One caveat / 'thing to watch' (that I've just thought of) would be to ensure that the input on your tascam is a mono jack (I presume this is the case) and not a stereo one just to make sure the signal is getting to the right bit of the jack to suit it...
Good call! I've checked the specs for the Tascam and the line-in sockets are designed for TRS-jack (balanced), so I'm guessing that's a stereo jack lead. In which case this cable should do the job - ? Cheers, Paul

Cheers Andy! And thanks for the quick reply

I work pretty much exclusively 'inside the box' using software, so I'm a total dunce when it comes to wiring up anything in the real world... hence this call for help Ok, so I have a new combo amp that features a balanced XLR output socket (male: with three prongs). I want to use this to connect the amp to my audio interface - a Tascam US144-mkII, which features standard 1/4 inch jack input sockets. So... my question is, can I use a standard microphone cable to connect the XLR output on the amp to the jack input on the interface? I.e. a female XLR to 1/4" jack lead, like this one. Or do I need some other kind of XLR to jack cable? Cheers!
This becoming an early morning ritual for me - 233
Likewise I feel like the guy in Lost who had to keep re-setting the numbers each day to prevent the bomb, or whatever it was, from going off... Click! -
Good tip Si! I have a Behringer C-1, which is cheap and very cheerful, but that Thomann SC140 looks well worth spending an extra tenner on.

Sorry for the delay on this - it's silly season at work! - but we'll be launching a new mix competition next week. If anybody has any burning desires for a particular track or genre then let us know. Otherwise I have a Plan B and C up my sleeve Cheers, Paul

^ Nice one Lurks! I've only had a quick listen on my phone but I have to commend Lurksalittle on the vocal. Very good indeed. To everyone else (myself included): don't forget that the deadline for entries is this Saturday. Well... it'll be whenever I get up on Sunday, fix breakfast for Mrs Skol and Junior, slug a coffee and get on the computer. So latecomers probably have a window of opportunity until Sunday morning

Superb! Thanks for the feedback guys. Very reassuring to get a thumbs up on these from fellow BC 'ers Cheers, Paul

Does anyone here have experience of ordering a custom-made amp cover from this company? http://amplifiercoversonline.com They seem to produce covers to order for just about every kind of amp. Prices look ok-ish too.
I hate being the party pooper; however, I took a stroll through some of the other 'projects' there. There are several at over 2000, and one at over 4000. I didn't have the courage to look further; there may be higher counts yet in there. Any IP 'bot experts here..? Otherwise it's going to be a real task to climb to the top...
Poop indeed ... that's some tough competition. I've just read the terms of the prize and apparently it's not just being decided on votes - there's also a judges' decision as to whether the entries are 'worthy' in terms of benefiting members of the local community (which I'd argue Paul's is: it's about helping a relatively new local business to acquire new skills). So there's hope. But I reckon we need to get at least over 1000 votes to be a serious contender of any sorts, based on those 2000/4000 vote frontrunners. If anyone's willing to plug this via their own social media then please do, as now's the time! -
Just sold Mike a VOX amPlug headphone amp. Very nice guy to deal with! Quick payment, quick replies to messages and all round a good bloke. Trade with confidence. Paul

Two more votes from me. Am I weird for finding this therapeutic? There's something satisfying about clicking the button and watching the number get a +1. Yeah, thought so... nurse, it's time for my sleepy sweets! -
I think there are many people, myself included, who would laugh at the notion of Kanye West in any way being a true reflection of contemporary hip hop. It's like holding up McBusted as being mascots of the rock scene. Or Jamie Cullum personifying jazz. Maybe Kanye IS hip hop to people who don't listen to the genre. In which case, I strongly recommend broadening your musical horizons a little. It's a healthy thing to do

Basschat Competition Bass (13 Guitar Co.) - CONCLUSION!
Looks really nice!
Thanks Steve! Credit to Paul for the design, of course. I love it... very distinctive and original. I had a quick noodle on the bass it's modelled on (the original black 5'er - there's photos of it on his website) and it played really well. Great balance and nice easy reach of those upper frets. I'll keep y'all updated as it gets finished. -

^ I like that Douglas. Mrs Skol is a keen knitter so I may hint at a Jaco hat for Xmas Other than that... Put me down for a Basschat one! Great idea and I'm sure they'd be popular. -

Seiko DM-20 Digital Metronome A handy little pocket-size metronome featuring:

Small jack output (for headphones)
Auditive and visual signal (bleeps and flashes)
Adjustable rhythm
Very easy to use. Comes with a transparent plastic case. Battery included. What more could you want? Price: £10 (postage included) via PayPal. Here's a fascinating YouTube video that demonstrates this bad boy in action... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2fSjD-8Mjs

VOX AmPlug Bass A palm-sized headphone amp that plugs directly into your bass jack input. Attach a pair of headphones and you're away! Features:

A tube-like tone modeled on VOX's classic AC100 bass amp
Compressor/overdrive switch
AUX input jack for plugging in an iPod or other device for jamming along
FET buffer circuit for improved dynamic range
Approximately 15 hours of playing time with two AAA batteries (included)
Dimensions: W/D/H 86 x 80 x 31mm I've found this little unit to be very useful for practicing at home late at night and/or in front of the telly (without risk of tripping up family members with amp and jack leads!). It's also great if you're on the move and packs easily into a gig bag or hard case. This is one of the Japanese models. It's in mint condition but without the original packaging. Sound samples are available on the VOX website (scroll down to find the 'AmPlug Demos' and look for the Bass Demos 1-3). Price: £25 (postage indluded) via PayPal.

I don't have any experience of Linux myself, but as far as I know you can run various software in Linux using WINE. For example: here's a link on how to set up Reaper to run on Linux: http://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_run_Reaper_in_Wine_on_Linux Hope that helps!
AFAICS it's done by cookies. I was able to vote again from the same computer simply by using a different browser. Also on my desktop I use Firefox as my development browser and it is set to purge everything on quit. I was able to vote twice in succession by quitting and then reloading the browser. Go mad...
Nice one Mike, handy to know it's clocked using cookies.
120. So, the BC effect is definitely working. Positive result, needs to be kept up. Nice one, folks; well done. Another salvo tomorrow, then.
Indeed! Slow and steady wins the race... Cheers everyone. Let's keep it up. -
Recommended practice amps? (100W / 15" or thereabouts)
Skol303 replied to Skol303's topic in Amps and Cabs
Cheers! I think it's going to tick all the boxes in terms of what I need. I haven't managed to find one in a shop to try it out, but I found this review from basschat's own 'Dood' very useful (although it's for the 60W version - but still close enough): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vyQa0VyWt4 -
I would highly recommend the EBS Classic Session 120 combo... There is one on eBay (not mine) for £150 at the moment.
Not any more. It's now mine! Cheers for the tip. I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces once it arrives in a week or so.
