Ha Ha reminds me of a few years ago , at a gig I was spotted by the best mate of an Ex , who decided ... she would essentially leap onto my lap without me noticing. The look from my Mrs who was sat on a sofa opposite could have melted the poor girl into goo. Dina still hates that pub to this day.
My wife actually KNOWS the woman in question and is actually FRIENDS with her!!! She finds the whole incident HILARIOUS and has even visited said woman since and told her the tale (of which she remembers NOTHING apparently) Im still shaking!! To quote a line from Bladerunner "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe"
Went down well with the punters and didn't annoy the LL? You've sold out mate.

If that's the worst thing that ever happens to you at a gig, you'll be a very very lucky man
Fair comment but you really don't understand the shock!! the horror!!!
This is disappointing. You didn't annoy the LL?
The polar opposite.

I'm still traumatised from a drunk woman hitching her skirt up and sitting on my lap pre-gig! Much to the amusement of my wife!!! We went down well in front of a packed house but the shock! the horror!!!!
70's porn soundtrack? Jeesh, that takes me back... But lounge funk, astro slime mix, is making a welcome comeback. Where are you gigging next? I don't want to miss it
We're certainly not lounge funk but next gig is this Saturday (25th) at the Victoria Inn in Northampton, we're very honored to be sharing the stage with the Very Reverend D.Wayne Love from Alabama 3, https://www.facebook.com/maggieandlucylyrical and https://www.facebook.com/JonoAndTheUkeDealers?fref=ts

Another great warm up gig last night with Curtis E Johnson and our drummer Glenn, serving up some cunning funk to the (very few) people of the Hart of Duston a.k.a The Rifle Butt in Northampton. Was great to see a few friendly, familiar faces and even better to see a few confused faces too, as per norm. None quite as confused, tired and emotional as the slurring, staggering young man who told our drummer about his own drum kit that was way more impressive than the one he was setting up. "I've got 14 cymbals, 2 kick drums, can I have a go on your kit mate?" Anyway, Glenn being the friendly chap that he is, let said dude have a go on his kit briefly and he let rip with an AMAZINGLY fluent rendition of drums being thrown down stairs with unreserved vigour and gusto.. I was personally glad when he f*cked back off to the bar, only to come back again an hour later (when we're mid set) to try and get Curtis' guitar from him so he could "Play something chilled" I noticed a f***ing HUGE flea in his ear as he scuttled off NOT to return again.. there's ALWAYS one isn't there boys and girls??? The "gig" went well though and I even noticed a couple of local folk busting moves to our grooves grin emoticon I was in quite high spirits as I bowled over to the landlady to get one last free lime & lemonade before we left and even quite surprised when she all of a sudden seemed quite interested in us and asked me "So how long have you been doing this for??" to which I replied "Not that long actually, Why? Did you like it tonight??" to which she replied "Not really, no" Another all round success. We're gradually moving our way West and will be playing at the Victoria Inn in Northampton on the 25th April for a certain Mr Graham Cousins (of local label Grass Roots Records infamy) birthday bash with local band Jono Bell and his Uke Dealers and Maggie & Lucy Lyrical Peace.
There's your problem, then. If you'd had a singer - possibly a plump middle-aged lady in a cerise camisole top - they'd have loved you. Schoolboy error, that. Try advertising on bandmix or joinmyband before you go out again. No need to thank me.
Should have to spoke to you first man, damn! anorexic looking and middle aged is SO last year
TBH, I can see both sides of this debate. Once or twice over the years I've turned up to what was supposed to be an enjoyable gig for everyone, only to discover a bizarrely hostile landlord and a cast of early evening punters who look at you with murder in their eyes as you walk through the door. Determined to entertain, you ignore the scowling, muttering local Cuthberts, set up like lightning and kick off with a good 'un. You finish the song to dead silence - then a single cry of 'You're sh*t, f*ck off'. At half time the landlord slouches over. 'I don't know why I booked you. They hate bands here. I won't be able to pay you.' Then he goes off upstairs to watch TV. A hasty band conference agrees you do the second set at twice light speed with everything set to twelve. Fifteen minutes later the singer - inspired by tradition - sits down on the edge of the stage and sneers 'Ever had the feeling you've been swindled?'. It's worth it, just for the look on their neanderthal faces. The only problem now is getting out without being killed.
Spot on , excpet we have no singer

Next new thread I make I swear i'll leave my sense of hunour at the door.
Not to different from my band. We also make music. The only slight difference is, we also make money. Blue
I sincerely wish you and your band all the very best for the future.
I was pretty sure you weren't being paid.....i can sense these things
Yeh I make music, not money
And what do you do with your other hand?
Skin up

@ Subbeh : we didn't 'empty' the pub as such , people left ( and yes, this was to my amusement) but it certainly didn't 'empty' The person paying us didn't seem annoyed in the least because we didn't get paid.. We agreed last week to play 2 sets of our original material for free, to add a little spice to the pubs 'Beer festival' that they were holding that day.. purely out of the kindness of our hearts as for artistic intergrity..................................???
Sometimes you have to ensure you won't get asked back and you employed those methods admirably.....for that i applaud you
this ^ I thank you
-
When asked to turn it down, we turn it down. When asked to tone it down, we tone it down. We don't challenge the people that are paying us. Blue
Kudos to you friend. Your professsionalism is admirable.
-
The LL ask the drummer if you guys could "tone it down a bit" and he said "No" That's hilarious! That's something I've always wanted to say, but since I'm in this for the money I can't. We can't afford to alienate the people that hire us. When an LL ask us to turn down, we turn down. We want to be re-booked. Blue
'Tone' it down is a different thing entirely to 'Turn' it down.. Just sayin'
