1. Welcome. There are quite a few Surrey BCers. Which side of the county are you?
 2. very simply any small mixer would do what you want as long as it has at least a single mic/line input and a stereo input for CD/iPod/PC. I use a small Soundcraft Notepad which has 4 mic/line and 4 stereo inputs and is much more flexible. I plug my bass straight into the mixer. Because the line-out from the Markbass is a DI out I would assume that it comes before the main volume control in which case you can just turn that down and keep the speaker connected. What the manual doesn't show is whether the DI is pre or post EQ. If the line-out is after the main volume control then you will need to run the amp with the speakers disconnected.
 3.
Nice. UK or Chinese?
Chinese.
 4. If anything goes wrong Don then I have one you can borrow.
 5. Ashdown Little Bastard all-valve amp. Still in its original box. Not a lot more one can say about this. A great little amp.
 6.
Don't fancy a Spector NS-2J-RA, do you? Jon puts an incredible amount of work into his basses, and I'm sure this is as lovely a player as it is a looker.
Indeed it is. As for the Spector, thanks but no thanks.
 7. Thanks. obviously "a must to avoid"
 8. if the 3-bolt neck wasn't introduced on the Jazz until 1974? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item56479d1454
 9.
How do Orange achieve this? The price and weight probaly rules out a transformer so maybe an inductive load (I'm guessing that a purely resistive load would generate too much heat)? Any other ways of doing it?
From what I can remember from the block diagram the switch is near the front end of the power amp in a limiter stage so it could possibly be that the amp is actually designed to give full output into 8-ohms and they limit down for 4-ohms. I'll see if I can find my diagram.
 10.
Sounds like a returned item or display? I'm sure Thomann will jsut ship another
Hope so. Just realised that it wasn't in a plastic bag either.
 11.
Good work Dave, you won't be disappointed methinks
Mines just arrived but a bit of the polystyrene packing is missing/broken and there is no user manual. Did you get one with yours. Also a lot of dust on the knobs which indicates that it's been sitting somewhere out of its box for a while. Not plugged it in yet. Awaiting a response from Thomann.
 12.
Oh bugger.
It was the prototype and he said it was a year away.
 13.
Good work Dave, you won't be disappointed methinks
That's what i'm hoping. I'll use it with two SL112s in a band I've just joined.
 14. I've been so pleased with my MB200 that I've just invested in a Fusion 500. Now the waiting begins.
 15. Sold a Rolls PM351 Personal Monitor to Pete. Perfect transaction as always, cheers Pete
 16. Sorry to say it's not a simple rewire. The MM pick-up and pre-amp were designed as an integral assembly. The MM pre-amp has a differential input stage to allow it to sum the signal and cancel any noise. It also has a switched resistor ladder to equalise the gain for each configuration, not easy to replicate. I did what you are attempting to do about 8 years ago. Firstly you have to rewire the pickup to have six wires so that each coil can be accessed independently. This was how I did the switching with a 4-pole 3-way switch. Best of luck.
 17.
That's really neat, Dave. Where did you find the rack-ears for the GK amp? And how does that design work?
1U and 2U rack ears are readily available from a number of sources. For the GK it was a case of drilling fixing holes in the rack ears to line-up with the tapped holes in the GK, finding some spacers of the right internal diameter and cutting them to length, then getting the right size screws of the right length and finally making it all fit. Similar process for the Boss and the dbx. You ask how does it work? I plug it into the speakers, connect the National Grid interface, plug in the bass and it makes a noise.
 18. I pcked up a Boss TU-50 from here and mounted it with a dbx compressor and a GK MB200 is a half-rack case I giot from Ebay. One day I'm going transplant it into a 1/2 rack size aluminium flightcase.
 19.
I really wasn't sure what it would be worth, having no idea of how much it cost to be built, etc. I picked up my Shuker Jazz here 2nd hand for just over £600, so if you was looking for somewhere within say another £250 on top of that, I could have tried to sort something out. I don't know if it's just me, but I'm getting a slightly hostile vibe from your reply, so I'm sorry if I offended you with my original question or response, or if I'm completely off the mark then I apologise for getting the wrong end of the stick. Cheers
No offence intended James. I dislike open public bartering but it's my fault for not PMing you with a figure. Only OHM know what it cost and on top of that there was £230 for the Nordstrands. I think you're getting close to what would be acceptable if you wanted to buy it. If you are interested in haggling then please PM me.
 20.
It's sunburst/rosewood Dave. The P Bass is a keeper I'm afraid
Nice looking Jazz but there's seems to be a bit of a difference in values.
 21.
Sigh, one of my big regrets was letting this bass go.... Don't suppose a new Series 2009 Fender US Jazz would be of interest Dave?
Perhaps. What colour is it? Or you could just let me have the Precision back.
 22.
Ok mate cheers. Haven't got anything close to that I'd be willing to trade, and haven't got the cash to make up for it either. And for that reason, I'm out!
Fair enough but what did you think it might be worth? You must have had some idea when you asked the question. It obviously is worth more than £100 and probably more than £600. It might even be worth the £1100 I suggested. Actually I don't know because there is no history of used Shuker values. With major brands there is a history and you can at least make track the values and depreciation. Supply and demand will eventually decide it's value. Also it all depends on what's put up on offer. I might take a pair of cheaper basses, a really nice original MM Sterling would be good. Maybe a 100-watt Hiwatt head. I don't need it, maybe someone else does so it's up for grabs.
 23.
Hello Dave, what kind of value are you placing on it for trades?
It depends on what's on offer but £1100 is a good starting point. If theres something that really takes my fancy then it could come down a bit.
 24. After years of experimentation I've come to the conclusion that I have 4-string jazz neck sized hands and as the only covers that I play which require a Low D can be achieved with a Hipshot, I no longer have need for this superb 5-stringer. It was originally specified and commissioned by Old Horse Murphy. The full details are of the build are in this thread. Last year I fitted a set of Nordstrands and new CTS pots which has bought it alive. It's in tip-top condition and has been kept in it's gig bag, apart from a couple of hours playing, since I acquired it, consequently there are no additional marks or blemishes over and above those mentioned in OHM's original description. Rather than try and sell it outright I am more interested in trading it with cash either way depending on what you have on offer. Specifically I'm interested an older Fender Jazz or a Fender PJ with a Jazz neck. Try me.
