't for one minute see how you can jump to that conclusion from the four words that I wrote. Reverse log pots are exactly that, a reverse log scale. Also known as Anti-log. I believe John uses them so he will know where to source one which was Joe's original question I believe.
  4.
thinking of getting one of these was wondering if it'd be any good on bass? just looking for something that would be loud and have that valve warmth. also the seller says the speaker impedences are 3.75, 7.5 and 15ohms this seems a bit wierd would it be fine to use a 4ohm cab with it on the 3.75 ohm setting and i guess using 2 4 ohm cabs would be out of the question?
That's not weird at all for equipment of that age. It was made at a time when the standard speaker impedance was 15-ohms and 1, 2 or 4 of them gives you those numbers. Because of the way valve amps work the speaker impedance has a direct effect on the circuitry of the output stage and it is important that the speakers match the tranformer tap as near as possible. A 4-ohm cab will work fine on the 3.75-ohm tap, likewise an 8-ohm will work with the 7.5-ohm. 2.4-ohms is a no-no. Unlike solid-state amps however a valve amp will deliver its full output into whatever speakers you have connected as long as the output transformer tap is set correctly.
  5.
Maaaaaaaan... I've been holding out for about year on finding a Dark Star pup second hand. Oh well... Can I ask why you decided to replace it with a Wizard?
I used it quite a bit but there was something about the sound that didn't do it for me. It's a very powerful pick-up and the distance between the strings and the pole pieces on the DD was very small so I think it was overloading or something. I just love the feel of the bass, especially the neck and wanted a much more traditional P-bass sound which is better suited to the music I play. I have a '78 P with a Jazz neck which is a bit like a broom handle and this has a lovely tone so I want the DD to sound like that. I'm not there yet. Have to try a Lindy next. I regret selling the one I had.
  6.
where?
Miraculously it was sold within minutes of my post here. The power of Basschat.
  7.
Dave Am I imagining things or didn't you have a Darkstar DD? Peter
My DD did have a Dark Star (factory fitted, probably prototype) but the sound was much too dark and overdriven for me so I've taken it out and have fitted a Wizard Classic 64. Now I think it sounds more like a P but still very bright compared with my '78 Fender P. Dark Star is for sale in my eBay Store.
  8. Are you following me? DJ4 and DD, though each to different specs. One day we'll do an A/B and see what the differences are. Seriously though they are great basses. Lovely necks. DD is only available in CAR. My DD now has Wizard 64 Classic pick-up. I tried a Thumper but didn't like the sound. May go back to it later when the new rig is all together.
  9. Reunion gig for band that played together 2000-2002. Not played together since 2002 apart from a single gig 20-months ago. Local pub. Great crowd. Pub manager said usually the space in front of the band is empty and the rest of the bar is full. For us it was the other way round. Much singing and dancing. No prior rehearsal. Played 3-hours without a break. 8;30pm til 11:30pm Only had an outline set list and we didn't keep to that. Mix of originals, covers and bar anthems. Just goes to show adrenaline works. No egos, no pretentions. None of us have lost it so it looks like we'll be doing some more very soon.
  10. J, J all the way. Oh and a Lakland, not a Fender.
  11.
On the bass side, I have several Sei basses...
You also once owned a Epifani UL502 which I purchased from you via the well known auction site.
  12. Dr.Dave had one. It got stolen so he made himself a copy (The famous SkipCab). This could be his stolen one or the SkipCab. I suggest you ask him for his opinions on it.

    Bass preamps?

I have a Peavey MAX pre-amp which I could be persuaded to part with. It's effectively the pre-amp section of the much-rated T-MAX bass amp. 1U rack mounting, 2 channels (valve and solid state with separate EQs, either channel or blend) cross-over, etc, etc. Nice bit of kit. Download the manual here
  14. Thanks for the advice. A Hercules is flying in for me.
  15.
Cheers, would it be possible to make me a cable with a 1/8" jack to do the job? I do have a little mixer but just want something simple for practice, my iAmp makes it very easy as it has a 1/8" input with level control.
I'll pm you this evening.
  16. Small Mono mixer : - FX send into Channel 1 Laptop into Channel 2 Mixer Out into FX Return OR FX Send into laptop Line In Laptop Line Out into FX Return Use software mixer in Laptop. OR Make a Y-cord with resistive mix in jack plug One leg of Y from FX Send to FX return Second leg of Y from PC line-out to FX Return ( need to resistive mix L&R ont he PC output) FX Return Jack contains Resistive Mixer. Set PC output level for required balance of Bass/PC.
  17.
I'm going to try it in my Fender P-Bass first, you can have it back if I don't keep it in there Ade
The only reason I sold it was so it could go back into the BG where it came from and make it back to a P. I sincerely hope it doesn't end up on eBay.
  18. I need to buy one. Any recommendations as to which are good quality and value, and which to avoid?
  19. Seeing as you are not putting it back to original are you going to sell me back the Lindy Fralin?
  20. Time for a bump. It works really well wired to 6-ohms. Any solid-state head or power-amp which is specified to deliver 500/600 watts into 4-ohms can really make it shift some air and it's loud even with a 100-watt valve head. I need to make some space in the garage for the incoming AD200B/NV610

    MKB Reunion Gig

Six years after disbanding and going their separate musical ways, MKB, the original Micky Kemp Band, are reforming to play this one-off gig for old times sake. "We just fancied getting back together and playing some of the early Micky Kemp compositions as well as a few covers from "The Boss", Steve Earle, Johnny Cash, etc. We did it about 18-months ago and since then people keep asking when we'll do it again, so this is it. If the weather is fine then we'll be out in the garden. A fun night and a great start to the Bank Holiday weekend." MKB comprises Micky Kemp - guitar and vocals, Ronnie Nutt - drums and vocals, Frankie Perri - lead guitar and vocals, Dave Polglaze - bass guitar and vocals, Nick Thurston - keyboard and guitar. Where: Malborough Head, The Woolmead, Farnham When: Friday 2nd May 2008 Time: 8:30pm til late
  22. When I started there were no tutors and only one book, by Chas McDevitt and Josephine Douglas. That got me playing basic scales and the rest was by listening/playing along to records and watching/listening to other bass players. 35 years later I took some lessons. Now I just have therapy.
  23.
wow this is all good news to me does anyone happen to know what cabs would sound best with it?
The 1999/2000 brochure shows it with matching 1248H 4x12-inch and a 1528 2x15-inch, both in matching green carpet. There was also a matching 1084, 8x10-inch. Personally I think it would be great with a BFC.
