I know lightweight and valve dont go together. But I want to know what is the lightest valve amp going. At the moment I am looking at the ORANGE TERROR BASS 500. What seperates this from regular valve amps, and can somebody comment on their sound. I am just looking for a list of amps names really, however any info/advice is welcome. Cheers.
The Terror Bass 500 is hybrid amp. Valve pre-amp but a digital solid-state power stage so that is why it's light. There have been several reviews here and an excellent video demo. The Search function will help you find them.
 5.
Back to Epifani 10's Dave.
Would it be a UL410 by any chance?
 6.
Back to Epifani 10's Dave. A friend of mine near Farnham introduced me to them about 3 years ago and he was right all along
Anyone I know?
 7. I can thoroughly recommend the Sony MDR-XB700. Serious headphones and not outrageously expensive. Excellent right down to low B.
 8.
OBBM.... where have you been???
I'm here. I'm always here.
 9. I think the fact that it's all one space does make a difference. I have compared 2 x Epi UL112 against a UL212, which are comparable in volume, the UL212 sounds much much deeper. As they say "there ain't no sustitute for cubic inches". No doubt Alex will put us to rights.

 12.
The first serie from Epifani is heavier than series 2. And it's heavier as old Mesa or Ampeg Cab. I could, when I went to the Geert's house (wombatboter here on basschat), test the difference between old and new cab from Epifani. Ask him also for speakers use in. :beers:
Actually there have been 3 ranges of speakers. The original, and first series of cabs were the T-series. These were seriously heavy and used non-Neo speakers. Next came the original UL series which are very light. These used B&C Neo speakers. Finally there is the current UL series 2 which are slightly heavier than the original UL-series and use custom Eminence Neo speakers.
 13. Just bought a rather excellent Godin A5 Fretless from Zapp(Dave). Very smooth transaction and it arrived quickly in first class order. Cheers Dave.
 14. After much deliberation I have decided that these have to go so I can acquire something smaller/lighter. Top cab is the UL112, series 1, 8-ohm. Owned from new and complete with Epifani branded cover. £300 + carriage or collect or meet. Bottom cab is a T112NYC, 8-ohm. Also owned from new. This is the previous non-Neo range. It is voiced differently from the UL112 and sounds much deeper. £250 + carriage or collect or meet. As a pair they make a very loud and punchy rig. I could be interested in trades involving a Phil Jones Briefcase or an Epifani UL110 or a EA 10" Wizzy. BTW Amp rack went ages ago.
 15.
Bit of a weird one, this idea just popped into my head and there's no way in hell I'm finding out the hard way! My amp head and my cab both have a speakon and a 1/4" jack connector. What would happen if both of these were connected up at the same time? I'm not quite dumb enough to think that it would double the output But my initial guess is that it would cause no damage and just sound exactly the same. Of course, it could also short everything out and explode. But does anyone know for sure?
The amp outputs will be wired in parallel and both carry the same signal. You can connect a speaker of appropriate impedance to either or a speaker to each. The connectors on the cabs are also wired in parallel so you can loop from one cab to another. Connecting both amp outputs to two connectors on the same speaker can also do no harm. You are just doubling the effective size of the cable between the two. As you say it will not increase the amp/speaker output power. WARNING: The above presumes that all your speaker cables are wired the same way. For example: Jack to Jack - tip to tip and sleeve to sleeve Speakon to Speakon - 1+ to 1+ and 1- to 1- jack to Speakon - Tip to 1+ and Sleeve to 1- Best to check them all with a meter before trying.
 16.
If you really think you need it, and if the others will o.k. it, then the smallest, LEAST VISIBLE, and probably the cheapest answer is the Roland Microcube. It uses batteries, which may suit the type of gig you`re playing, and will push out enough sound in that kind of setting for you to hear yourself.....which I think may be at least part of the problem. I often play DB in a folkish setting sometimes involving quite a few musicians (10 or more) and they can always hear me.....although I can`t always hear myself as much as I LIKE, which is why I bought the Roland! You may find some on the front line in that kind of setting who object to amplification, by the way, and they may not even notice the Roland stuck quietly away under a chair. Just don`t talk about it!
Thanks for that. I think you've hit the nail on the preverbial head. My hearing is pretty bad these days. I like the accoustic band because I can play with my hearing aids in rather than the electric band where I have to still wear ear-plugs. My low end sensitivity ids pretty dire but IEMs is not the answer. I was totally unamplified at the weekly accoustic jam last week and the others said how good is was to have the bass there so they were obviously hearing it, even if it wasn't loud enough for me. I will give it a shot. I have also been considering a PJB B100 Cub. Walbassist has one and is going to let me have a go sometime.
 17.
Well I have to admit I think you guys are too close....coming soon the new "Zimmer" range with built in wheels and fold out arms and shopping basket adapter ;-) M
Sounds like my sort of cab.
 18. Just started playing in Jug band with 5 others - accoustic guitars, mandolin, banjo, ukeleles, violin. There is minimal PA support for the vocals and instruments but the bass needs a touch of amplification. For the first gig last Saturday I used my MB F1 and Epi UL112 but it was really a bit OTT and bulky. A combo would be ideal as it is faster to rig and derig. Can anyone suggest something lighter, more compact and better suited to a DB. I have plenty of kit if I want loud.
 19. Oh dear, competition. Back to £140 for this pristine example.
 20. Seems that the price is too low so how about starting at £200.
