13.
Solder the 'Hot' wire to the middle slug on the Volume pot
Yes you should be able to see the original end of the jack wire where it has broken off the centre tag of the volume pot.
14. If you can wait until the Bash I'll bring my soldering iron with me.
15. Is anyone bringing a 5-string Sadowsky, NYC or Metro? I have a yearning to try one.
16. Cheapest way to do it is to prepare some paper labels and then anchor them to the cable with clear heat shrink. I have mine done 500 at a time.
17. Depends on quantity. There is usually an artwork set-up charge and then cost per unit, the more you have done the cheaper it is. What are you wanting to do?
18. Welcome Chris. Plenty of Bcers in the Surrey Delta.
19.
Sorry, but I disagree. Yes, the voltage and amps can vary between the input and the output but the point that they BOTH vary such that when you multiply the input volt/amps and the output volt/amps you'll find the power is much the same. I say much the same because no device is 100% efficient so power out will always be less than power in, with the 'lost' power heating things up. Think about your 130 amp welder with its 13A fused plug. Max input power is 230V x 13A = 2990W. This is the maximum amount of power available to the sharp end of the welder, so if you select a 130A arc then the maximum voltage across that arc will be 2990 / 130 = 23V (again, in practice some power is 'lost' inside the welder as heat because nothing is 100% efficient). This is generally why mains powered arc welders don't electrocute you - because the output voltage is quite low. Watts are watts, there are no 'reduced amperage' watts. If the amps are reduced, so are the watts, unless the voltage is increased to compensate. It's basic thermodynamics - you can't get more power (watts) out than you put in.
What he said. Power In (electrical energy) = Power Out (electrical energy + heat)
20. Assuming that the cable is of adequate rating, the lowest rated item in the lead is the IEC connector. Most IEC connectors are rated at 10A so a 10A fuse is perfect.
21. Yes that would achieve it or make yourself a very short XLR-F to XLR-M cable and not connect pin#1.
22. Earlier this year I sent 15 dead ones back to Neutrik and they were replaced. They've changed the construction of the latest ones and they are much more reliable. I'm happy to supply just the jacks if any member wants to DIY.
23. I would remove and reseat all the valves as a first step. If no change then it is probably one of the power valves that is dodgy. Ideally you need to get to look at it with an oscilloscope.
24.
I can't tell from the picture, but in any event there would be no primary connection for 110 versus 220. There would be dual sets of input wires to the transformer, allowing it to be wired like so:
It's definitely not wired like this Bill. The blue going into the connection block is Neutral and the thre,e brown/white, brown/red and brown, wires at the other end of the block are 220, 230 and 240 respectively. The black wire comes from the input fuse and is connected to the 240-volt terminal.
