1. I am 56 with shoulder length dyed blond hair, false teeth, glasses and wrist supports. I feel like a dodgy eBay Fender. "Honest Gov', I'm an original 1955".
2. This would suit me with all the bum notes I play.
3. I have RA and started looking for a lighter bass and I also think that the SR500 is a great bass and so light, very high on my GAS list.
4. That is a really nice tone on the bass, was that the WAL?
5. OK, Would you rather you were a musician in a...... A. A originals band? B. A tribute band. There's only one way to find out. FIGHT.
6. I would support a status bar showing either "for sale" "sold" etc compulsory as I waste a lot of time reading the same threads because my memory is shot.
7. 1955 P Bass, a fine vintage, wish I could afford one.
8. I'm glad it's not just me then, I thought that I was being over critical of the 'Bird but it felt so wrong to me. I've never played another bass that I felt so disappointed with.
9. For as long as I have played the bass, I have always gassed for a Gibson Thunderbird but just never got round to getting one. Well, yesterday I tried one for the first time and bloody hated it. . I loved the tone but it just felt so wrong for me so it's back to the old P-bass. I feel gutted as I really felt that this would be bass heaven for me. What a bummer. Have you ever had the same experience with your dream bass?
10. I'm looking for a special bass for my 60th birthday and I think this is it. Please hold it for me for 4 years.
11. You Lucky basstard, great site.
12.
Gig went amazingly well for our first gig, nailed everything! Felt like i gigged last week and hadn't lost any stage presence i'll try and get some videos up if any were taken! Oh and the vass terror performed very very well! Plenty of volume and tone for days.
Sounds frightening. German band is it? Glad it went well, you can't get a better feeling (almost) than having a sound you are happy with and really enjoying the gig.
13.
Oddly enough.... I was rehearsing at SoundBase studios in Wellington & what did I see?..... One of these Jedsons in cream!!.... bizarre! ...it was soo small!.... could hardly get my fat fingers to fit the frets!.... took me back a bit! it had them black tape wound strings on it.... weren't they called tru-bass?
That was my first bass to. Played a lot of gigs with it before getting a Ricky fretless. What a contrast.
14. I liked your last clips when you fitted the East, can't wait to hear it in anger now that you have had time to fall in love with it.
15. Back in the early '70's, I had a Marshall slop fronted 4x15 cab, monster sound and built like a tank and weighed the same. It took 2 to carry it, I shudder to think of it as the half of a stack. No wonder I I'm clapped out now. Light weight cabs would have been bliss.
16. Thanks to the OP for bringing up this topic, it's made me go back and listen to Weather report again. It's been a while and it still get me. great stuff. And I love a good Burp.
17.
Jaco's "burp" in all it's glory. The guy deserves respect from each and every member of BC
Well said Sir.
18. Well I'm a fan. When I saw him with the Floyd at Wembley, I thought he brought new dynamics to the music and I would love to have his talent and CV. I don't think you get the gigs he has played if he had acted like a dick.
19. First Bass - Jedson Telecaster shaped short scale bass. (Jap Crap). Go to Bass- - Fender P USA '57RI My Bass - Fender P USA '57 RI
20. I had a Washburn Status 1000 for years, loved the feel and it always was in tune. The only disadvantage of headless basses is there is nowhere to put you fag Clapton style.
21. I've been down the same position in the past and found that local practice studios were the best option. If you want your "near "gigging tone and volume and want to get on without hassle from the neighbours, it's great. I have found that on Sunday mornings, the studios were cheaper that the afternoon, so win/win with the locals and your drummer. Remember, your neighbours could become paying punters at your gigs if you get it right so they end up paying for your studio time.
22. Are these the same or a different manufacturer? http://www.dawsons.co.uk/acatalog/Farida_Bass_Guitars.html
23.
I can't get my head around the concept of describing Help! as a blues song. That is just plain weird. Go with Geoff & Homer (above) if you're after classic, pure blues. Fleetwood Mac especially are a treasure trove of late 60's /early 70's British blues, or you could go back a bit further and try some Chickenshack. If you want a rather rockier version of the blues, check out stuff like The Doors and The Allman Brothers Band, maybe some early Johnny Winter or even The Groundhogs. But if you want blues played with real style, for me it has to be Freddie King.
+1 All these bands are influences on my playing and my love for the blues. Check out Albert King and Albert Collins.
24.
Totally agree! That's why he's so in demand I guess...he really can polish a turd! I'm being harsh to show off, but it's a little bit true...
Spot on, thanks for the playlist. I'll be giving my workmates something it think about when I plug my laptop into their stereo. I think Pino can fit into any gig and look like he's been there for years. Top Banana.
