1. So not really a moan about SoundCloud... but your home internet speed. I have a fairly standard home connection (TalkTalk) and it takes about 10 minutes or less to upload a 50-60Gb file to SoundCloud. Not trying to rub salt in the wound here; just saying that it shouldn't be taking anywhere near as long as you're reporting. Contact your Internet provider and give them some stick
 2.
I can envisage "woohoo" Blur type stuff, sad songs about the death of a dog, free jazz epics celebrating the randomness of snow drifts, struttin' disco grooves about "having a good time, all the time" (copyright Spinal Tap!), or acoustic ballads about being scared stupid!
Immediately made me start hearing something akin to the French band, Air. Sort of light and spacey, poppy electro stuff. Not sure if that's what I'm going to gun for, but it's what I'm humming whilst sat at work
 3. Just finished mine! Thought I'd get in early this month: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa3w_zfVqhY What do you mean it sounds familiar? Pure coincidence.
 4.

Here you go. This is apparently the actual photo of Mornats handing the Supercharger plug-in over to Mr Smalls (obtained via Reuters news agency). Good to see they both made the effort and scrubbed up for the occasion, eh! Well done, good show!
 5.
Can I assume that there'll be an appropriate hand-over ceremony, with speeches, ribbon cutting and light refreshments, for the Official Prize-Giving..? Not sure I'll be available to attend, though; [s]busy social calendar, doncha know..?[/s] can't get further than a few yards at the moment. On the same subject, has anyone dared to tell Ped yet that there was a tie for silver..? I'm sure he won't want one of those great polos cut in half (yes, they are great; I really am wearing mine right now..!); I hope his pockets are deep enough to cover the extravagance..!
All in hand. Worry ye not I'll let Mornats and Mr Smalls organise a prize ceremony of their own choosing. Polo Shirts are being arranged for fingers211 and Bleat.
 6. VOTING HAS STARTED!
It's really noticeable with isolated tracks like this, how different people mute between the notes, play passing notes, grace notes, vary their attack etc. Asides from note choice, playing in time, hitting the groove etc... I really enjoy hearing the little subtle nuances different players use that can make a good bassline sound great I doubt any of us even think about it, it's just the natural variation in our playing styles that makes us sound different as bass players...
Absolutely! Good call Rob. Makes me feel a bit 'naked' just posting up an isolated bass track... but it's also a very useful exercise. I get to hear all of the things I need to improve, laid bare. I also get to hear other people's nuances in a similarly stark light, which gives me ideas for experimenting with different tones and 'voices' by adjusting my own playing. All good. They also make for enjoyable listening! I know we always tend to knock the bass as "not being a solo instrument", but it can hold attention under the right circumstances. And certainly in the confines of 60 seconds...

