Neumann Ndh30 with Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen
Jakester replied to BassBeast's topic in Accessories and Misc
What’s the problem you’re trying to solve? If it’s simply volume, check the impedance of your headphones - I know for example that Beyerdynamic studio headphones have different impedances for different uses. In fact, interestingly it says here on the DT770 page: “Please Note - We recommend 80 Ohm headphones if you’re planning to use them alongside an audio interface such as the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 or another device with a less powerful headphone amp. These headphones have a lower impedance, which means you don’t have to crank your interface’s headphone volume to get a clear and loud signal. If you’re using studio-grade hardware with a powerful headphone amp, consider using 250 Ohm headphones instead.” https://www.gak.co.uk/en/beyerdynamic-dt-770-pro-80-ohms/16563?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiApaarBhB7EiwAYiMwqhiHGsDP8LitZfMHyEqn-9IOV5BedsU3K9YVGxWbr9cxjJKGXsm2HRoCwLoQAvD_BwE So from that, it suggests that if the problem is volume, you might need (as you say) a headphone amp. -
Have PM’d you!

I think it’s not so much that, rather the admin of booking bands is basically shifted away from the venue so it’s one less thing for them to worry about. There’s some pretty good gigs WSM, Portishead and Somerset way too - PM me for details if you want.

Yep, Brian’s got it stitched up like a kipper. Can be tricky to get in with him, but once you’re on the books, he has some really good gigs for covers bands. Blue Lagoon is surely the best though?

I often gig as a drummer using only a kick and overhead mic, or kick and two overheads. From the mics you mention you have, I would put the SM58 on the kick (as it's a dynamic mic so less likely to be damaged by higher SPL), ideally inside a few inches away from the point at which the pedal impacts the head, and use the large diaphragm condenser as a mono overhead about 2 - 3ft above the centre of the kit, and use the small condenser to highlight anything you particularly want to pick out (i.e. snare, or ride, for example). Another option might be to use the SM58 on kick, AKG as overhead, and the Samson a few feet in front as a 'room' mic. Or you could try and approximate the Glyn Johns/Recorderman setup with the SM58 on kick, one OH directly over the snare , and the other an the same distance from the snare drum but at 90 degs over by the floor tom. You should get pretty useful sounds just from that setup, and if you need to reinforce something (like toms, for example) you can always go back and overdub those parts close-mic'd.

I think there’s a chap in Brislington who does amp repairs - I’ve not used him, but friends have recommended him to me. Called Martin Bailey I think.

Just sold my Providence DBS-1 to Jacek - nice and smooth transaction, good communication - hope you enjoy it!

Looks like these are the solution: https://www.gallien-krueger.com/products/rack-kit-400rb-700-rb-1001rb-and-backline-amps Or you could probably fashion something that would work out of some sheet steel or angle brackets.

Could the knobs have been taken off one and put back slightly differently? Or it could be they were just like that from the factory?

Level 42 currently on tour... who's gone/going?

Wow - great gig. Super-tight right from the off - the horns were something else. MK brilliant - who here got his thumb plaster (yuk!) at the end? Properly impressed with Pete Ray Biggin, the drummer too - some real technical playing but never overplayed, just fit in very well with the bass. -
I am currently reeling a little, because for the first time in about 30 years I find myself not in a band! I play both bass and drums, and drums is my main instrument, so I’ve been in a band as the drummer ever since I was a kid. I was feeling a little weird because I was in a strange hiatus of gigs, but that has just progressed to every band I’ve been a member of suddenly imploding. My rock covers band had just gone through about its fifth change in singer in as many years, and after only our second gig, the new singer has cut off all ties. None of us can be bothered to go through the whole audition/rehearse with yet another singist (at least this side of Xmas) so that’s gone for now. The funk/soul/wedding band I joined in the summer has been struggling due to the guitarist taking some time off due to family bereavement- and now the singer has just flounced, citing a lack of commitment from everyone else. The jazz jam band I put together died, and the subsequent one I needed up playing in just did endless swing standards (I hate playing Summertime, particularly when it’s mid-winter) and it didn’t pay (which is how I usually justify my dislike of playing the same old stuff all the time), so I’ve quit that. A few months back I ended up playing every night of the week with two gigs on both days of the weekend! It nearly killed me, but I’ve gone from that to nothing band related at all in the near future. I do still play bass and upright in an orchestra, but our next gig isn’t until December - so I think October might be the first month in years I haven’t had a gig. Weird.

A mate has offered me a ticket so I’ll be there. TBH I’ve never really listened to them - I obviously know who MK is but they rather passed me by. Still looking forward to it as I gather their current line up are very tight. -
Thanks - I have a K&M stool so agreE they’re great, but then I have to carry a mic stand, which I want to avoid. At present, all my gear fits into a bag, including the presently flimsy tablet stand. A mic stand won’t break down small enough to fit.
-
The problem is I don’t want or need a mic stand - I don’t sing or have any vocal interaction whatsoever, so it’s really overkill.
-
Does anyone have any recommendations for a tablet stand? I use an iPad for my music (I play in an orchestra) and also for controlling the PA when gigging and it's not set up next to me. I have a cheapo stand but the threaded bolts are already coming loose, and it's not the most sturdy of things. I prefer a specific tablet stand to a music stand because they're smaller and easier to carry (handy when you've got a bass, amp, pedals, double bass, and PA to shift!) I don't want a "clamp-on" one that fits on a music stand - I'd much prefer a dedicated stand. My usual first port of call would be Hercules, but they seem to only do a clamp one. K&M seem to offer one but only on a mic stand bass, which means it would be less portable than I'd like. Anyone use anything else?

Oh my blimmin' god. I can't believe it. I am actually, demonstrably, the world's most incompetent man. And I think owe the repairer a fairly profuse apology. So, what happens, when you have a power-hungry pedal, and don't supply it with the correct power needed? It won't work properly. In the course of zip-tying and finalising the replacement Bassbone on my pedalboard, I looked at the PSU. "Hang on", I thought. "Are those jumpers upside down?" Yes. Yes, they were. Which meant the PSU was sending 12v to the pedal, instead of 15v. Which means that when it was tested using the original PSU, it would work fine. But when run off my board PSU (set incorrectly) it would struggle. I've just tested it again with the original PSU, and it worked perfectly. And the replacement on the board with the PSU set correctly now works fine too. I cannot believe just what a humungous todger I am. A full-on, weapons-grade 🔔🔚. AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!

Wow, they've gone up quite a bit in price since the first lot, haven't they?

Tiger guitarists' stool, with footrest and stand built in. I bought this to use when playing upright, but it wasn't quite right and I ended up with a K&M stool, so it's just not being used. Has a guitar stand built in so you can store your instrument when you're not playing. I can't post it so pickup only please. These are £48 plus P&P at GAK, so £35? I don't have a picture ATM but it looks like this:

Donner pedalboard PSU. Handy little power supply which gives lots of options - 7 9v 100ma outputs, one 9v 500ma output, and single 12v and 18v outputs. It was used on my pedalboard for years until I got a pedal needing a 15v supply - now it's just unused. Comes with all the connectors and PA-tested wallwart. £25 posted?
