1. I run a UL112 and a T112NYC from a UL502 amp. I've only once used the UL112 on it's own. The two cabs have different responses which complement each other. The NYC is very deep toned whereas the UL is more middy. I find it a great combination. Very loud, very punchy and nicely growly. Even at 5'6" tall I can carry both from the car in one trip.

  2.
I've played bass with Gerrard Kenny (wrote the Minder theme tune) on piano
He also wrote "New York, New York, (so good they named it twice)"

Saw him entertain at a dinner in London run by "D.E.A.F. - The Distiguished Engineers Audio Federation". It was a social organisation for the recording industry which raised money for deaf children. All I remember is that it was bl**dy loud. Nuff said.

  3. I'm sure this has all been done before but anyway -

I used to jam with Denny Laine (Moody Blues and Wings) when he was resident at the original Blues Tavern in Farnham

A previous band supported Doctor Feelgood on two occasions.

Also supported the Jones Gang (Kenny Jones -Small Faces/The Who, Rick Wills - Small Faces/Foreigner, Robert Hart - Bad Company)

We were also once supported by the Trevor Burton Band. Trevor was an original member of The Move.

Last year I had the pleasure of jamming one number wth Rick Sanders (Violin) of Fairport Convention. Awesome.

  4.
Whens the next one :)
Mustn't do it too often otherwise it devalues the occassion. I would think sometime in the spring.

Probably on a Sunday as some work on Saturdays and there is less chance of clashing with gigs. One question is during or out-of school holiday periods?

  5. Now that everything is done and dusted, today I was able to make a donation of £130 to the Meningitis Trust, this being the difference between the total attendees subscriptions and the cost of the room.

    Well done everyone.

  6.
I can recommend DR strings - hibeams, sunbeams or the fatbeams. Available from most places like stringbusters or stringsdirect etc. I haven't tried any flats on mine so can't speak for them.

    Hamster
+1

I fitted TI Flats onto my JOBO 5.

  7. I'm in the proces of checking one of these over for another BCer and had a browse through eBay to see what they sell for when I found this.

According to the manual these are 500w max output into 2-ohms and I'm not aware of a more powerful version.

Also according to the manual the consumption is 900watts.

Is he mixing his input with his output deliberately in order to hype up this modest little gem or can someone put me right?

  8. Thanks Nick. Glad you enjoyed it. Sorry DJ5 is not for sale.

Well we did it. 4 gigs in 3 days. Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday afternoon and Sunday night and my finger aren't at all sore, in fact they are nicely hardened.

Only sour point was that as we were packing up last night our drummer announced his intention to leave the band, in order to play something different, as soon as we can find a replacement.

  9. I think you'll have to try it and see. As you know already the Epi Ul310 likes to keep intimate contact with the floor in order to deliver lots of bass. I once put castors on a Trace 1048H, 10x4 and it just sucked all the bass out however some years prior to that I had a Marshall 4x10 on castors and that was just fine. Experimentation required me thinks.

You must let us know how you get on with the GK 2x12.

  10.
The fact is no1 has ever had an original thought in their life. any "original" thoughts are just a compliation of other's ideas and your own or other people's discoveries. Therefore all songs ever written at any time in history are all "watered down covers" if we go by that way of thinking.
So where did the first song come from - an Alien visitation?

  11.
They offer fans of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Stone Roses, Jeff Buckley and so many others, the chance to see a full live show "by" their favourite bands, when the real bands are either never going to tour again or rarely ever if at all play in their home towns.
Especially if half the members are dead from the neck up and the other half are dead from the neck down. :)

  12.
There is a camp who are firmly in the "people who play in covers bands aren't musicians and have just sold their souls .....
Applying that across the board would mean that anyone who plays for a symphony orchestra, theatre pit orchestra or backs an established solo artist is not a musician. A musician is someone who plays an instrument. Period.

  13. Hi Lee

At 5' 6" I suppose I'm vertically challenged but I play both 34" and 35" scale basses. It's the smaller hands that go with the small stature that are the problem. Getting a suitable neck width and thickness is most important. Jazz string spacing at the nut is a must although I've not found too much of problem with different bridges. Strangely enough I don't like flat necks either.

Remember if Suzi Quatro can play a full-size bass then sure as hell you can.

  14. I really regret selling my 1963 Framus Star bass in 1967 and giving up playing. I should have kept it and found another way to pay for a new roof for the car, but you can't turn the clock back. If ever I could find another at a sensible price I'd have it like a shot.

  15.
If anyone has one (or both) in close proximity to my location (Crowthorne, Berkshire) any chance of a noodle?

    Cheers
    P
If you can get to Farnham you are welcome to try my DJ4 and DJ5

  16. It depends quite a bit on the size of your hands. I once bought a Fender Jazz 5 on a whim and found that I physically couldn't play it as the neck was so wide.

In terms of performance, quality of build and value the Lakland DJ5 is it.

  17. Second Time Around are at the Crown in Knaphill on Friday 24th August. This pub hit the headlines a few months ago when the landlord decided to introduce pole-dancers as an alternative to smoking. Unfortunately they don't perform on Fridays. A couple of BCers live locally and have said they are coming.

On Sunday 26th August we have the second of the Chase Hospice charity gigs at the Marlborough Head, East Street, Farnham, Surrey. This should kick-off at about 2:00pm and because of an evening gig we're on at 3:00pm for an hour. The full progam of bands runs through until closing time.

If you are in the area, having nothing to do on Bank Holiday Sunday and like live music then come and support this worthwhile event. There is no charge for admission but the collection bucket is passed around the audience regularly so you can donate what you can.

If I manage to get the full progam I'll publish it.

  18.
Quick question.

If anyone on the group has a Lakland Joe Osbourn, could they let me know whether the control plate is the same as that of a Fender Jazz please...shape, screw holes etc.

I've seen a couple of these on a similar group across the point and while I'm still thinking hard about getting a Geddy Lee, the JO is also a distinct possibility too, but I'd like to convert the JO to a stack-knob configuration and it would be easier to buy an off-the-shelf bell plate for this purpose.

    Cheers
    P
JO is exactly the same as the Fender Jazz. USA Lakland JOs have the option of a stack-pot controls.

It's the Daryl Jones that has a different plate in that it is slightly curved.

FWIW I've just built a stack-knob set-up from imported components for a Fender Jazz.

  19.
and a big thanks to Dave for sorting out the room.
Thanks. BTW my Ashbory has screw mounted tuners so that's not the cause of the G detuning itself.
