It'd be a bit of a weird ohm thing though, how would that work a 5.3 and an 8, it's not something I'm very good at.
It could only work if you had an amp that will work down to 2-ohms or you use a 2-channel power amp with the UL115 on one channel and the UL310 on the other. That's one of the reasons I've sold my UL310. You could use a 16-ohm cab with a UL310 but they are a touch rare these days. As a single cab solution it is one of the best.
 2. Position yourself so you can watch the kick drum pedal. It's a lot easier than trying to hear it through the noise of guitars, etc. I suspect that you are hearing guitar parts and not the bass parts when listening to tracks.
 3. What a nice chap. Bought my black Lakland DJ5 and got his bass-playing father to drive him all the way round London to collect it.
 4. Walbassist used a Peavey DPC1400X digital power amp with his Epi Quest. 1U high, excellent spec

 6.
Yeh, the jack socket's a bit weird on this one, it's a rectangular black plastic box thing. It won't matter if I put in a normal socket will it? I assume the plastic isn't shielding or anything.
It's not a matter of whether it's an open-type jack socket or plastic box, the important thing are any additional contacts for switching the volts to the pre-amp.
Seymour Duncan Jazz Bass Wiring Diagram. Can someone tell me why on the neck and the bridge volume pots, the solder points that don't have wires connected look like they're bent backwards? Looking at my Jazz control plate, they haven't been. Should they be? Also why hasn't the unused solder point on the tone control been bent? Am I being really dense here?
The ones that are bent back are soldered onto the pot casing i.e. earth/ground. The tone control pot only uses 2 of the 3 terminals. It is used as a true variable resisot going from 0-ohms to 250k-ohms.

 9.
Dave, could I be cheeky and ask you to send me a copy of the V-Type schematic? I had it years ago but carelessly lost it when moving computers... Cheers! 10.
Had a brief email conversation with the guy that designed the TE preamp. It's based on the Alembic F1-X (is that right?) which in turn is based on the fender bassman pre. The original designs for which came out of an RCA manual, circa 1934!
Correct about the F1-X. I have the schematics for the F1-X, Trace V-series, Fender Bassman, BBE-BMAX-T, Trace V8(yes it's different) and they are all much the same component for component. I'm just about to have a look into a Peavey Max pre-amp valve section which at a glance again looks very similar. The Alembic F2-B is quite different.
 11.
In my other band, the bassist has quite a nice aria pro II 4 string. His bass randomly cuts out sometimes especially when you jiggle the jack lead going into it. I figured it must be the socket, but check and couldn't see anything. I told him to take it to a music shop, but then suggested he make sure it's not the battery first. I don't know why I suggested this, 'cos it seems to me an illogical idea - but it worked when he put a new battery in. Can anyone explain this? Is his bass a bit knackered or what? the old battery wasn't totally dead, but was on the way out.
It could well be the jack socket. Most basses use the ring contact of a Ring/Tip/Sleeve jack socket to ground one side of the battery. If this contact has lost its tension, is worn, displaced or just plain dirty then there could be an intermittent or high resistance contact causing low or zero volts to the onboard electronics. This would become noticeable as the battery volts drop.
 12. I've just been and temproarily rewired the cab to be single nominal 6-ohm input and been running it from the Epi 502 head. Sounds amazing. In terms of of amp power it's not a lot different to using a 5.3ohm cab.
 13. Have you tried swapping the wires over on one of the pick-ups? They may be out-of-phase and partially cancelling each other when both fully up.
 14.
Selmer / WEM / Bird / Fenton-Weill / Grampion / Dallas / Shaftesbury / Elpico ...
Sound City / Hiwatt / Linear / Vox / Roost / Laney / Orange / Traynor ....
 15. I would try Hipshot themselves. They have always been helpful and prompt. if you want a contact email then pm me.
 16.
US is 50 cycles & the UK is 60 cycles.
Other way round. UK is 50 hertz US is 60 hertz. There can be a problem using UK equipment in the US due to the higher rate of flux change in the transformer.
 17. Actually the 2-band is bass boost only and treble cut/boost. When he was designing his MM replacement 2-band pre-amp John East wrote an excellent description of how the circuit works for the old Dudepit. Regretably that no longer exists. Perhaps we could persuade him to write it again. If I remember the bass is desined to be boost only BUT because of the way the circuit works it gives the impression of bass cut and boost.
 18. Go back and ask him for a set of chord charts.
 19. Little Giant 2x500w would be a great amp for a Trace BFC.
 20. If its a bog standard SR4 pick-up with 2 wires and no coils switching then there is no reason why it shouldn't be used in passive mode. I tried an SR5 like that (hard wired for parallel) and it was fine. It'll still have that distinctive Stingray tone but you'll have to tweak the amp some to get a real Ray sound.
 21. So the question is "Should I mod the cab to make it 2 x 8-ohms" and then try and sell it?
 22.
So from your description, I can ascertain that it is a 2 Ohm cab??
I would have to say no. As made it has 3 sets of speakers, each of 4-ohms. The AH-1000 had 3 power amps 2x250watt and 1x 500-watt. I've thought out the various permutations and concluded that you could: Parallel the two 2x10s and putting them in series with the 1x15 you would get 6-ohms. This would work well with a decent solid-state amp. Put the two 2x10s in series to give 8-ohms and drive them from one channel of a power amp. Run the 1x15 from the other channel. Put the two 2x10s in series to give 8-ohms. Change the 1x15 to a 8-ohm driver. Put the 10s in parallel with the 15 to get 4-ohms. The possibilities are endless but you can never get 2-ohms. Where would you like it delivered?
 23. The mother and father of Trace Elliot speaker cabs. The reason/project for which I bought this has gone away so it's up for sale. Originally designed to work with the AH-1000 head it comprises 2 x (2x10-inch plus horn, 250-watt, 4-ohm) and 1 x 1x15-inch, 500-watt, 4-ohm. It would a simple matter to change the the 15-inch driver to an 8-ohm unit and rewire the 10s to give a total 4-ohm cab. £250 . Most certainly collect only or I can deliver with 100-miles of Farnham/Guildford for cost of the diesel.
 24. This time it's a 3U Flightcase Warehouse Case with a 300mm centre box section. Rack strip only a front. £50 posted or collect.
