1.
I'm looking for a price on 1/4 jack balanced feed cable (about 7m) - cant mail OBBM, haven't got Microsoft mail......anyone help?
You could try sending him a pm.
2. Steve recently bought my Mesa Boogie D800 amp. This was the second deal I've done with him and was faultless as always. Deal with total confidence. An excellent Basschatter.
3.
It puts the cabs in series - so the resulting load is 8 Ohm as opposed to the 2 Ohms it would be with them in parallel.
Nothing magic at all, just a simple bit of wiring. Input Socket (1+) -> Output Socket #1 (1+) Output Socket #1 (1-) -> Output Socket #2 (1+) Output Socket #2 (1-) -> Input Socket (1-)
4. Why not take your battery out and try it?
5.
I've done a few over the years & always found them incredibly tedious from a bass playing perspective, but then I'm really not a fan of blues stuff.
In general I agree however it does depends very much on the house band. We are very fortunate that at one of the local Jams the members of one house band also gig in other bands so we can get non-12-bar non-Blues numbers which makes life interesting.
6.
The big difference between an open mic and a jam, to me anyway, is....at an open mic its usually playing a song with people you dont know, but you all have some idea about the song you agree to play, an old classic probably. At a , real to me, jam, someone comes up with a bass line or a chord progression and the rest follow, add there interpretation, and it expands, ebbs and flows to suit the musicians.
That's interesting because it's totally not what happens in my area. Open Mics, are for individuals and groups of performers. They usually book a time slot with the organiser and perform two or three numbers. It's an opportunity for the budding solo singer songwriter to air their works to an audience. PA is provided by the organiser. These have only taken off in the last few years. Jam Sessions are run by an Organiser and his House Band. This could be an established band or a group of musician friends. They provide the PA, drums and back-line and in most cases get paid by the pub. Musicians turn up with their instruments, make themselves known to the Organiser who puts them into bands for 3 or 4 numbers. Usually the designated singer will suggest the numbers and a short discussion ensues. Who knows it, what are the chords, etc. it's all very light-hearted and off we go. If you are a regular then you get to know the other musicians and their favourite numbers. Often you get to play something that you might have heard but have never actually played. It makes you think on your feet, watch the others and most importantly listen. If you get hit with a number that you'd like to play better next time then go home and learn it. There are musicians of all levels and one must be tolerant of the novices. We all had to start somewhere but it does get a bit frustrating if they don't know what a 12-bar is, or they try to slap a Blues. There are also those magic moments when the grouping clicks and it all comes together to the great appreciation of the audience.
7. Condolences to his family and friends.
8.
It will have power as the singers will be using it so just thought I could hijack a spare channel and route the output to my speaker.
Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. The power amplifiers in the mixer will be driving the PA speakers. There will be no spare output to drive your cab.
9. Unless the mixer has integral power amps and you are not using both for PA, you will need a power amplifier in the chain. Your head contains a pre-amp and a power amp. The mixer would only replace the pre-amp section.
10.
Hi. Where are you based?
Between Farnham and Guildford in Surrey.
11. Retirement from regular gigging reluctantly means sale of my Mesa Boogie Subway D-800 Head includes: Soft case Power Cable Original Box This is an excellent amp which is in top condition and has had minimal use from new. Ideally like a straight sale but would entertain trades for Bergantino CN112, CN210 or Vanderkley 112 cab or cabs. Cash either way depending. £600 posted to the UK
12. Just hit 71 this year. I gave up regular gigging a couple of years ago. Not been the same since the Prostate Cancer op 8 years ago although I must confess that I also just got bored with the politics of the last band and the Saturday nights away from home. Probably just a symptom of old age. Nowadays I play 2 or 3 times a year for an Elvis tribute band for charity plus the occasional local jam however I have no intention of ever getting back into a regular gigging band. I've come to the conclusion that there are a lot better bass players younger than me and that I should call it a day and stand down. Still enjoy playing along to my favourites and learning new stuff at home however. Never say never.
13. At last I have a solution for combo IEM cables. See Affiliates section for more information.
14. Albatross - Fleetwood Mac Highway to Hell - AC/DC
15. RIP Chuck. Such a huge musical influence. Your music will live on for ever.
16. My Spector CTB Fretless (30 3/8-inch scale) came in a very nice Gator Pro-Go Gig Bag. Just checked and the internal length is a fraction over 41-inches.
17.
Hi Dave, on the Fishman website, under powerchip features it says 'Fishman-designed piezo volume control'. I'm pretty sure the Fishman vol is for piezo only. The circuit allows both signals to be mixed but the mag vol is before the circuit and functions independently to the piezo vol.
Thanks Ian. That is what I would have expected. By my reckoning the Powerschip is therefore faulty. I must confess that Fishman's information is somewhat lacking.
18. Having just got back from the Bass Show where I heard an interesting talk by Overwater's Chris May and had a long chat with John East, I decided to do some more digging around in the control cavity and searching on the net. By snipping ou the neat cable ties I've been able to establish that the Piezo is connected to a Fishman Powerchip board which is mounted on the back of the Piezo volume pot. According to info I found on the Fishman site this board supposedly includes a buffer and provides the facility to connect a magnetic pick-up and mix the two signals. The Aguilar magnetic pick-up is connected to its own volume pot and then into the Fishman Powerchip. Unfortunately there is no information about how this set-up is supposed to function. Is the Piezo volume a master volume which allows you to mix in some magnetic or should both controls work independently and the thing faulty? I've just contacted Fishman support and wait in anticipation for their answer.
19.
Sounds like some one has stitched you up with a faulty bass hope it gets sorted
I don't look at it as being stitched-up. It was a brand new bass back in December, although it was made a while before then, and is serial number #9. I've no idea how many they've sold of these but it could be that this hasn't been an issue before.
20.
Doesn't it need a buffer? Something like this?
Funny you bring that up Gareth, I was talking to John about exactly this item at the show today.
21. That was my initial thought. There is no mixing stage as such, it's the same as a 2 x vol Jazz where the pick-ups are across the pots and the sliders of the pots are joined and feed the pre-amp. It's very weird. Piezo vol at zero, soapbar at max, turn down the Soapbar vol and the sound goes down and off but the waveform goes up.
22. With that Bulgin mains connector and a pair of KT66 bottles I would say it was an early one. You could email Marshall and ask them to check from the serial number.
23.
Back of the net!
Sadly not. Explored a bit further with oscilloscope. Soapbar and volume control seem to work fine however I can hear that the control is only working over the last few degrees. Interesting as I wind the Soapbar volume control down the waveform increases in amplitude but the bass output drops off. It must be some kind of interaction between the Soapbar, the Fishman Piezo and the OBP3 pre-amp. How do you start to unravel this one?
