From Ashdown's web site: Speaker Outputs Speakon/Jack
... but the manual just talks of Speakons.
-
The manual is very confusing on this point. Have you tried pushing a jack into the centre of the Speakon to see if it fits? - with the amp turned off of course.
-
Is this what you want? 2-pole Speakon to right-angle Speakon.
Thanks again. So I hope I'm right to say that if I buy a cable with 4-pole connectors it will work on my amp/cab whether it's set up for 2-pole or 4-pole! I think this is what I've been trying to ask all along
....but why buy a cable with 4-pole connectors that might or might not fit, or could be a bit tight, when you can get a 2-pole version?

Damaged speaker output on Fender Super champ X2 head

If you wanted to bring it over to Farnham I'd happily have a look for you. -
I'm a complete novice when it comes to this so please bare with me - I read a few forums about this and I saw some saying a 4-pole speakon connector won't fit into a 2-pole socket? I'm probably getting the wrong end of the stick but I thought any speakon connector would fit into any speakon socket?
Well I've just been to my workroom and plugged a 4-pole Speakon into a pcb mount combo socket and 1+ and 1- mate perfectly as checked by a multimeter. (Can supply photos for the non-believers) 2-pole and 4-pole Speakons are compatible however there are larger Speakons that aren't.
-
4-pole plugs will fit the combo sockets. but only connect to 1+/1-. I can now supply cables with right-angle 2-pole Speakon plugs.

Schroeder 1210L cabinet, where does one get these in the UK?
obbm replied to mcnach's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've seen that 1212, but it's a bit larger than what I was aiming for. Pity, for the price is good too!
1210L and 1212L are the same size. -
M2000 is not a valve amp. It has a valve pre-amp and MOSFET (solid state) power stage. It'll be fine with 8-ohms though you'll get a reduced maximum power output. It most situations I doubt that you'll notice the difference from a similar 4-ohm cab.

Valve amp speaker cables causing problems?
obbm replied to SkinnyMike's topic in Repairs and Technical
By putting at the end of the line it will only draw the tiny amount of current that it needs. You signature says you are a Sound Engineer so think of it as putting a high impedance monitor or a PPM meter across a line. It takes a sniff of what is there, but doesn't interrupt or load the signal path. By putting the Radial between the amp and the speaker you are forcing the whole current through the box. The manual clearly says don't do it. -
You know, I read stuff like this and wonder why we are getting 'whats wrong with Basschat threads. Excellent stuff. My advice would be to check the spindley-doofer running off the foo-foo valve
-
Valve amp speaker cables causing problems?
obbm replied to SkinnyMike's topic in Repairs and Technical
Watts = Volts x Amps(Current) so just saying good for up to 100-volts is meaningless without also quoting watts or amps. It's excessive current that will burn up a circuit board tracks. Because your EMO has separate speaker connections it's probably wired with adequate size cable and not through the pcb. The Radial specifically says NOT to put it between amp and speaker probably because it is all on a pcb. -
Valve amp speaker cables causing problems?
obbm replied to SkinnyMike's topic in Repairs and Technical
This is true if the signal is going no further than the JDI. However, there should NOT be a speaker box plugged into the JDI; it won't like such power going through it. (at least, not according to the manufacturer...). It's fine (in fact, bloody excellent...) as a passive DI, but not designed for the passing through of speaker-level current.
Agree entirely. I would presume that the connectors are all pcb (circuit board) mounted and that the copper tracks between the jacks will just burn if you try to put any appreciable current through them. Unless the OP is very lucky the damage may already have been done. -

According to the User Manual you must not put the box between an amp and a speaker cab. Connect your amp as usual, then connect a ¼” to ¼” cable from the second (parallel) speaker cabinet jack to the JDI. Because of the high impedance and low draw from the JDI, the amp will only see the speaker cabinet so you do not have to change the amplifier’s impedance setting. Try hanging on the speaker out socket of the 4x10. -
Thanks Mark and a Merry Xmas to all my BC friends and customers.

I used an NOS Philips 5751 in both my F1X and a BMAX-T. I got it from Colomor Valves in Billinghurst in Sussex, UK. They sell directly but also on Ebay.
The pic I put up is a Nuetric. The don't make them any more. However I have quite a few of them. Mono and TRS
The picture is a Neutrik NP3RCS which was superceded several years ago by the NP3RX. The current mono version is the NP2RX. However the OP is not wanting a plug, he is asking for a right-angle socket. Right-angle XLRs come in various forms both male and female however I have never ever seen a right-angle cable-mounted jack socket. OP, why do you need one? To what are you connecting?

Earlier this year I discovered that one of our number plays for an ELO tribute band, "ELO Experience". Went to see them locally and it was absolutely top notch. If you like ELO then they are well worth going to see when they are in your area. Complete with two cellos and sounded just like the real thing. Brought back a lot of memories of songs I'd forgotten I'd forgotten.
Right, yes, as I suspected. Thanks. 1. Need for what? I don't follow. 2. Blimey. How can they be told apart?
1. Not you, the OP. 2. Take the jack apart and have a look. A true stereo cable should be two separately screened co-axes. The balanced is a single screened pair or screened quad connected as pairs.
-
Stupid question: just because something takes, or sends out on, an XLR cable, doesn't mean that it's mic level, does it. Or does it?
XLRs are used for many different signal levels. What you need is balanced cable, not a stereo. TRS jacks are used for balanced mono and unbalanced stereo, however the cable type is different for each.
