1. Barry dropped by as arranged and bought my Epifani UL310 Speaker cab. I hope your back appreciates it and that the band like the new clean sound. What a very nice chap. Deal with confidence.
  2.
Nice one! Loving my MB200, can't wait to gig it
I'll be interested to hear the results.
  3. I like my Sony MDR-XB700 headphones. Amazing bass response.
  4.
It does.........apart from the cost. 500 notes. Ouch!
You could buy one of the several MB F1s on sale here for less than that and get a pre-amp into the bargain.
  5.
There's a panel with lots of electronc-y stuff and its attached by wires to something very similar to this thing
If it's going back to the States then they may not need it, but check with them. If you have to disconnect it then take lots of photos, make notes and a diagram so you know how to put it back together.
  6.
I have to send back my faulty Acoustic Image Contra to the US for repair. This comprises a head bolted on to a speaker. I was told "you don't have to remove the whole chassis, just take the top off (with the preamp attached) and then remove the rear panel (with the power amp attached) and send us those two units." So I've unscrewed everything and the front panel is self explanatory. When the say rear panel with power amp attached, do they mean the big circular thingummy that comprises densely coiled wires in a plastic type covering? Thanks in advance from an electronics numpty
Sounds to me like its the mains transformer. A picture would help.
  7.
Hi all, I've somehow managed to break the mains plug for an old Carlsbro TC60 amp, and I'm struggling to find a replacement I could replace the whole thing with a modern IEC connector, but I'd rather keep it original if possible and not have to faff around drilling the chassis etc. So, can anybody ID the connector in the pic below ? If I knew what it was called I might have a something to search for. The keyed part of the moulding is 22mm diameter, the holes that receive the pins in the chassis end are 10mm between centres, and the whole thing's 15mm long. If possible, I'd prefer one with the cable entry inline, rather than right angled like the one in the picture. cheers,
That's a British-made Bulgin connector as used on many amps for many years. They do not comply with current safety standards as the inside of the chassis-mounted version has exposed terminals. You can still find them on Ebay however if you plan to use the amp regularly then you would be advised to change it to an IEC or fit a captive mains lead.
  8. I'd like to suggest the Epifani UL-212. I use one with an Orange AD200B and it sounds wicked. Just about to add a second.
  9.
Thanks Chris, will see what happens. As an alternative has anyone tried those ultra-cheapo (£20-30) home-made looking pickups on eBay by J-tone - if these are OK it might be useful to have one as a backup in the gig bag just in case ....
I have one of those in my DB. You can borrow that if you want.
  10. I first found bassworld in 2002. Member #35. From then on it was financially downhill as basses and amps came and went. I think I've almost found stability, well at least until next week.
  11. Welcome to BC and back to the world of bass. Being here will probably induce you to compile an even longer list of previously owned equipment. I lived in Newquay and Polkerris before moving up-country. Still visit St A regularly to see friends and relations.
  12. Having said no trades I could be interested in a trade involving an Aguillar or a Berg 1x12.
  13. Not gigging so just not using it these days. Series 1 Epifani UL-310 in excellent condition. includes factory cover £500 collected or meet/deliver within M25 zone or 50 miles from Farnham, Surrey. Cash, bank transfer or Paypal gift accepted. No trades please as I have GAS for something new.
  14. Time to throw my hat into the ring. 1980, Root Beer. Allegedly made for Tom Hamilton, at least according to the previous owner, but I have no proof.
  15.
Is not the master volume knob an "Amp Attenuator" in this context?
Precisely.
  16. 500-watt max amp into a 400-watt cab? I think you are worrying needlessly. You'll hear any problems before any damage is done.
  17.
Not quite sure why you would want to do that... but... if I think what I think you are thinking, you want to change impedence of your cabs as seen by the amp? Then I guess something like Ted Weber's Z matcher would get you there? Although Ted's stuff is generally designed for valve amps so I don't know if you want to be doing this sort of thing with tranny amps. https://taweber.powweb.com/store/zmatch.htm I think what you want to do is as follows - [codebox] Z Match (head setting @ 8 ohm / cab setting at 4 ohm) -- 4 ohm speaker Output (4 ohms) --< Z Match (head setting @ 8 ohm / cab setting at 4 ohm) -- 4 ohm speaker [/codebox] Probably easier and wiser to buy 8 ohm cabs to be honest.
Without knowing a bit more detail (requested) I supect that he wants to be louder, in which case the amp will be running at a high output and would probably melt one of those things as they have quite a low power rating.
  18. OP, please explain in more detail why you feel the need to do this. Also what is the max output power of the amp? ThomBassmonkey - "You'd effectively be lowering the power that goes to your amp." - power comes from the amp to the speakers.

    Berg AE212
That wasn't because the ports are at the back!
It was a long time ago and it seemed like that was the problem at the time. So rear ports are fine out in the open then with nothing behind them?

    Berg AE212

All this talk of AE212s got me quite gassed up for one. I really like 2x12s. Read all the comments on TB, looked at what I could move on to pay for one and then it dawned on me that the AE212 has the ports at the back. One of the reasons I got rid of my original Ashdown mini 4x8s was because they had the ports at the back and were totally useless outdoors. I think I need to try one before I get excited again. Someone please get one and bring it to the next SE Bash.
  21. I've used Stainless DR Low Riders (45-130) for several years. Nice high tension, no problems.
