2.
I hope you like it after waiting that long.
So do I.
 3. Finally after 17-months of waiting I should take delivery of my new ACG tomorrow. Diary is clear and I shall be in all day waiting for the door bell to ring. Hope it doesn't snow again.
 4. I'm going to throw Dave Swift's name into this discussion. Many many years with Jools, many many Later shows and many different guests to back. Always something new.
 5.
Hello, I'm thinking of buying a 4x10 cab for use on loud function gigs, and a few in my price range have popped up, but they're all 8 ohm impedance. Is there a way of rewiring the cab to make it 4 ohms? Thanks, James
An 8-ohm cabinet with 4 identical speakers will either have 4 x 8-ohm speakers wired in series/parallel or 4 x 32-ohm speakers all wired in parallel. Without changing all the speakers for 16-ohm or 4-ohm or disconnecting 2 speakers there is no way you can rewire an 8-ohm cabinet to be 4-ohms. It's against the laws of physics.
 6.
Hi there, can I tap into your experience here. I recently did a corporate gig in a big marquee and plugged in my bass rack system and go loads of high frequency sizzle through the rig even before connecting my lead and bass to it. Now there were loads of christmas lighting in the venue, the dj had motorised lighting systems, fans and chemical fog machines etc and the back of the stage area was covered in little led starlights which flash on and off. My presumption was that the interference was coming from this array of electrical stuff plugged into the same supply to the marquee. Is there anything you could recommend for eliminating this kind of noise from my system in situations like this? Thanks Jazzyvee
Yup. Mains borne interference. That is why TV and Film studios have completely separate power supplies from the National Grid for technical, domestic and lighting. They also have separate earths. You don't want to see vacuum cleaner moter intereference on-air. This is not to say that there can't still be problems. When London Weekend Television's new studio centre (now the London Studios) was installed they had terrible hum problems. This was because of an earth potential difference between them on the South Bank and the Post Office Tower. The hum was temporarily reduced by earthing the whole of the technical equipment through steel plates dropped into the River Thames until some new equipment could be purchased. In your gig siuation where everyone is running from the same supply you are really on a hide into nowhere. What you need is a separate clean supply but as that is highly unlikely the best hope is use some filtering to remove all the cr@p before it gets to your amp or eliminate the DJ.
 7. Just got home from Bisley Pavillion where our Jug band, The Jug Hounds, played the interval for the SAS Band. Who are the SAS Band I hear you say, well SAS stands for Spikes All Stars, Spike being Spike Edney who has been Queen's keyboard player since the mid 80s. He seems to be able to produce some amazing line-ups which tonight included Grahame Gouldman singing "For Your Love" and "Rubber Bullets". Madeleine Bell was supposed to be singing but must have got stuck getting over from Spain because she didn't show. They are there again tomorrow so perhaps she'll make it for that one. Steve Stroud (ex Cliff Richard, The Hollies, Eric Burdon, etc) was on bass. Interestingly he was playing a Stingray 5 with a Status neck, almost the same as my one. I turned up on time for sound check with my PJB Cub and was told to plug into his stack (Harke LH1000, SWR Henry) as it was already DI'd into the huge PA system. We had a good reception for our short set and even got the audience to be the brass section for "Ring Of Fire". Interesting evening and some good comments.
 8.
obbm- whats it like? the board thingy?
Like this. Not used it in anger but it's great for feeling the lows and I should imagine excellent for synching with the Kick drum.
 9.
Bass players using In-Ear systems on stage suffer from lacking punch and sub frequencies which prevent them from controlling their playing. How do I sound out there? Am I always tight with the drummer? I can’t hear myself! Most of you might be familiar with this …The Pleasure Board is the ideal subwoofer floor for stages, studio, rehearsal room or even bedroom. Eight LFA (low frequency ass kick) transducers moving more than 10 lbs of mass pump the bass into your body. A great experience many professional bass players are not willing to do without any longer. Feeling your instrument and what you play has never been as intense before. The additional phones out and the vibration-proof suspension of the base plate let you rehearse at home late at night without bothering your neighbours. The Pleasure Board can be driven by the specially developed Pleasure Pump. This setup gives you a system that works on its own and fits every occasion. You can very well power the Pleasure Board by a regular bass amp, either as a stand-alone subwoofer or as an addition to your existing cabinet. Power: 600 w (8 ohms) Inputs: one 1/4” input jack Outputs: one 1/4" stereo jack phone out Dimensions (W x D x H): 80 x 80 x 10 cm, 31,5" x 31,5" x 4" Weight: 19 kg / 42 lbs
Sensory bass. Bought for a defunct project and only used a couple of times, once at home and then at the SE Bash last weekend. Will work with any head/power amp. £250 plus carriage or collect or meet.
