1.
It's bound to sound stomach-churningly good, as I'll be using THESE to power the headphones...
At least they're able to see the funny side. Looks like nice gear too.
 2.
Just out of interest, is it within the rules to take a relatively well-known classical piece (played badly by me!) and muse on it? Hope so as that's what I've done so far! And Napoleon isn't involved, it's Russian all the way - though 60 odd years later...
Technically fine, providing you don't sample any sections of the original piece (ie. lift them wholesale from the original recording). It's not strictly in the spirit of these challenges - the intention being to write new compositions of our own - but heh, go for it
 3. ^ Cheers Si, pearls of wisdom as always from you mate. What you're recommending chimes exactly with the advice I've been getting from the guys at both GIK and Blue Frog. I'm currently undecided as to whether I'll adopt the DIY approach and make own bass traps, or splash some cash on ready-made ones. What's left in my budget once the room is finished will largely decide the route I take. Again, cheers for the info
 4. April's challenge is on! CLICK HERE We've got a nicely different image this month. Good choice by our Lord the Sausage!
 5. April’s Composition Challenge is now underway! Here’s the image for your inspiration, chosen by last month's winner Lord Sausage… And here are the rules 'n' stuff… By entering the competition you agree to the Basschat Terms & Conditions and Forum Guidelines, which are designed to help ensure the forum remains free of offensive and/or illegal behaviour and material. In a nutshell: 1) Please avoid any content that other forum users may find offensive. If your track contains explicit lyrics, for example, then please warn other forum users so they can choose for themselves whether to listen to it. 2) Please make sure you have permission to use any 3rd party sounds included in your track (ie. sounds that you have not recorded yourself, such as samples of other people's music). The owners of Basschat accept no responsibility for infringements of copyright or other forms of legal ownership, which are solely the responsibility of competition entrants. If we spot any breaches of copyright then your track will be removed from the competition. For reference: here's a great source of copyright-free material, all available under Creative Commons license: http://www.freesound.org/ 3) Entries should be no more than five minutes long and written/produced during the month of the competition, taking inspiration from the photo provided. No cheating! If you have any questions about the competition rules, just ask. The deadline for entries is midnight on Thursday 23rd April. Chaaaarrrge!!
 6. Well done Lord Saus'!! A great track and a deserving win Please message me with your choice of image and we'll launch April's challenge over in the Recording forum. PS: I'm currently away in Edinburgh with work so I might not get to launch the new thread until tomorrow evening. After which normal service will resume... Again, well done - and that applies to everyone. 14 tracks and I enjoyed every one of them. Sterling work!
 7.
It's good that the forum will get some valuable publicity. Kudos to Bluejay for the time and effort she'll be putting into an exercise which will benefit all of us by extension.
^ This in spades. Good work Sylvia!
 8.
Skol: really liked this especially the cool bass playing, and general feel of the track.
Thanks James, very kind!
 9.
Well done that man , did you get a reason for the withdrawal ?
No reason given... but I've confirmed that all is well in the world of McBass, so that's all good
 10. ^ Brilliant! Thanks as always Doug. Great review - as are they all. I really appreciate the effort you put into these and look forward to reading them each month. In my head they're always narrated by the voice of John Peel Cheers mate!
 11. ^ Nice one guys! Share your feel good stories here. In the past I’ve also been sent:

Some Fender strap lock washers by Ki0gan (I send him a guitar electronics book in exchange)
Some 70s P-bass control knobs (bought at a discount on eBay from a fellow BC’er)
A bass guitar by Paul at 13 Guitar co!!
…my cup runneth over
Very good! Whatever it is, can you get me some next time please??
Mark: now we've discussed this... my bra size just isn't compatible with your body shape. No fair, but no share. Sorry
 12. We’ve had a few low points in the Basschat camp of late. But the reason why I love this community is because the ups always outweigh the lows. As an example - a few weeks ago I posted this thread, asking for advice on how to fit guitar wall-hangers… http://basschat.co.uk/topic/258428-fitting-wall-hangers/ …not only did I receive plenty of good advice, but today I also received in the post:

Three wall-hangers (Hercules - exactly what I wanted!), courtesy of Bilbo
A packet of heavy-duty fittings and tailor-made instructions on how to use them, courtesy of Gelfin
All for FREE. Where else can you find this sort of kindness and generosity online?? Personally, I’ve never encountered it anywhere else - and I’ve belonged to a good number of music forums of the years. Truly, we have a bloomin’ great community of people here and I’m proud to be amongst y’all. Cheers everyone Paul
 13.
It might be worth deleting McBass voting option, I fear it might continue the confusion if he has withdrawn, or at least a note to say it has been withdrawn if it messes up the poll .
Ok, I'm going to try deleting McBass' track from the voting. There is a chance this may crash the poll and break the Internet! Wish me luck... EDIT: it worked! Phew
 14.
McBass ‘Hoodoo Voodoo’ won't play for me, throws up an error on soundcloud. Don't want to vote without hearing each track!
It's been deleted by McBass (also deleted from the original composition thread in the Rec forum). "Artist's perogative", etc. I'll drop him a message to check all's well...
 15. ^ Cheers guys I've since trawled GearSlutz and made plenty of notes. I'm also reading Rod Gervais' book' Home Recording Studio: Build it Like the Pros', which is proving useful, albeit some of it way too technical for my head. So far the room is nearly finished, in so far as the insulation (rock wool) and acoustic plasterboard is all up and skimmed, ready for decorating. I'm currently in touch with two companies: GIK Acoustics and Blue Frog Audio, about the acoustic treatment. Both of which are being very helpful with room diagrams, suggested treatments, information on likely room modes, etc. They're very similarly priced so far... Blue Frog are being especially helpful - I've had a few pages worth of 'free' advice already, so they might just be edging it. I've been advised against standard foam panels. The word is that they work fine for mid and high frequencies, but they're next to useless when it comes to low and subs (I'm aiming to treat the room down to 30Hz if possible). The simple rule for taming lows is that you need BIG units, so I'm looking at quite large, fabric-covered panels comprising a material similar to rock wool, only more dense. Ultimately, it's going to be dictated by budget... so I might opt for doing what I can, as best I can, for the time being - and then improving the treatment over time as my wallet refills. I'll y'all updated in case anyone is planning a similar project for themselves.
 16.
For your (and my) convenience, I just made a playlist on Soundcloud so you can listen to them all in a row https://soundcloud.c...s/basschatmarch
Brilliant! You must let me know how to do this... very useful
 17.
Omg... I'm so sorry. It didn't even cross my mind. Apologies.

No sweat , I have asked Skol to flag it up though , just in case .
All sorted - warning added For the record: explicit lyrics are fine - freedom of expression and all that - just give us a heads up about it so we can include a warning for anyone listening to these tracks with their family or at work, etc.
 18. PS: Really good to see so many entries this month. Some old veterans back amongst us. And some new faces too... welcome Pasco Jacorius and McBass!
 19.
I'm trying to vote but it's only letting me choose one. Am I doin something wrong?
No, you're not! I'd forgotten to tick a certain box whilst setting up the poll... Now fixed. Cheers the heads up

 22. Currently tied up at work (not literally!). I'll post the voting thread in General Discussion around lunchtime today. Drum roll please...
 23.
Just remembered another one. When someone says: 'I gave a 110% to make thing work' eh! Probably means you were only giving 70% before and now a wee bit more...let's say 80%
That one does bug me! 100% is optimum. 110% is just inefficient.
