This is a tricky part. Don't try it pissed.
This is where I kept going wrong! I am one of the cheaters, I leave the open A out, just for ease of playing when under the influence!

I've just bought an Elixir cable on recommendation from friends, but i wish someone had shown me OBBM's site! I think the layout of the website is brilliant - plain, simple, and to the point. At least i now know where to get my cables from - I think my next purchase will be an OBBM speaker cable for my amp!

Folding stand for gigs - best value
TheRockinRoadie replied to lanark's topic in Accessories and Misc
My band use a pair of those flight case style stands, where the case opens up and you assemble the stand. Leather straps with buttons stop the instruments from falling out. I like them because they look great and are easy to use. We airbrushed the band logo on the front, so they look good when facing the audience too! I've had lots of experience with the hercules grab stands aswell, and I have never had a problem. This includes usage with J's, P's, Warwicks etc and all were fine. I also have one of the wall mount hercules hangers, its also good quality, and I feel slightly reassured that whatever i hang on it wont fall out! -

Hi there, Thanks for the offer, but tribute bands arent my thing, I find it too limiting. Am i right in believing you also phoned my bands manager (Ian) in response to one of our classic rock band adverts several months ago? All the best, L -
I love going up to Bass Merchant, originally im from colchester, so it gives me and excuse to see family and whatnot. Staff are great, and the products stocked are always fantastic! For general musical interest, its also worth going to Music Warehouse is town, but dont buy anything as they have a tendancy to rip people off bigtime!

Covering bass lines exactly? No need?
TheRockinRoadie replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
I would rather learn a song from chord charts (with the help of tabs, which are usually wrong anyway) then play something close to the original, but within my capabilities, than try to play the original and mess it up in front of an audience! Obviously things like Alright Now and Eton Rifles would need to be as per the recordings, but most of the stuff my band does can be simplified, or are really easy anyway! As I said in my earlier post "I like to THINK I am being creative" This doesn't necessarily mean I AM being creative.
This is exactly what I do! Being a bedroom guitarist, i often find it easier to learn the chords from chord sheet/band member, and then work the rest out by ear, im not keen on TAB, and like 4stringthing said, theyre normally wrong anyway! Cheers L -

This is quite interesting for me... Personally, i think it depends on the song. Obviously, if the song is recognisable by the bassline, or there is a fill in the song that everyone remembers, then i'll stick more or less to the original, however, most of the time, i tend to play roughly the 'correct' line, and add a few fills and little improvisations where i deem appropriate. This is basically how the whole of my band works, so we end up with recognisable sons, made our own. This also means you dont end up sounding like every other covers band round these parts! Interesting topic -
^ Now thats what I call a Jazz Bass!! ^

Fatboytoo aka Richard I dont know if many people on here knew him, but he bought and sold many basses etc through this site. He checked the forums daily but, I dont think he posted very much. Was a lovelly, kind, honest guy, and will be greatly missed by friends and family. Me and my girlfriend popped over with his crimbo present last week, its all very sudden. My Lakland came from Richard, and also the Washburn i used to own. He leaves behind a fantastic collection of instruments. RIP buddy

I'm afraid i'll need that at practice, but Nick has been trying to buy that off of me for ages now!! On a slightly off topic note, does anyone know where to put a fellow BCer RIP Post? We lost a good guy this week =[

Hi all, Im afraid i can't make it now, as i have band practice... =[ However Nick might still be popping along - Hope everything goes well! Cheers L
is that a black tailpiece as well? If so very black indeed
No, but i did think about it - Its just chrome, but the lighting was crappy so it didnt come out very well!
Whoa ! When I first looked at that I thought it hadn't been strung but I just spotted the packet for the roto tapes in the first pic. Nice Did you need to modify the the nut for those fat strings ? I think I spy a needle file there so I'm guessing you did. Andy
Nope - the strings i had on it before were 110 so 105 is actually lighter. The needle file was for making the pickguard fit, its a USA plate from Axesrus so it didnt quite fit the Mexi. In the end only one hole needed opening out, along with both control holes. The plate didnt want to fit over the pickups though, it took alot of giggling and filing before it would all go together! Cheers L

Finished the precision - sounds Fantastic! At the moment i'm pretty much GAS-free
