  1. This old Jazz bass is a ‘Crafted in Japan’ Model and the Fender serial decoder dates it to 1993 however some sites date it as a 1997 model. What you have here however is an exceptionally playable Jazz bass with a lovely slim neck. It’s light too at around 9lbs and balances perfectly. One of the criticisms of MIJ basses is that the pickups are weak, this bass benefits from a pair of US Fender pickups and in comparison to my 83’ JV Jazz they do have more gain.

As with all good basses this has been played and gigged a lot so has a lot of genuine road wear. There are dings and scuffs aplenty, touched up paint at the bottom of the instrument. There is also corrosion on the bridge, screws and top strap button (replaced straplock buttons) as well as tarnishing to the nickel plate tuners. Everything is solid and works as it ought to however. It really is a lovely bass - the neck has some dings to the headstock and a small chip behind the nut but no marks at the back or dings. It is a comfortable neck to play alas too slim at the nut for me hence the sale. It was filthy when I bought it a proper gig machine! No trades and UK only please.

There is an old case included.

  2. Aria Pro II Gibson Ripper Project

This is for sale only and will be a great restoration project for someone.

I’m selling as I’m restoring an old Hayman bass and need to fund a neck repair for it.

This Aria dates from the late 70s early 80s. Unlike a genuine Ripper it has a bolt on neck. The pickups on this are Epiphone humbuckers - obviously replacements. I got the covers from WD music to make them look more Ripper like! They are guitar pickups but work fine. The neck is in good condition with a working trussrod. The cover is missing and the nut has been replaced. Machineheads are original. Neck plate, body, neck and strap buttons are original. The bridge is too but it’s awful and I’ve noticed it has had a Fender style bridge installed at some point. I tried both and the Fender is an easier option so I will include a Squier bridge. The obvious issue is a missing scratchplate. You can order these from WD for £35 or make your own. The lovely ‘scratchplate’ attached was on it when I bought it.

I wouldn’t know if it were a rare bass but I’ve not seen many Ripper copies about. It’s a nice old thing for restoration and will be a good bass once sorted. I’m looking for what I paid for it including the parts I bought myself. No trades UK only. It plays ok when wearing strings. Thanks

Postage in UK at cost. I will send with neck removed.

  3. A rare Yamaha SB-50 Bass for sale from around 1973. This is a cool bass, well gigged but solid and sounding great. It has a medium scale and a distinctive German carve - or pie crust look. It’s all original but missing the bridge mute and pickup ashtrays. These appear to be quite collectible and crop up on Talkbass occasionally with the predictable daft prices on Reverb. It’s one of Yamaha’s first original basses and it’s quirky ‘Les Paul by Dali’ looks will make you stand out on stage! It’s also very red…..

It weighs around 4kgs sounds really very good from old school rock to modern tones. I was amazed by how versatile it is. Plays well and the neck is great too.

Not sure how to price it but it’s definitely a sale only and I won’t be sending it overseas - sorry. Let’s try £295 - certainly a change from a MIM Precision.
Note there is a crack on the lacquer in the body but this hasn’t effected neck stability.

My cat loves it! More pics to follow.

  4. Just be aware there is an element of BS in the ad - ie: these basses didn’t come fitted with flat wound strings as stock and sunburst was a common finish.
Well worth asking if there is a manufacture date pencilled on the neck butt underneath where the truss rod screw is accessed.

As ever have a look here for your JV questions....

Hi @ash as someone who’s interested in a jv jazz, but has never played one can you tell me a bit about the neck profile please? I’m used to the modern C shape so wondering if the 62 profile will feel ‘fat’ or more like a P just narrower? Thanks

My JV is much slimmer than the equivalent P bass. It’s a nice manageable neck not clubby or fat at all. The JV P Bass had a good neck too of course however if you are a fan of Jazz basses you can’t go wrong with the JV.

  6. They are very nice instruments and are becoming more and more collectible as vintage Fender prices become unattainable for us mere mortals. The longest serving basses I own are both JVs - a Precision and a Jazz and I have not found a Jazz as good as my JV Squier of any brand or age. Keep in mind I had an early 80’s US Jazz when I bought it as a ‘spare’ and immediately decided the genuine Fender had to go! That was 34 years ago.
One thing about the bass on eBay is that it is a later one (I’m unsure where the ‘only 16 sunburst models made’ claim in the ad comes from either, as ever refer to the ‘21frets’ website for all things JV). The bass has the none reverse machine heads and Allen key adjustable bridge saddles whereas there are reverse windings on mine like an early 60’s model and threaded bridge saddles with slot headed screws. A nice bass nonetheless- if it were nearer I’d offer him £700 cash. If it were an earlier model I’d snap it up at £800.

That is ridiculous!  The seller has played the buyer like a fish, just hope the buyer gets wise and demands a refund through paypal.

Yes that is misrepresenting goods - guilty your honour. Hope they get their money back. The clever ploy of blurry photos and ‘ignorance’.

  8. Moog Subsequent 25 analog synth.

This is the latest version of Sub(sequent) series and has had many tweaks and improvements from its earlier sibling the Subphatty. This synth has seen little use since it purchased in September 2020. It is beautifully made and sounds wonderful with an upgraded look and the benefits of being duophonic. Very high quality synth engine based on the subsequent series and an upgraded keybed.

Great little Moog with all the classic sounds. Selling as I’m not using it much and I have too many synths. Boxed with all manuals.

I can post in the UK at buyer’s risk and cost. No trades no offers. Sorry I need to downsize my synth collection.

A good saving on a new one.

What’s even worse is that the guy sells guitars and gear. It got I check his previous listings he obviously knows what he’s doing, so this is a blatant attempt to defraud which is such a shame. Why bother disappointing someone for a few hundred quid...?

And also I politely pointed out to him that it’s a later Squier. As yet he’s not sent an answer. I think trading off a bereavement is particularly loathsome.
