1. Gareth if you get a suitable power supply I'll solder a plug on for you to the correct polarity.
2.
I still love this one Dave
Thanks Nick but it's not for sale.
3. This WPM-1 is almost brand new and has only been used in anger a couple of times. Full details are in this Sound On Sound Review and full spec £100 collected or can ship at carriage cost.
4.
Hi guys, bit of advice needed... I'm wanting to get another wizzy 10" to pair with my existing one and an MB200. As they are 4ohms can I get a cable or something so the amp would see the two cabs in series and therefore an 8 ohm load?
Assuming that it's all Speakon I have such a cable that I made use with my long departed Schroeder cabs.
5. Everyone I know plays it in E. I use a detuner to drop the E string down to D for the low bass riff.
6.
Looks like a trip to the tech then
Probably a wise decision as from your photo I would say that a Speakon socket is larger and will not fit the current recessed mounting plate.
7. You haven't said what make/type the cab is. The difficult part will be mechanical. The rewiring should be very simple. If the jacks are the flange type held in place by two fixing nuts and bolts in the diagonal corners the replacing these with similar Speakon sockets should be straightforward. If the jacks are the single hole fixing type then it's a different proposition as you'll have to drill out the mounting plate for the Speakon connector body and its fixing screws. Alternatively it might be possible to completely replace the mounting plate, connectors and all.
8.
Ah, cool. What would be the potential hazards of running a 4 pole Speakon between a 2 pole amp socket and a 4 pole cab socket? Could it damage the amp?
What do you mean by running a 4-pole Speakon? 4-pole Speakon plugs will not fit the amp. You need to change the plug at the amp end to a 2-pole. Also cable iteslf only needs to have 2 conductors.
9. 4-pole Speakons were designed mainly for bi-amp PA cabs. Bass amps produce, in the main, full bandwidth signals and only need 2 terminals. For many years there were only 4-pole panel mounting sockets so these were all that manufacturers could use, but they only ever used 2 of the terminals.
10.
I suspect that a 4 pin Speakon plug won't go into a 2 pin socket, but a 2 pin plug fits a 4 pin socket. Or something like that...... RK
That's correct. 2-pole Speakon plugs are compatible with 4-pole Speakon sockets. 4-pole Speakon plugs are NOT compatible with 2-pole Speakon sockets. Your options are: Change one end of your 4-pole Speakon cable to 2-pole - a straightforward task. Buy a new 2-pole Speakon to 2-pole Speakon cable.
11.
But you know it was worth it Dave.
Fortunately it wasn't quite that much.
12. Excellent day. Nice to see so many familiar faces and meet some new ones Thanks to Nik and Colin for arranging.
13.
Afternoon all, Need a few suggestions from you lot. What I'm after is a personal monitor system. I don't want wireless, all I'm after is a small bodypack. So straight out of my bass, into said bodypack, then one output into headphones and the other going off to my amp. I've already got a set of Shure 315 and some moulded ear pieces fitted to them, I'm just missing the middle bit. After looking online, I really like the Samson S Monitor, but it has to be mains supplied and I'll need a battery powered system. Cheers, James
Funnily enough I've been trying to achieve this for some time and it's finally come together this week ready to get some feedback at the Bash tomorrow. Small belt-mounted box with two locking jack sockets, headphone outlet and a volume control, all driven from a PP3. The input/splitter stage uses FETs so is very high-impedance and shouldn't degrade the signal at all. Further development could be to add an active/passive switch, some tone controls for the headphone amp and perhaps an Aux input so it could be used in conjunction with a wireless receiver for monitoring. This is purely for my own specific use and I have no intention of going into production.
14. Initally I had an GK Fusion but it didn't do it for me. Then I got a TH500 and all came good. Also use a Mesa Prodigy. which also works well.
15. Nik, I was planning on bringing my Mesa Boogie Prodigy 4:88
16. Hipshot BT1 De-Tuner for MM Stingray. Recently purchased on this very Forum but not fitted. £49 posted
17. Rare Mesa Boogie V1 Bottle Rocket complete with UK power supply. Excellent valve overdrive/distortion. Beautiful valve tone. Excellent for bass. - 2x12AX7 - 1 Channel of Pure Vacuum Tube Overdrive/Distortion from Input to Output - Gain, Master, Bass and Treble Control - True Bypass Switch Here's how Mesa describe it "Whether it's subtle, touch-sensitive overdrive, a gob of gooey gain or red-hot clean signal to slam your favorite amp's input stage...V-1 gives your sound a serious dosing of Tone. The simple four control layout lets you crank, shape and meter the exact amount of fat, liquid gain produced by the 4 triodes doing the dirty work, snug in their stage-proof bunker, and safe from a stray-foot sortie. And to insure the host amp's purity when you're not lighting things up with the V-1, we use a relay to hard-bypass your guitar right through two jacks. This means no sacrifice of your original tone...unlike many overdrive devices that compromise tone even when they're switched off." Pix tomorrow.