 10. Would you be interested in trading it?
 11. You need a Pleasure Board to go with it. It gives you bass through your feet. I know someone who has one for sale.

 14.
...what else have you got lurking in that garage Dave...? The Orange head, this DBX etc, etc..Seems to me like it's a bit of an Aladdin's Cave!
A bit of this and that. It's surprising what you collect over the years. I generally tend to hang on to things because you just never know.
 15. Interestingly the latest BGM that came throught the letterbox this morning has a feature and review on compressors. Also I retrieved my dbx163a from the garage. It's only got one knob and a slider so Isuppose that means it will have to go.
 16. Now superfluous to my needs this PJB D200 is complete with original box, padded bag and power cord. With a dedicated headphone output it makes a really good headphone amp. Perfect for touring and for smaller venues. * Full power from 4 to 16 ohms * 96dB signal to noise ratio * 5 band EQ * Passive / active input * Input level control with clip indicator * Optical limiter * Line out * Headphone out * Balanced DI out with ground lift * FX send and return * Detachable IEC power cable * International power supply * Weight 2.5 Lbs/1.2Kg * Dimensions 9.5 W x 1.75 H x 8.25 D inches * Protective padded gig bag included
£220 collected or plus £10 posted.
So, every penny raised - £535 - goes to charity! - I'm very pleased!, and well done to all who chipped in and contributed to an enjoyable day in numerous ways! Colin
Superb achievement. Well done everybody.
 18. A good afternoon indeed. Nice to put some faces to names. Thanks Nick, Hamster and all those who helped organise and run sessions. I went with no intention of buying anything and came away with an Aria EUB. Ah such is life. Thanks Clarky.
 19.
Bit late - any chance of a 1m speakon - speakon, mine got nicked at a gig
No problem Colin. I will have a few spare speaker cables with me. Should be there just after lunch.
 20. I don't see an Orange AD200B on the list. Should I bring mine?
 21.
Haha, I wish I could have fixed that! Was his 4x12 not confirmed to be this tho?
I thought the giveaway was in the very original post. How could he have known this without having the bcak off?
I've got 1 Marshall JCM 800 Bass Series 4x12 fitted with 4 Celestion G12-65 15 ohm inpedance speakers
22.
Hey! We're talking about a trace head! I'm sure there won't be any lack of power to the cabs coming from it! Trace gear puts out 4 ohm and not 2x8ohm. It's true that with 2 cabs with different ohmage the output isn't going to be the same for both, the 8 ohm cab will be a tad louder - can't do the math to tell how much louder, maybe someone can help on this?
Amplifiers don't put out ohms. They put out Watts into a load which is specified in Ohms. An amplifier has a minimum load into which it will deliver its maximum specified power. Trace amps, and the majority of other makes of amp, have a minimum load of 4-ohms which can be made up of any number of cabs as long as the total impedance does not go lower than 4-ohms. A Trace amp can have 2 x 8-ohm loads which happens to be 4-ohms. In many cases where there are two speaker output sockets they are labelled 8-ohms each so that dumbos don't stick 2x 4-ohm cabs onto it and see magic smoke.
 23.
You could rewire the 4x12 to run at 8 ohms to get the same going to both, but the volume difference wouldn't be worth the hassle.
I'd be really interested to see how you would do that with 4 x15-ohm speakers. You could have solved an age-old problem.
 24.
Can't find any data on the Marshall JCM 800 Bass Series 4x12 but you can be 99% sure that it will be 8Ω as well. HTH
Don't see how you can say that when it has 4 x 15-ohm speakers. The 4x12 cab is probably 15-ohm.
 25.
Does anyone have an Auralex Gramma pad they can bring with them for a quick before and after demo?
Yes. Will do.
