For those of you that use midi based drums when recording / editing songs, do you guys prefer to mix them inside the program with fx built in, or do you export each piece of the kit as a separate track and mix using other things?

Most of the time guitarists will use reverb to make something sound like it's being played in a much larger room, and therefore more dare I say 'epic' feeling, and to help a solo cut through the mix. I would maybe use it in conjunction with another effect to give it a bit more ambience and depth, but don't see why I would use it on it's own with a bass. You can set a delay up so that it gives you a touch of 'slap back' which is like it's bounching off a wall close to you to amplify what you have just played. usually this is a very subtle effect. Or you can set it just right for a song you're playing and make it sound like a double note. (Or make people believe you're double thumb slapping when you're not) Or just throw in a phaser and put them all on maximum and you'll make some awesome sci-fi effects...

Although not directly related to music, I used to hear the 'achievement unlocked' noise from the xbox 360 when going about my daily life. Don't know whether it was related to anything specific though

We always tend to have an EPK Link that we send out to promoters and bookers to let them know what we've done and are doing at the moment, and give some background about the band, and what we can bring to the table with regards to ticket sales e.t.c. With that link goes an email with some blurb introducing ourselves and who / what referred us to that person in question. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, but we find showing that you have been recommended, as opposed to cold calling / emailing goes down better!

Have you tried it with a power supply yet to see if that is the issue?

Advice needed - Home-Rec of Band without Drum-Kit
Old_Ben replied to cloudburst's topic in Recording
Don't know much about your set up, and what kind of feel you want the recordings to have. So if you want to capture a live sound or feel then it might be best to get everyone in the same room, and have everyone record in the room, not using any real amps but using a program like amplitube which allows you to have amp and effect simulators that are pretty good and realistic. and then take the midi input for the drums and have everything go through a speaker set up, then everyone will be able to hear each other. For quality control purposes you will get better results doing vocals and acoustic guitar separately in a quiet room with no one around and play along to what you tracked in the room. However doing it this way will make it harder, (especially if you are recording it and not getting an engineer / friend to do it) to make sure everything is in time / tune and with minimal mistakes, and may find it easier to do a guide track for the drummer, then get his parts bang on, move on to guitar & bass individually, then add vocals keys and solos afterwards. However that set up should be fine for your needs! -
I won't detail my thoughts on that article, as this chap nails every single point for me: http://www.altpress....ery_foundations Ludicrous!
The only thing I think that guy misunderstood was that some of the musicians in the band were session musicians not band members. therefore would need paying!

I use the m80, pretty nice sound in my book, + has a handy noise gate on the distortion channel too. And can be run on phantom power from the desk if you're getting dodgy grounding hum when using the DI from power sockets. However I like the sound of it mixed with my OBT so my opinion might not be valid to you!

I have been thinking about trying it out, but keep getting the fear that every time I play, I'd be constantly tweaking it as the settings would be unsuitable for different songs at different speeds.

they put it up again today this time for 69.99, so might do the same again tomorrow ... 59.99??
They mention "equipment hire", so does this mean they dont use their own instruments to avoid wear and tear or damage
Could be amps and cabs as well, a lot of touring bands will rent their equipment cheaper from endorsements, as if there is a problem they can get it swapped out pretty quickly, and if your flying, sometimes it's cheaper to rent than pay for the extra luggage costs.
