Sorry Scott - I probably wasn't very clear in my description. By “MIDI switcher” I meant a unit that includes/excludes one or more pedals from the signal path depending on the MIDI message it receives. The remote control would be a micro MIDI pedalboard in belt-clip format. Essentially, your pedals can be fixed to a shelf mounted in a rack case. In the same rack case you can put the “MIDI-switcher”. A series of patch cables connect the pedals to the “MIDI-switcher”. The bass signal would go in the “MIDI-switcher” that manages to effects. The output of the switcher goes to the amp input. The “MIDI-switcher” does no control or intereact with the amp. If you don't use wireless for the bass signal, Bluetooth is not necessary. Moreover, if you don’t have any other MIDI device, the remote control and the pedals switcher can be built to use a non-MIDI system. Regarding the mechanical solution it sounds a little bit heavy. I also doubt it would cost less than an electronic solution.
Essentially, what I'm looking for is a way to trigger effects on stage (mainly dirty drives, a choice of 2 would do) without needing to carry shed loads of gear around and without needing to stomp on pedals. (...)
My first instinct would be a pocket size (e.g. attached to your belt) MIDI controller. If you don't use wireless between your bass and the amp, the MIDI signal could be carried through a cable that runs parallel to the bass signal cable. On the other end of the connection, you could put a MIDI-controlled effect switcher like the G-LAB M4L or the G-LAB M2L. If you use wireless, the connection between belt unit and MIDI-switcher can be done with bluetooth via a custom receiver and transmitter. Not exacly a walk in the park but it can be done. To summarise: - Wires: Belt-unit, MIDI cable, MIDI-switcher, pedals - Wireless: Belt-unit with bluetooth [bluetooth connection] bluetooth-receiver with MIDI-out, MIDI-switcher, pedals If you use wires, and the number is pedals is limited, it is possible build a remote controller that is not MIDI-based. In other words, the remote controller "talks" to the remote switcher using a non-standard system.

I am not sure it is Fuzz. I may be wrong but it sounds more like a distortion to me. This could be a step in the right direction.
Anyone know how to do this that could explain it to me?
Could you tell us a little bit more? E.g. the brand/model of controller and what you would like to achive

The [sfx] micro-Fuzz works fine with active or passive basses. I think the MXR El Grande or the MXR Blowtorch are also ok with active basses.

It looks similar to this, this, this or this. I don't see any problem.

I am not sure I understand your requirements. Are you sure you don't need a mix box? /// Split box input: 1 signal output: 2 or more copies of the input signal /// Mix box input: 2 or more signals output: sum of the input signals

Thanks for your kind words Mark. It was a pleasure meeting you and have a chat about effects and signal processing. I am really happy to hear that you like your new [sfx] pedals. Regarding deej's question about the micro-rd (aka micro red dragon)... the micro-rd can produce fully saturated sounds but I wouldn't call it an aggressive overdrive. I was talking today with Mark about a pedal with a more aggressive distortion. Mark described it as “a distortion that begins where the RD ends”. I was thinking to a micro pedal with a Rat/DS1 distortion perhaps with a frequency-based clipping... what do you think?
(...) wished someone would do something similar for a cheaper price.
From the schematics I saw of other D*A*M pedals I would be surprised if it was a major problem.
-
I am sorry if I gave the impression that I though that £300 is an unreasonable sum to pay for the pedal in the photo - it wasn't my intention. Personally, I have no problems if a D*A*M pedal sells for £300 or £3000. As I said, I was simply curious about it. Moreover, strictly from the bass player viewpoint I have no way to judge - I never tried any D*A*M pedal.
-
I am the last person that wants to comments other people work but I am genuinely curious about it. Just to be sure I understand... ~£300 for this?

Markbass Reliability - or the lack of it??
Silent Fly replied to dodgnofski's topic in Repairs and Technical
(...) The people Markbass put me onto 'guesstimate' that there won't be much change out of £200! - which will make this a very expensive amp, if I get it fixed & dare to trust it again!! (...)
I am not that surprised the amp stopped working - everything can break. What surprises me is the cost of the repair. £200 is really a lot of money especially considering that I don't think there is anything in the F1 that costs more than £10-20. How much money do they charge per hour? -
Interesting review. The only thing that doesn't convince me is when he says: "Taking apart the Pitchblack revealed that its not true 3DPT switch, its a pad that touches a motherboard mounted no/off switch. Polytune has a true 3PDT switch..." True bypass can be achieved with any switch. Even momentary switches (I think Lovepedal implements true bypass in this way). MXR uses DPDT for true bypass (e.g. Blowtorch). [sfx] uses 3PDT or DPDT depending on the type of unit. In other words, the type of switch used has nothing to do with the quality of the bypass.
I've had a similar issue with using guitar pedals with bass. The bottom end is gone. Can an EQ fix that?
It depends. Without going into too may technical details, if the pedal filters the lower frequency completey, there is no way to fix the problem with an EQ. If the cut is not too agressive and it takes place only at the lower end of the spectrum, a little bit of EQ can help.
