Yeah, getting on fine. It's not exactly plug and play, but that's okay as I wasn't expecting it to be. Spent a few days messing about with it in a sorta semi-blind fashion, just to see what happens and see what button did what. Read the manual in the meantime and kinda makes sense really. Only slight hitch with it I found is that switching patches mid song doesn't really work because of the ever so slight but there all the same delay which is a bit of a shame but it's not what I got it for in the first place so no big loss. The whole create a patch thing is a bit annoying coming from individual pedals, but you'd need to buy (and carry) a couple of dozen pedals to get the same array of sounds under your feet so the patch thing is worth living with IMHO. In the end you've only got to program the patches once and then you're all set, whereas with pedals you have to remember your settings and so on. I'm a very happy camper thanks.
Cool .. People are making nice noises about DJ5's over on the Diana concert thread
Yeah, although i get a lift to and from gigs it always involves me getting to my pick up and sometimes a night bus home. Bloody lazy drummers.
Yeah ... ours only carries the drums, the Pa and the lights .. Makes me bring my bass gear myself! Selfish, I call it Hey Dave maybe it's time for one of these
I under stand your concerns about the drunks but my priority is transporting it with my suit bag, bass and sometimes camera bag. All on the tube.
On the tube? Ah I see ...
Bought Si's BOSS GT6-B earlier this week. Top man who serves a delicious mug of tea (was it Lady Grey, distinct citrusy tang?) and the coffee he and Rich were imbibing smelled preety choice too! Don't let him let you play his Shuker 5 string though as it could pose serious problems for the longterm health of your bank balance!
Cheers Pete Lady Grey? Nah mate, two bags of PG tips and one of Earl gry lemon? Oops I must have left some Fairy liquid lemon in the cup I hope you and the GT6B are getting on well
I really dont like the camera/tool case type boxes. I find the soft ones like rucksacks or laptop bags are easier to carry as you dont need a hand to do it. Just my thoughts on it.
Doesn't your drummer roadie for you ? I just worry about the mashing an amp would get in a soft bag if a drunk falls over your gear as you are packing up or if someone runs over it .. I'd also be scared a knob or two would get broken off.. The maplins ones have carry straps...
Yes, I also used Peavy gear for 15 years or so and didn't know what I was missing. It's reliable gear though - never once let me down. The Schroeder 1212L is everything I need and more. My band also notice a huge difference in my sound. Best bit of all is how easy it is to hear yourself. Frank
Yeah I've used Peavy off and on for 20 years the bass combos seem pretty bullet proof (no joke inplied there, Frank) Hearing myself so clearly is a tad worrying as I can't fluff as much as I used to
Dave, when I had the LMII, I used this - only £10 from BQ and the bubble wrap was free. Twas a perfect fit and had enough room for two cab leads.
I bough Maplins case but the foam won't leave space for cables so took it back and got the B&Q one and some bubble wrap like Homer. Much better. They are now £16. Oh and first proper gig with the Mark Bass LMK + Schroeder 1212L last night. Stunning sound. Even my band noticed .. One surprise difference between this and my Peavy gear is that when it got a bit loud at the end it didn't mash up the bass sound and hurt my ears. I could hear it all clearly so it was a lot less physically demanding. My ears feel better this morning too. It's a hit with me .. OG
I've just finished speaking to Jon. He's in the process of clearing as much up as he can and preparing for the deluge forecast over the weekend. Sandbags and wellies seem to be the order of the day. His wood store escaped from being flooded (which is a great relief - some of the stuff in there is fantastic) and he's basically got the floor area around some of the machines to dry out. He's not planning on moving anything back until after the weekend at the earliest. The best bit of news is that my bass is 2-3 weeks away. Rar!
I was up there last weekend before the flood .. he had a stunning fretless hollowbody there he was just stringing .. Not yours was it? Oh and Dr Dave I have a few pics of yoru st@tu$ body if you'd like them. Jon just had time to fit a mast an dsail before the deluge hit .. PM me? OG
Looks great - the next bass I get is going to have a maple fingerboard - they're stunning... May I enquire as to how much you had to part with to get that? I'm looking at getting a fretted 5 at the moment so considering all the options... Cheers John
John That man Jon Shuker does a fine custom ... Rich on this board has a very nice 5 string Shuker jazz style with a gorgeous maple board ... and you aren't that far from Sheffield (foot note required by forum bylaw 662.57 : Other bass luthiers are available)
so would it be a 34" scale..sorry to sound ignorant, but im failing to see the point
30" scale baritone guitar "Originally used mainly as a studio instrument that could handle the Nashville “tic/tac” sound, the Bass VI has built a loyal following among guitarists looking for a baritone guitar with a look and feel similar to the popular Jaguar® guitar."
I haven't bought anything else off Pete, but I just thought I'd like to reiterate what a nice guy he is. We all sat and had a lovely chat round at Si's the other night, was a great way to spend an hour or so. I had a go on his fabulous Lakky too, and now guess what I'm GASsing for? And there I was, thinking I was all bassed up. Pete's just a nice bloke to be around.
+1 on that He bought my GT6B and is very pleasant (so is his lakky DJ and his dog OG
There's the short-scale sound as well. Which also brings to mind that muddy sound typified by an EB-3 or Telebass. And also the semi-sound of the Rivoli/EB-2 - rounded attack and often less sustain.
Ah yes .. Andy Fraser in Free and John Wetton on Family's glorious track "Burlesque"

Well I sold the GT6B to P-T-P (cheers Pete, lovely Daryl Jones lakkie) and hit the high street yesterday for the B2.1u.. Initial thoughts are that the pre-programmed sounds are not quite as good as those in the GT6B but I'm not that fussed about that as it's just for slight colourings playing live. I just have to get to grips with the programming by Saturday night Nice and small though Anyone sussed the settings for sledgehammer? OG
Surely eBay is the place for a secondhand laptop bag? I got a new Dell lappy recently, and it came with a bag which I don't want to use. I looked at selling it on the bay, but it wasn't worth doing, as they only fetch a tenner or so. So I'll be using that bag for bunging my LM250 in instead
Ebay is covered with new laptop bags for about £6 delivered (thats £1 for the bag, £5 for the P+P) That's what I have so far but a Maplins foam lined aluminium case is looking like a better option for protection, assuming it's big enough. Maplins case £15
lol, yeah, when I used my old big MB head, Korg Rack Tuner and wireless all in a Gator 4U it kind of made it easier (if not heavier). Still, only need a little rig now, so this will do nicely. Thanks for your help
This came up in another thread today - double gig bag on wheels with big pocket... http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_double_bag...artner_id=82764 Ibanez make a bunch of interesting bags with mark bass sized pockets attached ... Mind you I'm not sure I want my bass and amp sharing a gig bag ...
I'll be honest when I read the title I was thinking of that "Spinal Tap" moment at the army base...I'm now slightly disappointed Yeah I'd just say try throwing some tin foil on it...
I finally got it down to a reasonable level by repositioning the radio ariel... Thanks for everyone's help
How large is the front pocket. Do you think you could fit a Mark Bass Little Mark II? (http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua=en&cat=1&vedi=69)
Yeah Im interested in that very question myself
