2.
I was going to contact them. Shan't bother now - I'm 51. Way to old for anything.
You're a mere child my friend. Their loss, clearly, IMHO.
 3.
Dude, some punctuation and a nod toward standard English syntax would be much appreciated. That post is utter garbage.
Indeed.
 4.
I really like the Dan/Fagen solo stuff but I wish they'd smile once in a while. They look miserable when they play!
Nah - I think you'll find they're cool, not miserable.
 5.
I always liked Tom Barney's bassplaying, but I'm really digging Ready Freddie Washington. He's a great player! Would love to see WB play bass at some point - this might happen (possibly) if he does some solo gigs, but I'm not holding out.
Amen to every single word of that!!
 6.
So am I the only person to have listened to "Night Fly" after seeing it lauded to the high heavens and found it tedious and bland?
I think there's probably little, if any, doubt that I'm afraid. Vive la difference though eh?
 7. Amen to all of the above. Great, challenging stuff to attempt and fantastic stuff to listen to. Nobody puts a chord progession together (or a harmony, come to think of it) like Becker and Fagen IMHO Pretty much the soundtrack to my life since 1973.
 8.
doh! yeah, I meant Magic Stomp
Bugger!! Thought I'd discovered something else to lust after.
 9.
Yamaha Bass Multistomps are pretty good and have a (relatively) small footprint if you can get hold of one
Do you mean the Yamaha Magic Stomp, or is the Multi Stomp something entirely different?
 10. Utterly shameless self promotional Sunday afternoon bump.
 11.
I'm hoping to change from my Zoom to just 2-4 pedals that will give me "my sound" no matter what amp I plug in to. Don't get me wrong, the Zoom is a great pedal, but I only need one sound. I was wondering what 3 or 4 pedals should I be looking at to give me a good sound. I'm guessing a compressor/limiter to be one of them, and then presumably some form of DI box (MXR, SansAmp etc) at the end. I was just hoping I could get a couple of ideas/recommendations and then go from there! I will be selling my basses and Zoom in the coming weeks (hopefully) and getting myself a Squier VMJ after deciding to get back to basics and not go for a 6 string that I asked about in another thread. Thanks for any help!
All I can tell you is that my signal chain is: Bass>Boss TU2(Tuner)>BBEOptoStomp(Compressor)>SansAmpBassDriverDI>AmpInput That cetainly helps me to achieve "my sound" with just about any rig I am presented with, but I have no way of knowing what "your sound" is.
 12. Quite right. Sorry about that.
 13.
More likely the house PA - I've run that desk before & it was full of dodgy wiring. I seem to remember an odd 3 monitor system on one channel & a single one on the other side. i was always afraid of the nasty mis-matched impedances!
I shall bow gracefully to your infinitely superior memory/recall.
 14.
I just found some pics from a gig when we played at the Torrington, didn't even know I had these! It was my 40th birthday I think (which is why I was allowed to wear a different coloured shirt than the usual 'all black' gear, lol). I think we were a 9-10 piece at the time so no money for us either
Nice shirt You'd only have squandered the money on food and drink. Thinking about it, if you mistook our horn section for a string section, isn't that something of an indictment of our sound guy?
 15.
I seem to remember the horns (which I mistook for strings) and maybe a girl vocalist, or even two, hanging off the side of the stage
Yep, that was us - two girlie BVs as well. No wonder we made so much money eh?
 16.
Yep - I remember Danny Steel, I seem to recall a string section? God knows how you fitted on tot he stage at the Torry I know the Rayners was one of Pete's, awful venue, nearly always half empty, saw both Paul Lamb & Connie Lush perform to about 20 people. Had some vaguely funny evenings there, once saw Viva Santana & more than half the audience were from the Thursday night salsa dancing classes, all in full frills & lace but only one guy - the dance teacher (quaite a lucky guy as a few of the girls were looking pretty good!). Very surreal at times! Pretty sure the Worcester Park was one of his as well.
No string section. 3 - 5 piece brass section though. We never actually all fitted ON the stage, just in it's general vicinity really. I wouldn't want to be a promoter now either (or much else for that matter?), but I think it's fair to say that things were a little different then, unless my failing memory is playing evil tricks on me.
 17. Very late 90's up to September 2002 with The Danny Steel Orchestra (Steely Dan Tribute, surprisingly enough). You'd know if you'd seen us I think as there were between 10 and 13 of us on (or at least around!!) the stage, depending on the night. I think the other "Feenstra venus" we used to do were the Worcester Park and the Rayners Arms? On the other hand, I could be completely wrong on both counts.
 18.
Of course, it doesn't matter how good an act is, without sufficient promotion the whole exercise is utterly futile.
Indeed, and that's the eternal frustration isn't it?
 19.
I can't speak for any one promoter in particular but that kind of thing is typical on the blues circuit... which is one of many reasons why the gigs are so poorly attended in this country.
+1. I think the majority of "promoters" I've worked with should be prosecuted for breaching Trades Descritpion legislation. I'll never get my head round the concept that they'd rather sit at the gig and moan that the band haven't managed to draw sufficient punters when the chances are that very few people even know that the show is happening at all. It's truly a conundrum wrapped in an enigma.
 20.
I don't think I can make it to the Abbeye de Neumunster The Bull & Butcher in Whetstone is a bit closer to home though - one of Pete Feenstra's venues (he's an 'acquaintance' of mine from the Torrington days). I'm liking "Your Love" - some cool girlie singing at the end
I'm a "veteran" from the Torrington days too. Does Mr Feenstra actually actively PROMOTE his gigs nowadays? He always seemed to have "just missed the deadline for the press ads" whenever we worked "with" him.
 21.
Looks horrible imo.
+ 1.
 22. I've just completely squandered 2 minutes reading this thread. Can someone get them back for me please?
 23. The Beautiful Sound show this Friday, 3rd October 2008, is available as a live stream on t'internet via the following link: TheBeautifulSoundLive@TheSands Only £2.00 per stream session. Go on - you KNOW it makes sense!!
 24.
The people in the Milestone are very nice people. Rumour is that The Railway is up for sale, if you fancy moving into the rock and roll pub business.
I am astonished!! At least there'll be nothing built into the price for "good will" eh?
 25. BBE OptoStomp for me. Wouldn't be without it.
