  1. I thought I was done - 25 years with a Japanese Fender Jazz and a Danelectro Longhorn as backup. Then I joined Basschat..........
  2. Got my Baby Sumo in the post today (after paying the carrier £96 in vat and other charges, grrr). I wanted a clean, quiet and punchy back end for my Noble preamp. I've tried it in the studio through a couple of One10s, and so far it's just the ticket, silent, clear and punchy with no colouration, letting the Noble do its stuff unveiled. Rehearsal and gig next week, looking forward to trying it out (trusty Elf in reserve in case it all goes tits up).
  3. I know this song well, having covered it from time to time, but I can't get enough of this version at the moment. Live on WDR's Rockpalast. The magnificent Lucinda Williams, Doug Pettibone is on fire. Perfection.
  4. Stax, not Motown, but this is a good one for stamina. Both David Hood's bassline and the intro shamelessly stolen from Harry J's The Liquidator (with no credit ☹️)
  5. Ampeg PF50t all valve bass head for sale, bought for studio project, no longer needed. Good condition, comes with a padded bag. Collection from Bristol, taste and try before you buy. Or happy to meet up within 50 miles of Bristol. These are over £1k new now.
  6. Markbass LittleMark 250 Black Line Head, sparingly used as backup, great condition, original packaging, collection from Bristol welcome, or can post at cost.
  7. Bump and trade option added: early seventies P with B neck rosewood <9lb.
  8. It's an aftermarket one, Bass-Mute, https://www.bassmute.eu/bm_mainframe.html. Difficult to find, and quite pricey. I've got one on my Nash. This looks rather nice, what neck profile is it, and what's the nut width? Headstock graphics are quality, Brazen Picker Professional lol.
  9. Bump for this very wonderful Jazz. Here's what it looks like with a mint pickguard:
  10. Pointy bass, pointy, pointy. Anoint my ears, anointy nointy. Nice find, enjoy.
  11. Recently semi retired at 70, I've had a lifelong career in music as a freelancer since the early seventies, working in most areas of the industry, variously as backline tech, truck driver, tour manager, production manager, studio owner, producer, educator, bass player and singer. No degree or other qualifications, they weren't available back then. It's had its lean times, but also a few bonanza years, which ultimately paid for my house. It's a big leap of faith, but if you're committed, good at what you do, reliable, roadworthy, and good at networking, there's a fulfilling, interesting and varied freelance career to be had if you're prepared to recognise opportunities and take them.
  12. 2020 Fender Custom Shop '60 stack pot Jazz bass, aged Sherwood Green, relic, c.4kg, '60 U-neck, 9.5" radius. Currently wearing TI flats. Studio use only. Original case, covers, candy. I bought this new in 2021. Collection from Bristol preferred (come and try it in my studio), but I have original packaging so could post at cost, UK only.
  13. I had one for a couple of years, a '98 JDM in gunmetal blue after playing a '62 reissue MIJ for 25 years. The Aerodyne was ok in most respects, but I never really bonded with it. Sorry for the TLAs.
  14. I had the pleasure of being road crew for the European leg of Tina's 1990 Foreign Affair "farewell" tour (first of many farewell tours....). She was a wonderful woman, caring, kind and appreciative, a joy to work for. And such a pro. 100% every night, vocally perfect, full energy. She used to, with a wink, fine the band members $5 if they messed up, she never missed a trick. Band leader and MD was the late John Miles, another complete professional and a lovely bloke. Bass player was Bob Feit, great solid player. Tina's band was also Joe Cocker's too through the 90s, since they were both managed by Roger Davies. Tina was a proper star, exceptional in every way.
  15. I'd chop off our keyboard player's left hand.......
  16. I have spare copies of 1.4 you can have. Whether they're still working I have no idea. PM me.
  17. Familiar. I bought my Elf as a backup for my MB, and having needed to use it a couple of times, it's now my main amp for smaller gigs. Responsive and punchy, sounds great.
  18. I've currently got TI flats on my Jazz, and they suit it very well. Kind of halfway between rounds and the Labella LTFs I had on before, regarding brightness.
  19. Here's a nice solo from his Vertical Horizon days:
  20. I had a CS Sean Hurley signature P with the mute and Labella LTFs, and a Noble preamp as used in that video, and it sounded fairly close to that sound. But a lot of the tone comes from Hurley's light touch and the economical way he frets with his left hand.
