2.
OBBM in Farnham seems to be your nearest or you can check the list for your self. http://basschat.co.u...elp-fix-a-bass/
Thanks for the plug John but I don't do set-ups, well only on my own basses. Always happy to help BCers with any soldering however.
  3. It should not be a problem as long as you position the holes correctly. If you are not in rush I can send you a copy of the Britsh Standard for rack fixing which has all the dimensions.
  4.
The right angle ones have tags for the earth. The straight ones didn't, and it did seem that it took a while to get the solder to take. But I'm getting the same problem with both straight and right angle. Yep, both were okay. Aha, I've just seen something on another forum about this. No, is the answer. I've just taken a look and I can see what you mean - there's a black sheath around the white insulator surrounding the signal cable. You're saying that's conductive?!
Yes it is. You need to trim that right back and your problem should be solved.
  5.
Conductive plastic?
It's also described by one cable manufacturer as "semiconductor", which it clearly isn't however it's conductive PVC with carbon particles. If it is not stripped back to clear the centre conductor and touches the jack tip wiring the cable will exhibit the sort of problems that the OP is having.
  6. OP, are you stripping back the black conductive plastic screen from the inner core?
  7. I can only think of one thing better than a CN212 and that is .... 2 x CN212. Good luck with the sale
  8.
Are you offering those Hicon jacks now Dave?
Yes can do with either Vandamme or Classic Tweed cable.
  9. Sorry but all this talk of 4-core GK cable is slightly irrelevant. Looking at his signature the OP has an LMIII and a Barfaced One 10. Neither of these are Bi-ampable so the only connections in use are 1+ and 1- regardless of whether the Speakon is 4-pole or 2-pole or the cable is 2-core or 4-core. Interestingly I had a case a few months back where someone with a Markbass amp was having a similar problem. Having sent him two brand new and tested 2-pole Speakon to Speakon cables there was still a problem. As far as I was concerned there was nothing wrong with any of the cables but he refused to accept there was anything wrong with the amp. Finally I sent him a cable with 4-pole Speakons which seemed to solve it. We never did get to the bottom of the problem I suspect that the Speakon sockets on some Markbass amps do suffer from wear or misalignment.
  10. I made a perspex one for my Sadowsky UV70. Works a treat and can be removed without leaving a mark. Next job is to make one for the PJ.
  11.
These are my local suppliers, brilliant company and my first point of call, but they only had a limited range in black, and they are all very short (2 metres). Thanks though.
Why not get some 2.5-sq.mm. rubber covered cable and make them longer?
  12.
Maybe we should have a directory for local BCers open to doing some small-scale works on basses? I would also be happy to do it, but Staffs is a good stretch from here too.
Good idea. I'm always happy to help out anyone who needs a bit of soldering done. Shame Staffordshire is so far away.

Just for a change I was able to buy something from Mark. Quick and straightforward transaction and prompt posting. Thank you.
  14.
Still available?
Currently sold subject to satisfactory viewing and test drive.
  15.
I picked up one of these together with a TKS 212 from Bass Gear just after Christmas. I had a chance to A/B the head with a Tonehammer 500 through both one of the super ATS 212's and the TKS. Maybe it's the slightly larger output of the Mesa, but it sounded far more "alive" and the Deep switch has to be heard to be believed I had a Mesa Prodigy Four:88 previously and it was one of the best sounding heads I've owned. This one comes very close indeed at a far lighter weight
Very neat looking rig Nick.
  16. I think the best was this: Epifani UL902 Epifani UL310 x 2 Stingray 5 Unfortunately I never got to gig it.
  17.
Nope. The current drawn is dictated by the item thats drawing the current. Think of your household ring main. It'll probably be on a 16A breaker but a 60w table lamp plugged into it will only draw about 4A, not the 16A available to it.
Analogy is correct. Example is wrong. Ring Main uses 30A breaker. 60-watt light bulb draws 0.25-Amp.
  18.
That's lovely. Does the ACG string anchor allow for the use of standard strings, or do they have to be double ball ends?
Double Ball End. Currently strung with Status strings.
  19. After much deliberation I’ve decided to put my ACG Headless Harlot 5-string up for sale as I gig very rarely now and have no need for a 5-string. Since I had it made 6 years ago it has had minimal use and has never been gigged so it’s as new. It has a wicked tone, a great action and very easy and comfortable to play thanks to the asymmetric neck shape. This is a superb example of Alan’s work. 34-inch scale Swamp Ash body core Asian Ebony top/veneer. Through 5 piece flame maple/wenge neck Acrylic Flame Sycamore neck – no dots Dual Action trussrod Carbon neck rods Blue LED via fiber-optic side dots Black hardware Hipshot Ultralite Tuners. Hipshot Type A bridge - 18mm spacing ACG String anchor RFB humbucker bridge pick-up with coil switching RFB Single coil neck pick-up. John East Filter Pre-amp. Schaller Straplocks. Status strings Fusion Gigbag Would possibly consider trade for US or Japanese Precision with 'B' neck plus cash my way. As already stated I am not looking for a 5 or a 6-string bass. All trade offers by PM please, not in this thread.
  20.
When you come to buy leads: Always buy instrument-quality cables (they should be labelled on the cable insulation).
....... but only to connect your bass to your amp. Use a proper Speaker lead to connect your amplifier to a speaker cabinet or to loop speaker cabinets.
  21.
Hello funsters. Can you help me identify the tip and ring bits of this headphone jack? My guess is that the thin central gold bit that juts out is the tip (left) and the thicker bit behind it, half surrounded by black plastic, is the ring (right). The earth is the long metal bit with two prongs at the end closest to the camera. Am I right? Thanks.
You are correct.
