1. Good call! ...and use a free service like Photobucket to host your images, instead of uploading them directly to Basschat. It's very easy and convenient. And it saves on bandwidth, helping to avoid the site bloating like an operatic tenor at a free buffet.
 2.
Ha ha....Dad & Skol, up there with Cagney & Lacy...lol.... You pair of eagle eyed terriers!
Or more like Turner & Hooch... bagsie I'm Turner (sorry Doug)
 3.
Ever so sorry folks.......I didn't read the guidelines :-) Please feel free to delete it...... Sorry.
Don't worry mate! It's a crackingly good track so thanks for sharing it. No sense in deleting it - in fact you might want to re-post it in the Share Your Music forum where it'll likely get a few more listens: http://basschat.co.uk/forum/95-share-your-music/ There's still plenty of time to write something for this month, so why not strap on that Ebow and get recording? Paul
 4.
I'm not sure the rules have been broken, as such; simply that Simon is mistaken...
Oh no... the rules have been broken and someone, somewhere, must pay the price for this fragrant disregard of authority! I mean, what would the world come to if we let such misdemeanors go unnoticed? It would be anarchy. Pure, unadulterated, Mohican-biker-gangs-with-crossbows-Mad Max style anarchy. And it could start right here. Not on my watch, Daddy-O! Not on my watch But in all seriousness, I'm sure Simon will be along in due course to shed light on it. If not, we'll break out the riot shields...
 5.
I'm not sure that Simon was really entering his excellent piece as part of the Challenge. It was posted to Soundcloud a couple of month's ago, and wasn't composed to match this month's pic. Perhaps he could confirm this..? Maybe it could be moved to its rightful place, in the Showcase..? There's still time to create a piece inspired by the pic, of course; you'd be more than welcome. The more, the merrier (within reason... It'll get difficult if there's a hundred or so entries..! )
Ahhh.... well spotted Detective Dad. If it's not written and recorded in the month of the challenge, then we have to rule it out. Shame, but "them's the rules!"
 6.
I'll have to take out the sousaphone solo then!
Ooh I do love a good sousaphone! Seriously... I've been watching the 'Treme' TV series recently, which features some gratuitous sousaphone action along with other great 'second line' parade and jazz music. Well worth a watch if you get chance.
 7.
Here is a composition using the Ebow. https://soundcloud.c...gmusic/ebow-mix I hope you enjoy it. Simon.
Hi Simon, that's great and well done for entering! These monthly challenges have few rules, but one we do try to enforce is ensuring that compositions are no longer than 5 minutes duration (see the info at the top of this thread). This sets a 'level playing field' for everyone and avoids risk of people submitting full symphonies, should they be tempted to do so I notice that your track is just over 6 minutes long. I'm happy to let it stand in this instance, but if you get chance please can you edit it down to under 5 minutes and post a new SoundCloud link in this thread. Otherwise, it's just something to bear in mind in future.
Most excellent! Does that mean I can get away with a long mix of my headache-inducing opus?
In a word: no! You've been around 'ere long enough to know better
 8. I'm clumsy with a pick but use one when I need that particular tone/attack. Otherwise, for 99% of the time I play fingers. Only because I find it easier.

 11.
Two fat ladies.
You've seen the photos, haven't you!?
 12. VOTED! Ahh... the luxury of now finally having an internet connection at home, and just in time Monsieur Douglas (Dad3353) got my vote this month. A brilliant track, bang on the theme, well produced and held my attention throughout. Very well deserved, sir! Credit also to comrades Leonard and The Boy. Good work guys. We were thin on the ground this month, numbers-wise, but the quality didn't drop an inch. I may not be up for the nail-biting finale at midnight (new address means keeping new hours), but whomever should win.... Doug... please message me with your choice of photo for the next one and I'll get it up and running in the morning. Cheers
 13. ANOTHER UPDATE! I have an Internet connection again - yay! And the deadline for entries is now this coming Thursday (7th August). Get busy
 14. Go for bubinga. On everything. Even the strings
 15. Last orders please! Voting ends tonight at midnight... get 'em in while you can
 16. UPDATE I've still got no Internet at home and can't launch the voting until I do... (as I need to upload the entries). So the competition is still open for a few days, until the lovely people at BT pull their fingers out of their whatsits and do the job their pay for
 17. My own faves have already been mentioned (especially Me'shell Ndegeocello and Carol Kaye). But I'll also add Este from Haim. She mostly gets talked about because of her captivating bass face... but I like how she's aware of that, doesn't give a sh*t and just gets on with the job of knocking out some solid b-lines. Good on her
 18. I knew the lads from Elbow (especially Guy) and Daman Gough (Badly Drawn Boy) before they hit the big time. All very hard-working musicians who had been on the Manchester scene for years (in the case of Elbow, a decade) before they got swept up and became household names. I'm not in touch with any of them these days - they've all moved down south or overseas - but it's always nice watching them on the telly and remembering hanging out at Night & Day Cafe, Big Hands and other Manchester venues 'back in the day'
 19. Well, I just managed to scrape something together this month between packing and unpacking boxes. I opted for a psychedelic route inspired by the likes of Mercury Rev and Butthole Surfers, bands I used to listen to a lot during my more wayward years. It was all recorded and mixed during a two hour session last Sunday with pretty much everything played in one take, warts and all. The lyrics took about five minutes to pen on the back of an envelope, and it shows Anyway, it was good fun throwing something together quick smart and relying on improvisation rather than preparation. Something I'll definitely try again. I haven't listened to any of the other tracks as yet - not Internet at home at the moment - so I have them to enjoy one lunchbreak at work this week. Cheers all!
 20. It's time to pick your favourite in this month's Composition Challenge. There are four track to choose from, each inspired by the image below. 23. UPDATE! Due to 'technical difficulties' (that being me currently having no Internet at home), voting will start sometime tomorrow - Tuesday 29th. Normal service will resume shortly...
