There are several of those threads popping up in the for sale section

Sounds like he couldn't be bothered to learn 3 songs to jam along to

Here's mine, Will probably start uploading tracks I've mixed over the last few weeks https://soundcloud.com/ben-webb-15

it should work as long as the preamp is off on the mxr, think the behringer has a drastic mid scoop built in though.

We use a company called horus music; we get monthly payments and statements, they'll put your music everywhere for you. Most people will go to amazon / itunes / spotify for downloads and not a webstore (in my experience; YMMV)

With the boss Micro Br I think you're best bet is to convert each of the individual instruments / takes you recorded onto the BR as WAV files and import them / upload them that way. Make sure when you do this that anything that comes in later in the track / song still record the silence that comes before it comes in so it has a starting reference point in reaper. I am assuming you haven't bounced all the tracks down to the stereo master stage?

Technical issues and can't play the gig... ever happened to you?
Old_Ben replied to CamdenRob's topic in General Discussion
A few years ago the power to the stage went out and took about 40 minutes for them to switch it back on... also one night 3 fire alrms went off, twoce during our set and once before. the place evacuated and refilled each time... -
Thanks for the feedback guys, It's always helpful to have a second third or fourth set of ears and opinions on these things! Doug; The only thing I found with your mix was the drop out with the gating on the drums was quite present and took away from the flow of the drums I feel! But the automation of the guitars was something I overlooked and should have done in mine, and would have added to the 'in your face' aspect.

Hello, It's a punk song, very raw. Used reaper and I personally try to not add to much to the music and let itself do the talking, unless there is something very boring going on or everything was done via DI. Simple pans left and right guitar, EQ to take out a lot of rubbish noise. I use reaper primarily at the moment, all the stock plug ins except for the gcomp compressor, which I find very good at taming unwanted peaks. I resampled the snare & kick drum using addictive drums 2 as there was so much background noise. I always forget to pick a reference song or 2 to judge everything by. Probably my main downfall at the moment! As the style & playing was rough and ready didn't want to over polish the music, so kept some of the timing slip ups. (or because I'm lazy)

Just been using the mix library and posted up a new mix, can anyone offer any feedback on the balance, imaging or anything else? http://discussion.ca...play.php?fid=98

If your front man is boring then you're boned! 1) the main person must show how passionate about the music he is singing / performing they are through body language & facial expression, failure to do this instantly puts me off. 'if you're not enjoying it then I'm probably not going to either' 2) communicate with the crowd, whether it be banter or telling a story that they can find engaging. Ignoring them and being able to get away with it is very hard to pull off well, unless you're a damn good singer. 3) Actually be a good singer ... If someone is doing those things well then I'm usually enjoying the show, and would have to search for something to say they weren't a good front man.

Most t-shirt companys will charge you around £20 for a screen (a colour on the design) then sell you t-shirts at £3.95 per t-shirt for orders of about 50, then reduce about 20p per extra 100 t-shirts etc, then add on postage + VAT your looking at around an initial small order of £280 for 50 t-shirts which makes each t-shirt around £5.60 each, but you have to order 50. But you get 25 in one colour and 25 in another it'll look like you have a couple of options for the same price... The good news is if you pick the right company you can use that same screen for hoodies, and other merch to throw in at a later date without having to pay for another screen done.

Supporting local gigs and venues - is it an obligation?
Old_Ben replied to Marvin's topic in General Discussion
I think the onus is on bands playing and the venues to make each night a success, if both parties aren't being pro-active and working together then the night is bound to fail. I have had countless occasions seen / been at / played at nights were the bands on expected the pub to be full with regulars & the landlord has expected the bands to bring 50+ people into his pub / venue. I don't feel I should actively go out looking for bands playing, the bands should make me want to go out and see them. -
If the initial cost is prohibitive, try Dizzyjam. You upload artwork and your fans order merch direct. Dizzyjam then send you a share of the price. Www.dizzyjam.com
Seems like a good idea for those just starting up! but the stats on the home page make it look like each artist only sells 1-2 items! Get a single screen (one colour design) and get some tshirts, we use shirtysomething.com, nice and friendly. If you have no recordings might be worth borrow a decent set of mics or something and recording a couple of songs and getting someone on here to make it listen-able, then burn them onto cheapy cd's and give them away with the t-shirts / almost as flyers!

It works fine! Thanks once again!

I'll take it

Do you/your band rehearse with full gigging set-up?
Old_Ben replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
I usually use my gear as the studios will charge extra for using stuff as they only supply drums and PA. But it also looks awesome so don't mind... s'pose it sounds good too! -
I wouldn't do it if I were you, build your own following closer to home and then they'll come to you if you get a good reputation. This sounds like typical BS to get bands to come and play for free saying; "we invite everyone from sony records!" guaranteed not one of them turn up, (even worse is if one does turn up and no one is watching you play as you're an out of town band who brought no one except the girlfriends)
-
Most producers / engineers will put up samples of their work, you should think they were suitable for mixing / recording your band based on what you've heard of their work, or just don't choose to work with them?
-
Some might argue that the processing is there to amplify the best bits of each sound to bring it together as a whole unit and deliver a quality product that doesn't sound 'second rate'! Musicians are insecure perfectionists at the best of times so to tell them to make it the best it possibly can, I'm surprised any of them finish and not spend forever tweaking and processing!
-
There have been plenty of singers unable to sing and be loved by millions! Use autotune to create melody, might feel like cheating but a little goes a long way... or make it horribly obvious autotune so that it's just like that cher song

If you're using the box as a DI are you using phantom power from the desk, so you're not picking something up that happens to be on the same electrics circuit as something else random. is the buzzing only when your distortion is active? If so you can set the noise gate to cancel out the noise when you're not playing anything.

I spent about 550 on my tower and had a mate put it together for me, specs wise not perfect but does the job for the time being; I don't have as fast a processor I would want, will upgrade it to an i5/7 later on this year as I currently have a 3.2 dual core, and possibly add another ssd drive to it, currently have 120gb, but once I'm done upgrading will probably have spent the 700+ that Mornats is quoting. I did however spend a bit on the graphics card, which if PC gaming isn't what you're after you can probably save a bit of change to have something else more audio based, like some extra RAM or a larger ssd drive, or a better audio interface!

Well they could hire from a practise studio a rig to get through a gig for 40-60 depending where they go / what they're after, so around that figure would be all right, just amp and cab, but if they wanted to use yours for 'your exact gear' as that's what's been requested and you happen to have it, definitely charge more!
