1. Maybe I'm not then.
 2. Would making the Gigs thread a "stickie" make sense, or am I talking total rubbish? Edit: Having thought about it a little more, I fear that I may be!!
 3. Location would be really useful.
 4. Left hand thread OK? Note: 110v only.
 5.
All very amusing stuff, but while there are products like this being promoted then there's little need to make up ridiculously far-fetched nonsense: http://www.merlincables.com/index.php?app=...ref=dragonmains
Seriously though, this isn't real is it?
 6.
It's lovely, as already stated, if you have a change of heart on the trades drop me a line too, I have a lovely 6 + a few pence!
Still "collecting" I see.
 7. What on earth are you doing!!??? Go and lie down in a darkened room for an hour and then reconsider - you KNOW it makes sense!!
 8. Pleased to hear you're approaching a sell out. Hope all goes well for you!!
 9.
Big +1
And another 1!!!!!!!! It reminds me of a telephone conversation I had with a guitarist friend a few years ago offering me the bass slot in a Christmas tour with a (former) name band in which he'd been a member since the early eighties. The only info he could give me was that the gigs would be happening in December and January (the call was in September if I recall correctly), but he couldn't tell me how many gigs there would be, which venues they would be in OR what my fee would be!!!!!!!!! Incredibly enough, he was offended when I said "Thanks, but no thanks."
 10.
Had a (second) meet up with a potential band at Quad Studios in Leicester last night, and in the rehearsal room there was this MarkBass rig. Checking pictures on the net I think the amp must have been the SD800 (not the MoMark SD800) with a 4x10 and a 1x15 cab. First thought was "Wow, I've heard a lot about these - possibly the best rig I've ever played through" but when I plugged in I just could not get a sound I liked out of it whatever I tried (Starting with everything on the bass and amp flat - except the VLE/VLP which I had fully anticlockwise). The sound just seemed undefined with a very boomy bass. I unplugged the 1x15, which helped a bit, but even so, as soon as I turned the bass up (on the amp or at the guitar) it just sounded boomy and muddy. Now it may have been the room I was in (pretty well a cube), but you'd like to think that a rehearsal room at a studio would have good acoustics, and there were a lot of drapes and carpets around. Came away dissapointed by it and very happy to get back to my modestly priced Marshall gear. Is there a trick to getting the best out the MarkBass kit, or is this just what they sound like?
I've used Quad dozens of times but, whatever room and whatever house rig I ended up with, including the MarkBass stuff, I could never seem to get anything other than a horrible boomy bass sound. Eventually gave up and took my own rig and problem solved. To be fair, I suspect it is/was a combination of the room (my recollection is that all the rooms there, while well draped with carpeting, have very high ceilings?), using a strange rig "on the fly"and, on top of all that, the pressure that, being in a rehearsal space, you are "on the clock" and all time spent pratting about with the bass rig is time which then can't be spent more productively, from a band perspective. I've always come away from there with a splitting headache feeling, as you said, disappointed with the whole experience. Just my two pence worth.

 12.
Can anyone recommend a decent drum machine that a simpleton can work? Preferably with a good array of presets. Ta muchly.
I use this on my iMac: DrumMachine Could hardly be simpler and sounds just fine - to me at least.
 13.
I'm worried that you didn't realise you were out of tune when you were recording it.
Indeed . It was pretty obvious from the first note I think.
 14.
Never thought I would get the opportunity to see Big Country live - but they are on the road again with a new, and very good, singer. So off I went to Portsmouth last night to see them and carefully watch Tony Butler do his fantastic stuff. Still a great band, with great riffs and stage presence. But the gig was ruined by terrible sound. Even though I had my earplugs, I left before the end - before my ears bled. The great bass runs were lost in a cacophany of bass and snare drums. Even the neat cymbal work was lost in the mix. Did the sound man really not notice that turning everything up to 11 just resulted in mushy sound. The ample PA could not cope with the overload - it was clipped and distorted. The bass guitar was lost, and the mids and treble swamped by trouser flapping bass overload. I reckon about 50% of the gigs I go to have poor sound mix, but some are just ruined by bad sound engineering. So - if you are still with me, reader of this rant... when you strutt your stuff with your band, make sure your sound man keeps the sound under control. Otherwise all your hard work is lost on deafened listeners and your melodies overwhelmed by the mix. If you are going to see Big Country, take good earplugs and keep out of the speaker axis.
Totally agree with you. It's the apparent total inadequacy and/or deafness of the majority of Sound Engineers, even working with quite "big" bands, which tends to put me off actually going to,live gigs, unless I'm actually involved in the show!!
 15. Muchos gracias to the OP and to Fat Rich for technical assistance - that was WELL worth waiting for!! Great stuff IMHO. If all slap was as good AND as appropriate to the song as that is, I'd be a much happier camper.
I'm on my laptop, so can't be sure of the little details, but, you seem to be playing it ok However, I couldn't listen to much as your tuning is well adrift.
=1, although your timing is a little adrift too. The right notes in the right order though, as far as I can tell.
 18.
I got my Pedalboard case from them. Good solid case.
Me too. Years ago, they also adapted a used trunk case into flight case for my Ashdown which I needed the same day for a tour at short notice. Highly recommended.

 20.
This is a track I recorded at my mates' studio - riff I've had knocking about for a few years. Some may recognise the sampled intro as Bootsy explaining 'the one' on Rockschool in the 80s. I should hopefully be posting a more electric-bass-heavy version quite soon. I think the download defaults to spotify, but it should be able to open in other medias. Love it. Opened on iTunes on my Mac
 21.
Purchasing this... http://www.pmtonline.co.uk/ashdown-mag-hea...ab-package.html Does anybody have one or have/had experience with one...
Not that particular combination, but I did run a Mag 2x10 Combo on top of a Mag Deep 1x15 Cab for a number of years and it really was a glorious rig and excellent value for money IMHO. If I hadn't needed to downsize/weight for health reasons, I'm sure I'd have continued with the Mag rig for many more years.
 22.
Yup - I have significantly less top end sensitivity in my right ear than my left - the result of many years stood next to a crash cymbal operated by a very loud drummer.
Me too, although it's the right ear in my case. Apparently badly damaged but not to the degree which requires a hearing aid thank God. The doc at the EN&T dept where I had my hearing checked explained that drummers actually sit in the ideal position to protect themselves from the damaging high frequencies they generate with their cymbals whereas the rest of us, and specifically the bassist, tend to be positioned in precisely the worst position in that regard. Drummers - they be swines I tell thee!! Suffice to say, I haven't gigged or rehearsed without wearing my custom ear defenders for a number of years now. Not cheap and took a while to get used to them, but wouldn't be without them now. Just wish I'd taken the plunge a few decades ago!!
 23. Three words: Becker and Fagen. Nuff said? I"d certainly count myself as an "old fart", but whether I can still cut it is another question.
