1.
This is a great example of why i seldom delve into this area of the forum. It is full of "freaks" who read far to much into comments and take offense where there is none to take. Then to add insult or give some air of superior being they feel the need to correct a fellows typing/spelling mistakes. It must be great being so elite.
Oh please don't paint us all with the same brush... However your post did read like an argument looking for someone to argue with. Pretty basses Vs functional basses is a well worn path and the description of a "coffee table" will annoy some people. In that absence of any hints it's not surprising that some people may take the post at its face value. Meanwhile: There are lots of people on here who like both, me included. I also like a nice bit of grain shining through a traditional sunburst or other translucent finish. It depends on the bass and context...
 2.
I'll be the first to say visit the gallery in camden town. In London it's THE bass shop. Not always the cheapest compared to online but they have a huge stock and some very nice higher end basses. You can spend hours there. Alex is the guy who runs it and will sort you out. Good luck.
+1 and they will sort all the setup stuff there and then for you - important if you only have a day.

 14. Ah .... A recent thread on buying basses in China I found an expats website that said many of the Fenders in China are fakes so that may be something you need to look at...
 15. Tricky. Maybe if you devide the question into genres. The thing is that for everyone who thinks Mustang Sally/So What/Master of Puppets/Bach Prelude and Fuges/Roundabout/School days/Higher ground/Lessons in Love/Portrait of Tracy/Something is compulsory there will be loads of players who never need to or want to play that track.. So.. Nothing comes into the "lines everyone should know" category but that list is a start
 16.
'The Best Band You Never Heard in Your Life'.
That's what got me into Zappa in the first place. Specifically hearing "Stairway to Heaven" on the radio. I didn't get it 'til then. Plus the album has some nice accessible cover versions as a gentle introduction to the original stuff.
 17.
Jeeez..I would. I'd be horrified.
ha ha Well not necessarily all of the time

 21.
At least there was no bingo at this one!
No Bingo??? What kind of deviant social club was that??
 22.
.. then you've missed the point of music completely." Scott Thunes - October 1996
Yeah well..... 1 he retired from music totally dischuffed and 2 he sounded like this:
 23.
I never expect, or feel I deserve, compliments, appreciative audiences, record deals, money, or an easy life. All I feel is great privilege to be able to play some good music with some really good musicians who, for some reason trust me with their music and, I think, like me as a person. I want to enjoy myself, feel friendship and rapport with the other band members while on stage and off, and get to express myself occasionally as a musician, and more importantly as a PERSON, within a musical context. The primary thing is doing something of "quality" but that is highly subjective, I only like playing with bands that produce good songs, with good musicianship and who look good on stage. I have met musicians in the past who are really up their own arses and come across like they are going to save the world with their music, and they DESERVE to be heard because they are GOOD and INNOVATIVE. Bollocks. They don't appreciate what a gift it is for someone to lend you their ears for a hour and derive some enjoyment from it, let alone some inspiration.
Yup Just happy to get away with having musical fun in a room full of people having fun. In the "Up their own" department, Poor ol' Paul Weller on the wireless this week talking about his Mercury nomination. He thinks he's "Cu''in' edge, chew chew" and made Wake Up the Nation to add edge to contemporary music. Eh? It's good (for a 50 year old) but sounding like various 70's heroes - Ian Dury, Elvis Costello, and Jerry Lee lewis etc does not make for a cutting edge album...
 24.
First gig with new band last night - a mix of rock & roll, country and blues. Typical Social Club crowd, smattering of applause every now and then, no-one taking any real interest, then when we finished everyone coming up and telling us how good it was and are we coming back! I've now played social clubs in London, Suffolk and Sussex - are they the same the world over?
Yup Type 3 Audience: Arms crossed, looking angry, sat in the same seat every Saturday night for 10 years "Go on then, fookin' entertain me. We 'ad that Abba Gold here last week. They were good"
