1. Sorry to say it's not a simple rewire. The MM pick-up and pre-amp were designed as an integral assembly. The MM pre-amp has a differential input stage to allow it to sum the signal and cancel any noise. It also has a switched resistor ladder to equalise the gain for each configuration, not easy to replicate. I did what you are attempting to do about 8 years ago. Firstly you have to rewire the pickup to have six wires so that each coil can be accessed independently. This was how I did the switching with a 4-pole 3-way switch. Best of luck.
2.
That's really neat, Dave. Where did you find the rack-ears for the GK amp? And how does that design work?
1U and 2U rack ears are readily available from a number of sources. For the GK it was a case of drilling fixing holes in the rack ears to line-up with the tapped holes in the GK, finding some spacers of the right internal diameter and cutting them to length, then getting the right size screws of the right length and finally making it all fit. Similar process for the Boss and the dbx. You ask how does it work? I plug it into the speakers, connect the National Grid interface, plug in the bass and it makes a noise.
3. I pcked up a Boss TU-50 from here and mounted it with a dbx compressor and a GK MB200 is a half-rack case I giot from Ebay. One day I'm going transplant it into a 1/2 rack size aluminium flightcase.
4.
I really wasn't sure what it would be worth, having no idea of how much it cost to be built, etc. I picked up my Shuker Jazz here 2nd hand for just over £600, so if you was looking for somewhere within say another £250 on top of that, I could have tried to sort something out. I don't know if it's just me, but I'm getting a slightly hostile vibe from your reply, so I'm sorry if I offended you with my original question or response, or if I'm completely off the mark then I apologise for getting the wrong end of the stick. Cheers
No offence intended James. I dislike open public bartering but it's my fault for not PMing you with a figure. Only OHM know what it cost and on top of that there was £230 for the Nordstrands. I think you're getting close to what would be acceptable if you wanted to buy it. If you are interested in haggling then please PM me.
5.
It's sunburst/rosewood Dave. The P Bass is a keeper I'm afraid
Nice looking Jazz but there's seems to be a bit of a difference in values.
6.
Sigh, one of my big regrets was letting this bass go.... Don't suppose a new Series 2009 Fender US Jazz would be of interest Dave?
Perhaps. What colour is it? Or you could just let me have the Precision back.
7.
Ok mate cheers. Haven't got anything close to that I'd be willing to trade, and haven't got the cash to make up for it either. And for that reason, I'm out!
Fair enough but what did you think it might be worth? You must have had some idea when you asked the question. It obviously is worth more than £100 and probably more than £600. It might even be worth the £1100 I suggested. Actually I don't know because there is no history of used Shuker values. With major brands there is a history and you can at least make track the values and depreciation. Supply and demand will eventually decide it's value. Also it all depends on what's put up on offer. I might take a pair of cheaper basses, a really nice original MM Sterling would be good. Maybe a 100-watt Hiwatt head. I don't need it, maybe someone else does so it's up for grabs.
8.
Hello Dave, what kind of value are you placing on it for trades?
It depends on what's on offer but £1100 is a good starting point. If theres something that really takes my fancy then it could come down a bit.
9. After years of experimentation I've come to the conclusion that I have 4-string jazz neck sized hands and as the only covers that I play which require a Low D can be achieved with a Hipshot, I no longer have need for this superb 5-stringer. It was originally specified and commissioned by Old Horse Murphy. The full details are of the build are in this thread. Last year I fitted a set of Nordstrands and new CTS pots which has bought it alive. It's in tip-top condition and has been kept in it's gig bag, apart from a couple of hours playing, since I acquired it, consequently there are no additional marks or blemishes over and above those mentioned in OHM's original description. Rather than try and sell it outright I am more interested in trading it with cash either way depending on what you have on offer. Specifically I'm interested an older Fender Jazz or a Fender PJ with a Jazz neck. Try me.
10. Could I tempt you to a Shuker PJ5?

13. Make a cable to run the two cabs in series to make 16-ohms, and Robert is your father's brother.
14. Partial result. £689 if bought in the shop, however still too much.
15. Interesting that they also have it on their web site and in the store at the same price. By my reckoning the Ebay Sellers fee and Paypal fees come to about £65. I wonder what they would want for collect and pay cash. Maybe I'll ask.
16. for a used 90s Japanese Fretless Jazz? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item484161a1b4 I saw a similar one go recently for £400.
17. Greg bought the Godin A5 Fretless from me. He travelled down from London by train and we met at Guildford Station to conduct the deal at the time agreed and without a hitch.
18. Happy New Year to all on Basschat.
19. Still available.
20. Wow that stirred up a bit of interest. I was in the process of rewiring it a few years ago. The power amp side is all done but not tested. The transformers and choke are in excellent condition and it has all new caps. I'll dig it out of the garage tomorrow.
21.
If OBBM is still reading this thread, I for one would like to know what he tried, and whether it worked or not.
Pete, I ended up with two amps neither of which I have had a chance to try seriously yet due to lack of time. The first was an Ashdown LB30, the other is a Hayden MoFo 55, 55-watts from a pair of 6550. When I get an opportunity I'm going to try them with the Berg AE212 however the Berg is 4-ohms and the MoFo only has taps for 8 and 16-ohms. I tried it with a single 1 x12 and it was promising. My original idea was to modify the tone stack of the MoFo55 so it was more suited to bass however I'm no longer convinced that it would be a good idea, also the output transformer look a bit small compared to some of my other valve chassis. I've got the MoFo up for sale in my Ebay store so if it sells the it will go. I shall probably sell the LB as well, plus the parts of the Sound City 200 and see if I can raise some cash for a Hiwatt.
22.
Saw it,,,what I want to know is...how come it is acceptable for the camera man to have his own copies stashed at home... and he says he has others..!! Homework...???
I've known John Henshall, the cameraman concerned, for many many years. While he was at the BBC he started developing optical effects - special lenses - of which the Fish Eye used in this clip was one of his first. He eventually left the BBC and started his own company. He obtained a copy of the tape as the effect was his creation and no doubt he did not charge the BBC of the use of the lense so a copy of that sequence was fair recompense. Videotape for 2-inch bradcast VTRs was very expensive and someone in BBC management decided that they could save money by wiping and re-using tapes. Thousands of hours of unique television got destroyed in this process. It will be interesting to see what else he has hidden away. One of our local jammers spends some of his spare time researching and tracking down lost footage from that era. This is one of his finds, so thanks Ray.
23.
what are you after?
Specifically the circuit of my AD200B Mk 3 but I feel that putting schematics into the book would add so much more value and would help justify that outrageous price.
24. Nope still too much. Now if it had all the schematics as well then that would be different matter.
25. Steve Ryder has been making custom basses for years. Seeing as this show was in 2008 I doubt that it's a Sue Ryder bass he's playing, probably an upmarket custom jobby.
