Just as matter of interest, would it possible to submit more than 1 piece of music?
Yep, you'd be welcome to submit more than one entry! It's never been done before and might cause a black hole to open in space time, swallowing the Earth into a 4th dimension ruled by parallel clones of the Chuckle Brothers. But on your head be it
i didn't even see a voting page for the last one. or was that relocated?
Hi Rob. We've starting pinning the voting threads in General Discussion to help give the challenge a little more 'exposure'. Here's a link to April's: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/260678-april-composition-challenge-voting/

WELL DONE LOWDOWN! Great track We have a really fun picture for this month's challenge. I'll post it up as soon as I get on my computer later today (currently rattling this out on my phone...). Watch this space. Or go do something useful in the meantime.

A quick update on this project, involving myself and other members of the Basschat community (namely 51m0n and urb). The band in question is J-Sonics led by Mike Flynn (urb); the mixing is by yours truly; the mastering by Simon Naish (51m0n). The audio work is now nearly finished and the release date will be announced fairly soon. In the meantime, here's a trio of videos giving a flavour of what's to come... hopefully proof that we don't only come here to talk about GAS and which bass is best for metal Push http://www.youtube.com/watch?t=23&v=lWaUNWWC3N4 Casa Forte http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVG-MhGkqKg Samba House http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VjcQhFc5kg Comments very welcome.

To paraphrase: "This is my bass. There are many like it, but this one is mine."
It doesn't look as if I'll be able to do my revues this month, as I'm a bit off-colour
Wishing you good health, comrade. Rest up and take things easy.
No colds or flus in your house then.
Nope. Just curiously luminous orange urine! (if you've ever taken Berocca you'll be familiar with this particular phenomenon...).
-
Definitely some crystal meth abuse goin on in the skol household.
Currently nothing stronger than Berocca multivitamins… which I like to crush into a powder and mainline one packet at a time
I'm confused. The post says March's composition challenge, and the image isn't the "Funk" image that I thought it was.
Fixed! My bad. It’s definitely April

Fin! ...I'm currently mixing a very beautifully played jazz album in my spare time, so this is what I might call a 'palette cleanser'. Whereas most of you will consider it more a 'dirty protest' Military snares (sampled from a copyright free recording of a US marching band, playing the titular "Crazy Army") very hastily slung together with a MIDI drum track and squelchy acid basslines. http://soundcloud.com/skollob/crazy-army Mix sounds wooly on my cans, but meh, no time for spit and polish this month. It is what it is! I'll post up the voting thread tomorrow morning. Well done everyone! Very much looking forward to listening to them all

G’day all. A quick post to call ‘last orders’ on this month’s compositions! The deadline for entries is this evening at midnight… but I won’t be launching the voting thread until tomorrow morning (Friday), so you have all night if you’re keen to while away the wee hours in pursuit of creative greatness. I'm hoping to put something together for it this evening when I get home. Slapdash is the word
I rotate between a fretless 34" and a fretted 31" at gigs and I must say it irritates the hell out of me as everything's in a different place. I must find a solution!
Get a 5-string!!
-
Very generous! Good call

I've been distracted over Easter with DIY and decorating duties... just checked in here and wow, some of you have been busy! Good to see some new faces too. Welcome guys. These challenges are as addictive as chocolate Hobnobs... once you start, you can't stop
-
I just like the additional options of a 5-string. I don't find myself playing the sub-E notes any more often than I would the low notes on a four string. I like playing across the neck - I find it easier and quicker. And I like the option of being able to drop the occasional bowel-shaking B to Eb into my playing whenever I choose. And I like a bowel-shaking low end in my music... some of you four string guys just sound as though you're a little, err, constipated
-
I am not sure Bach and many of his old wig wearing drinking pals did any original recordings.....
Good point I should rephrase it to say don't go sampling from any commercial recordings - Halle Orchestra's Greatest Hits, etc. Performing any out of copyright piece yourself is all fair game.

That's a useful little test! My results sit pretty much in the middle between "Normal Hearing" and "Mild Hearing Loss", ranging from 5-15db hearing levels. That's me taking the test at home with our four year old busily playing the background So better than I'd thought. I do have mild tinnitus. I've suffered from various ear infections over the years; plus I sent my youth frequenting noisy gigs and clubs. Less so these days - and I now always use ear protection. Most of the time I don't notice it, but it's apparent in quiet environments. Thankfully not something I lose sleep over.