 10. Phew... noodled! http://soundcloud.com/skol-mixes/noodle-02 Cort Rithimic V bass (which I'm really loving), recorded using a Real Tone cable direct into my laptop using Audacity. The cable is in fact anything but 'Real Tone'... it's pretty crappy and intended for use with the Rocksmith video game, which incidentally is a lot of fun. But it enabled me to noodle this from my sofa after putting the kids to bed and finishing some paperwork. So that's cool. I'm now off for some Zzzz's, so I'll post up the voting thread in the morning. Cheers all
 11.
Any last minute noodles?
I'm planning on quickly recording something tonight! More funky shiz from me this month, most likely. I've also been trying to learn Teen Town, but I'm not up to speed with it yet.
 12.
If chaos is a system, we're not far short. If random is reason, then this is finely structured. It comes across, to me, as a heteroclite assembly of unconnected tones, glitches and effects, sewn together with thin, frayed lace. I can't find much in the way of saving grace so, sorry, I'll leave it there.
Haha, brilliant! Cheers Dad. I’m guessing your record collection doesn’t start with A for Aphex Twin, does it? Cut’n’pasted for posterity.
 13. VOTING ENDS AT MIDNIGHT! It's a close call too. Exciting... in a 'watching a slow game of cricket' sort of way If you haven't yet voted, please do. We can do better than n-n-n-n-nineteen in total, surely.
 14. Sooo many Christmases in your house Rob! I'm jealous Lovely looking bass. I really dig the colour. I actually like the headstock too (and your scatter cushions, for that matter). Is this the one you used for this month's Noodle Bar? (just checked - it is! Obviously you knew that). Sounds very nice too. Good score.
 15.
You need the space & the quiet to be able to do this though...
That is true. Our house is often hectic but I'm lucky to have a space set aside where I can make music, which is a big help (allows me to work at it whenever I get chance - even the odd 10 minutes here and there).
 16.
Does anyone else ever feel a little depressed sometimes about not playing the sort of music you'd really like to be playing/creating?
In a word: no! ...but then I'm probably off kilter to many here in that I don't create music by playing in a band - I do so at home, in my own time, on my own terms, collaborating with people I like working with, when I choose to do so. My music gets played, sometimes even paid for. And none of my listeners (nor even my collaborators) know what I look like. It's like a double life alongside my day job. Which suits my circumstances perfectly. Those are the benefits, for me, of being an antisocial, isolationist, musical hermit I known this approach is the antithesis to what many of you seek from playing gigs (it's obviously nothing like live performance). But you could very easily consider it an option in addition to playing gigs... if you're in need of creative satisfaction that you're not finding elsewhere. There's then the option of taking your best material and forming a band to go and play it out, which is what I plan on doing once the kids are a little older. There are so many ways to make music these days. I've written tracks using the phone I'm typing on now. So don't let a lack of fellow musicians get in your way. Just DIY!
 17. Keep the votes coming folks! More is always merrier
 18.
I really like the Babicz bridge, it's a fantastic bit of engineering...
+1. I have a Babicz on my Cort fiver and it's a mighty fine bridge. As you say, nowt to do with 'sustain' and all that guff... but everything to do with it being a nicely engineered lump of metal. I'd highly recommend them on that basis. But perhaps not for all basses
 19.
Nice playing. You nailed that '70s funk vs. 90s hip-hop' thing..
Thanks! I barely had to add any after-FX to the bass track. Just an old P-bass with flats and some compression. Job done
Thanks for the info. Interesting approach.
No probs. I don't play in a band, so all of my collaborative work is carried out remotely, making contacts and swapping files online. Works for me - I'm otherwise too busy/lazy to commit to weekly band practices and that sort of thing. So it lets me work with other people whilst sat in my grundies at home. Skype optional
Well done Paul, I'll have a proper listen in the morning, via my headphones
Cheers Gary! I recommend downloading the FLAC version of the track - it's by far the best quality.
 20.
I am pretty sure if someone created a plug in called 'Turd Polisher' it would get used every month by me
I love the Internet Check this out: http://www.sfxmachine.com/tppro/ PS: I am in no way affiliated with this product.

 22.
Enjoyed it, congratulations on the release.
Cheers and thanks for having a listen!
I'm interested, can I have my old Fender P now, please? Congratulations Paul, great playing and production work as always - like the humour in it, too. Good luck.
Thanks Mark, much appreciated! I kept the baseline simple, but I think it suits the track (the brief was to create something that sounded "old school", so I aimed for a "90s-hip-hop-sampling-70s-funk" sort of thing). Donnie and POT-C's lyrics always have a touch of humour... and no swearing. PG rated, mother******! PS: you still can't have my P-bass.
Thanks for sharing. Liked it. How did you get involved in that ?
I've known Donnie (one of the rappers) for a couple of years after collaborating with him via SoundCloud. We've kept in touch since. I'm not sure how he got involved in the blocSonic label. He's big into the Creative Commons thing - making music that can be shared, downloaded, broadcast with no strings attached, which is what this particular label is all about. Short story: I just like pimping myself around SoundCloud and elsewhere, collaborating with whoever is interested in doing so. It gets me working with all kinds of different people and on rare occasions I get a release like this one
 23. Yeah, I know this really belongs in the Share Your Music forum, but I’m going to hoist myself by my own petard and post it here instead… what the heck, it’s Good Friday, I’m pumped on chocolate eggs and very excited So yeah, I have a single out today on blocSonic (a US-based net label). And I even got paid to put this one together. Amazing. It’s an old school hip hop jam with two guys from Brooklyn, New York: Donnie Ozone and POT-C. Arrangement, production and bass guitar by yours truly (an old Fender P for anyone interested). Free download here: http://blocsonic.com/releases/bsuni0002 Hope you dig it and happy Easter!
