  1. Using good monitors is definitely a big help, so you can hear what's going on in the lows. I'm using a pair of adam aX7 I had second hand from a friend, they are great for 80Hz and up. For me, on the basis of my current projects, I always just DI the bass and process later. It's true, the tone is pretty much in your fingers. Performance, timing and intonation is everything when it comes to getting a vibe right. EQ is the biggest tool, carving up sounds to help them slot into the spectrum better. I cut away most of what isn't needed. LPF and HPF are your friend. Subtractive EQ is important for getting sounds where they need to be. I'm usually to be found recording hip hop bass tracks these days and can get 99% of the way there with just the performance and a good ear.
  2. Bluebeard fuzz, great pedal and Sonny is a great guy to deal with. Also love the zoom ultra fuzz for that gated sound. Love fuzz!
  3. They are without doubt the best basses out there. Been playing Spector for 15 years now and nothing else gets that tone!!! So versatile and hi def. Snappy with a magnificent bottom end.
  4. Thanks a lot for taking the time to listen to us!
  5. Thanks Sean Having owned a 400+ in the past, I can understand your love for yours. They are great great amps. You'll be happy with Matamp. Jeff's a beaut! Plus it's so nice to be able to meet and speak with the guys that build them I wouldn't have it any other way. I love my gt200. Cash permitting I think I'd commission a matamp combo, 100w. Need to make the pilgramage oop norf again soon, Steve needs his gt120 revalved.
  6. Cheers Sean! Thanks for buying the ep and for your kind comments! Honestly it means a lot! I engineered and produced the ep myself so had bags of fun putting it all together. My friend in Florida mixed it though as he's got the edge. Hope everything is well with you Sean
  7. Cheers man. Thanks for taking time to listen and comment. Really really appreciate it!
  8. xilddx Thanks for listening and taking time out to comment! Only just saw that you'd replied I'd say what distinguishes us the most are our daft Welsh accents No, on a serious note.... Good question though! I'd say what distinguishes us the most, is that the core members of the band have been playing music together for a long time, almost 15 years. Our music is definitely our personal antithesis to a lot of things going on in our lives and heads..So what you're hearing is an accurate portrayal of us through the medium of music. We've always existed outside of any direct 'scenes' and as such find ourselves struggling to get gigs or even fit in. We generally end up playing gigs with totally mismatched bands, but still enjoy playing live regardless. At least we're doing things our way is what I keep telling myself. I quite enjoy it that way as well. Doesn't really answer your question that well though does it lol ATB Tim
  9. Hi all, I've uploaded my band's new EP 'Argonauts' to our bandcamp page, as well as our debut album from 2009. We're a metal/hardcore band from South Wales. I used my spector euro lx bass throughout on the new ep. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Much love Tim x www.argonautmetal.bandcamp.com

  11. soundcloud.com/argonautmusic All solo acoustic weirdness...not much bass on there. It's my band's account tho so need to move the files onto a fresh soundcloud
  12. Brilliant amps. Had mine for four years now. Thinking of doing the pilgramage to matamp to get mine revalved at some point. Mine's never missed a beat and I've played it hard! Someone do the right thing and snap this badboy up
  13. It's the scorpion of basses. Plently of sting in the tail :-) When i get the mixes back ill upload some hip hop sessions i've not long done with my spector. Gotta love that emg p pup solo'd. Phat richness
  14. Apologies if i've missed the info, but can you tell me what the connections are. Jack or speakon? Also, how would you describe the sound of the particular drivers in the cab? Cheers, Tim
  15. Nice :-) always fancied a green one myself! Running mine through a matamp gt200 and matamp 610
  16. Yeah they're total classics in their own right. Not sure how much they are new nowadays, but i remember paying £1k back in 2004 for mine. Yeah i may stick a detuner on there, but then again I don't mind muting my bass via tuner to tune. Main reason I wanted to try the 35" scale is the improved intonation in drop D. Got a fresh set of high beam to stick on and it could do with a wax. Time for it's yearly m.o.t soon!!
  17. Would love to try one of those as i'm frequently back and forth between e and d. The necks are indeed sublime. Nice thick fretboard on them. Like the narrow string spacing as well.
  18. Yeah mine's without the trimpot as well, although i've never had an issue with the high output no matter what amp or device i've hooked it up to. These basses snarl. The emgs coupled with the woods, bridge and tonepump produce a sound that is as you say edgy. I slimmed down my collection of 3 basses to just my euro 4-lx a while back. I prefer to concentrate on one instrument and part of the fun is learning to fit sonically where I choose to in the music that I play and record. Spector nailed it when he said 'a bass for life' :-)
  19. Any love for spector euro-lx models guys? Had mine for 8 years or so. A 4-lx. Brilliant basses. They don't do everything but have a sound unto their own. Pretty satisfied with the tonepump, never really missed the mid control of say an emg circuit as there's plenty of natural bite with these basses anyway. I love mine anyway and it's always done an admirable job in the studio. Plenty of range between pups and the eq. Although intonationally speaking it seems slightly happier in e rather than drop d. I'd love to have a blast on an ns-2. Tim :-)
  20. bluebeard all the way!
  21. Nice one Si! Will look forward to hearing the mix
  22. Lovely jubbly :-) Nice and prompt. Not a problem Ci, i've got 400 of the buggers under my bed. Well..399 now :-) Asbos are good and i feel honoured to of contribited to yours :-P Perhaps a name change to Asbonaut would be appropriate lol Tim
