Are they worth still buying new? Or is it better to try and pick one up second hand on the bay or something?
-
I have noticed that there are quite a few people on here that are very much into SX Basses. I currently own a SX Acoustic bass and i couldnt ask for anything better!. But i am looking for a P-bass and SX have been a brand i have been looking at alot. Can you still only buy them from the US? Or is there any dealers over here? Plus if anybody successfully modded an SX P-bass what were the results like?

Thats guy is pretty amazing! Iv had a look at a few of his other videos and just wow.
I wouldn't worry too much about the hardware. You can probably pick up some decent secondhand precision pickups from here, which would probably improve the sound. If you're happy with the playability of the bass, no point in changing the neck etc. Nige.
So you think it wouldn't be a waste of time trying to make it better? Coz someone told me it would be pointless and a waste of money so I was a bit meh on it Plus do you think it would be worth changing the bridge?

I still have my starter bass laying around, its a Gigsby P-Bass that cost like £90 at most. It has amazing playability and im a little attached to it but...it simply cant stand up to my basses I have now. Since its so cheap all the parts to make it are going to be cheap, is there any point in investing in upgrades to make it any better? Like will upgrades (Pick-ups, Bridge, Maybe a new neck) actually make it any better or because its so cheap would it just be a lost cause?

Thanks for the advice I will take that into consideration =]
no it shouldn't do. another option if you would rather not drill permanent holes is to just use some double sided tape to stick it on. that way you can remove it and have it just like new.
Oh wow i never thought of that! How effective is that? Like it wouldn't fall off in the middle of a gig or something? =P
I put a set of Ernie Ball Group III flat wounds on mine and liked it even more.....great basses.
What kinda sound and tone did that give with flat wounds on it? I was considering putting flat wounds on there. Also anyone know what would be a good bridge to put on it? one that will fit without too much trouble.
Yes, it's possible. You'll need to obtain a suitable pickguard, screws, and you'll have to drill pilot holes in your bass in the appropriate places.
Ahh cool will it effect the way the bass plays/sounds or anything at all?

I am going to be acquiring a Yamaha BB414, i love the look of them but i would love to attach a pickguard to it, like the BB414x. Is it possible to attach one to a bass that hasnt been designed to have one fitted?
Yesterday, I gave up my Squier Vintage Modified P-bass...and got the Pete Wentz signature bass instead. I'd had my eye on it for a while - the perlescant red pickguard and maple neck caught my eye!! Plus it got such good reviews from everyone who's ever played one. The only problem was, my local guitar shop couldn't seem to get hold of one for me! Normally I'd just buy online, but I like to play instruments before I shell out several hundred pounds on them, and I'm fairly loyal to that shop. Anyway, I got the VM P-bass instead, even though I really don't like white. They finally got the Wentz bass in last week. It was the hardest decision of my life! The VM had really grown on me (and didn't have that stupid bat decal...), but the sound that thing can produce and the slightly slimmer jazz neck on the PW swung it (and that damn pickguard too!) and I ended up trading. I figure if (when!) I get really good and actually start to play gigs, I can mod it to hell and back too Plus, I'll be a better bassest than him as I'll actually be PLAYING LIVE, rather than jumping round the stage like an idiot flailing my arms around X3 So what do people think? Have I done the right thing?
Yea iv heard really good reviews too at the PW Bass but iv also seen just as good reviews about the VM P-bass. I think its a pretty fair trade actually but i would of held on to the VM P-bass just simply coz i couldn't handle knowing that as much as its a great bass the fact thats its Pete Wentz's bass would just eat away at me lol. Quality wise there is nothing in it i think it comes down to personal choice really. If i could strip the paint work off the PW bass and replace it with my own i would choose the PW Bass too i think. Put it this way you haven't got any less of a bass by trading =]
Changing the pick ups and pre amp would be your first port of call if you want to improve the tone. However, if you love every bit of it do you really need/want to change it?
Yeh i see your point but im someone who if i think there is room for improvement i will do it. Plus this is not definite im going too this is more of a guide for future references and just for me to see any possible options i have if you get me? What pickups/pre amp would you suggest?

I really want a P-bass again since i miss having one! Which would you say is better? The CV P-bass or the VM P-bass?
-
The CV Squier are a great range of good quailty built basses and provided that the seller's reserve is not overly estimated, a good conditions P Squier should stay withing the £150-£180, if it goes any higher you get close to the new price range £230-£250 depending on what good a deal you might get from a retailer.
Cool thanks for that.
The CV Jazzes are amazing for the money, how much us he asking?
currently bidding its at £87 but hasnt met its reserve yet so god knows how much it would actually cost.

I have a Tanglewood Rebel 5K i salvaged from a friend a while back, it was a little beaten up, (bridge is rusty, dust got in under the pick ups and wire came loose in the input.) and yet the thing still worked! God knows how but anyway iv completely revamped it got the electronics sorted cleaned it all up and replaced the bridge and works a treat now. Only problem is i dont use 5 strings very often and its getting in my way a bit and i want to sell it, I just have no idea how much it would be worth or anything. Could anybody help me with this?
+ 1 on the "you can't go far wrong with a Yamaha" comments. I have one of these : a BBG4AII - which you don't see many of in the UK. This one (link) is for sale in Hungary I think, but it's the same colour as mine and I'm not at home to use my own pics! http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http...um=1&itbs=1 I ordered it through Sound Control in Wilmslow, and it's fantastic for the money (about £350 I think in 2001). They come up occasionally on eBay for about £100 - £150, which to my mind is 'bite your hands off' money. Very Fender like, but a bit different too - if that makes sense! Have you checked out BC'er Oggy's BB414 in the For Sale thread? - It looks a cracking bass from the pic's. Cheers A
Oh wow that is a pretty nice bass, how does it play and how does it feel? Im gona deff look out for one on ebay for the price too it looks really good =]

Ahh cool thanks for that =]
i think you'll have to draw your own conclusions... i'll...get me coat, eh ?
Yeh i didnt notice my mistake =P

The way i seen it was if Yamaha are good enough for a legend like Billy Sheehan then they are good enough for me =P
