[/quote] Neutrik say on their web site that Silent jacks are not recommended for active instruments. This is because the ring connection in the jack is used to power the onboard pre-amp. As you insert the jack the pre-amp is powered and is charging its capacitors at the same time as the muting comes off resulting in noise through the amp.

It would appear that the term 1/4-inch (6.35mm) jack refers to the diameter of the hole in the socket. If you have a plug of the same size it is never going to fit so jack plugs have to have a diameter of less than 6.35mm. How much tolerance is down to individual manufacturers.

As a new owner of a Spector Shorty I've been following this thread with interest to see what else is about. Whilst browsing the web I came across Artist Guitars from Australia which are sold through Ebay in the UK. You might be thinking of the BFC which was a 1x15 and two 2 x10 in one cab. Effectively three cabs in one each of 4-ohms so it needed an amp with 3 power channels like the AH1000 to drive it. Ha Ha. Beaten to it by the Dood.

I have a Westfield Mini-Precision. Interesting beast. Although it is about 24-inch scale it uses regular size pick-up and bridge so the string spacing is the same as a full scale instrument. Currently strung with flats, it sounds really good. Westfield were a Scottish company based in East Kilbride. They went out of business in 2013 however instruments regularly appear on Ebay although I have yet to see another like mine.

Most cabs that have 3 speakers as well as some with 6 speakers are 5.3-ohms i.e 3 x 16-ohm speakers in parallel. I have a 4-ohm 2x12 and an 8-ohm 1x12 which if used together would be 2.67-ohms and this set-up can be used with an amp capable of running with a 2-ohm load. Also because all the speakers are the same impedance, the power would be distributed evenly between the three drivers.

A few days ago I took delivery of a new Spector Shorty. Doug Wimbush neck, Aguilar PJ pickups, OBP2 pre-amp. Not over keen on the colour, looks more like camo than black/gold but I wanted a PJ and this was the only one available at the pre-Brexit price. I suppose I can always get it refinished at a later date. Fantastic feel and tone and ideal for my small hands. Also very light.
