Fair enough. So where do you stand on the matter of mixing cabs?
Usually, about 6 feet in front of 'em. I've actually used 1x15 + 2x10 for years, but I'm currrently on a 1x15 and 2x8 combination. I'd agree 100% with bass_ferret on the unpredictability of mixing dissimilar cabs if not bi amped or utilising a cross over.

Seems I'm in a tiny minority then. Not unknown, I must admit. Position maintained and conscience perfectly clear though.

Andrew Bishop owner of amp and PA manufacturer Carlsbro noted: The petition has more than double the number of signatures of the petition calling on the PM to impose an arms embargo on Israel following its Gaza offensive. Once again, public concern about the regulation of live music proves to be greater than the either the government or the media appreciate." And that is PRECISELY the point as far as I'm concerned. Those who chose, for reasons best known to themselves, not to "waste" their signature on what they considered to be a less than "kosher" petition should examine their consciences I think. All IMHO, naturally.

Warms the cockles of you heart doesn't it? lOL

"Ok so we got carried away, but i'd rather i signed it and it turned out not be true than not have signed it and have it happen. I'm sure i read about it somewhere though... oh well." My point exactly.

FWIW, I've NEVER been able to contact Sean/Shaun via telephone. The best I've ever got was a female voice telling me he wasn't there, refusing to take a message and telling me to "keep ringing back until I catch him". Needless to say, I haven't pursued it any further!!

A bump for more added gigs and some housekeeping.

Yep, the inexorable march of the jack boot I'm afraid.
There have been plenty of cogent posts stating the truth of the matter: The law has been in force for 9 months. It doesn't make noise control compulsory. The 70 dB limit is nothing to do with this petition and is quite frankly a red herring. The only thing incredible is that people are still signing the thing. Now, I'm off to start a petition against the Government's proposal to limit pub opening hours to 8pm to 10pm...
I'm well aware that there have been a number of "cogent" posts purporting to state "the truth of the matter", but I remain truly astonished that so many people apparently value their signature so highly that they dare not "waste" it by signing up to a petition which may or may not be 100% kosher/valid/accurate etc etc. I've repeated this so often now that I'm beginning to bore myself, so I'll have to content myself with the view from the moral high ground, safe in the knowledge that I have done all that I can.
-
Yes folks - far better not to sign it just in case it isn't genuine. Incredible!!!  IMHO.
True, but it does lessen the impact of petitions when people blindly sign anything without doing any kind of research.
How so?
Problem is that pubs don't seem to be using that kind of equipment. We played "a well known biker pub" in Leeds in December and as soon as our vocalist opened her mouth to soundcheck the power switched off. The landlord told us to plug our PA into another circuit and we proceeded to have a great gig with no further issues.
Absolutely!!! It should come as no surprise that the vast majority of venues currently fitted with limiters (in my experience, obviously) ARE using equipment which may well be obsolete but certainly DOES CUT OFF. It's all very well discussing cutting edge technology but naive in the extreme to think that this will be in wide use in anything other than top venues. My perspective on the petition (forgive me if I'm repeating myself) is that it costs precisely nothing to sign it and, if it is a hoax or misrepresentation of the true facts, what have I lost by signing it? Absolutely nothing. Better that than digging up all sorts of statistics in some strange attempt to rubbish it. All IMHO, obviously.
-
IMHO, it would be much quicker to just sign the darned petition, rather than spend ages on research in an attempt to prove that it isn't worth signing. But that's just me. I've signed it.
I can confirm that Phil and Michelle from the Milestone are going to take over the Railway. Last time I went past it it was still boarded up. I'll let you know when I find out. Dunno who is going into the Milestone but I hope we don't lose that as a music venue. The Black Horse is the one up by the nick - the last landlord apparently did a runner with the takings some time ago. I don't think it had a great reputation as a music pub, so some things probably won't change ;-)
Shame that. It's the land"lady" who should have been boarded up IMHO. Hopefully, the new regime can go some way toward builidng a decent reputation in the future eh?
Only music Pub near the Corn Exchange is the Swan as far as I was aware (waiting for a gig there this month hopefully). Is the Black Horse the one by the Police Station that I've never been in? God I hope she hasnt become involved with the Swan in any way...
Or any other music venue on this or any other planet.
Rumor is the landlord/lady from the Milestone (who left after New Year) are taking over the Railway ?? Let's hope so !! I think the 'witch' mentioned above is now at the Black Horse (?) near the Corn Exchange ??
If so, I must add The Black Horse to my list of "Venues To Avoid Like ThePlague" too!! Assuming she is continuing her legendary career in the promotion of live music of course.
Ahha thats classic. I live in ipswich and all origionals (and alot of cover ) bands stay well clear of that place =] Glad to see its reputation flourish.
Indeed. I gather that the poisonous witch with whom we had our bad experience has long gone. Maybe there IS a God after all eh?
Looks busy. Nice one. You'll be delighted to know that The Railway in Ipswich has changed hands ;-)
Yes indeedy - it's shaping up nicely isn't it? Interesting news about The Railway. I hope the former landlady has got her richly deserved just desserts, one way or another.

An update with some local shows for next summer.

My pleasure. Good luck with it.

I used an Ashdown Mag 2x10 Combo and 1x15 Mag Deep Cab for years and in all honesty it was the most versatile, reliable and convenient rig I've ever owned. I used the combo on it's own for small gigs, rehearsing and recording and added the 1x15 extension when I wanted to move a bit more air. I only eventually moved on to the Superfly rig due to the rapid approach of old age and infirmity and. while I would certainly recommend my new rig to anyone, the Mag rig took some beating in terms of value for money.
Well, I could make something better for £0 parts costs (not including the parts, as they would be too expensive). So if you were doing an 8 KT-88 head, the parts cost would be £450+. Would you want paying a bit to make them, by any chance? While I think it's an eye-watering amount and I wouldn't be in the slightest bit tempted, to compare the costs of 2/3 (by value) of the components with the complete product after it's had all its manufacturing costs added on plus the importer's markup, distributor's markup, retailer's markup, customs duty, VAT, transport costs etc is rather disingenuous. And it's £750 cheaper than the RRP on the Ampeg Classic Series SVT-VR which is a mere 300W.
Absolutely correct. IMHO.
The Superfly's a great bit of kit.
Absolutely!! I've been using a Superfly head and Superfly 2x8 and a Superfly 1x15 for a while now without incident or problem. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
