And I've gone in with both feet😁 Very friendly and helpful seller,  I asked if she could do a deal if I took both and she came back with 850 for the pair,  I know Wilkes have sold for less but I'm OK with paying 2nd hand Mex Fender prices for this sort of quality that and I've always loved an ebony fretboard😁She's volunteered her husbands delivery services too so they're getting to me safely and quicker than a courier, now I just need to move on some of the existing herd😣

Well done that’s a great deal!

  2. Hi I have this project for sale - sadly I’ve not had time to complete it and I’m moving house soon. The neck is NOS purchased from eBay last year. The body custom made by a luthier for me based on a long horn Marathon, the control plate and pickup surround (protective plastic still in place) were also custom made. The tuners are complete and Shergold types, the loom is from a stereo Marathon and will need maintenance but I believe it works. The neck plate and bridge are from a Squier bass. The pickup is a cheap one but I will included it if it’s any use.
The project needs finishing. I’m looking for offers before I put it online elsewhere as I thought there may be interest on here. I don’t want to split it really. The body is superb and was made for the neck so it’s a perfect fit. If you want the body and neck together and no other parts let me know. There are no other parts.
It’s an opportunity to create your own take on a Shergold. Thanks! No trades. Happy to post at buyer’s cost in U.K.

  3. It’s a bitsa - as others have said. It’s got some Fender parts but from different eras. The machineheads are early to mid 70s. The serial sticker on the rear of the scratchplate is later 70s and possibly it’s been stuck on a none Fender scratchplate. The neck plate has the black plastic gasket so possibly legit but copies are easy enough to buy online. The pickups would be best identified by looking at the bobbins underneath. The pots are nothing like my 70s bass - here’s a pic. It’s all very vague. The thumbrest has the brown colour of some 70s era rests. The neck is as he says a replacement.

  4. I’m selling this spare body that was used with my ‘78 P bass neck when the original body was being repaired. This is from a recent Squier 70’s Precision. As you can see the body has had a repair and a touch up at the bottom as it had a bump in transit. With neck and hardware attached it weighs around 4.2kgs. I have included a cream none original scratchplate. The earth wires are there as are the strap buttons. It’s UK only and I can post for £12.

+1 on liking the look of it.

Watching the video the seller refers to, the pickguard is optional. Without it the pickups get chrome rings. So the routing is explained if not excused!

I’ll have a look at the video. The bass reminds me of those ‘Robin Ranger’ branded US/MIJ basses you used to see in US Bass Player magazine years ago. I liked the look of those too.

  6. I take your point about the pickup rout but I like the overall design, different take on your classic Fender. I would not go anywhere near this at that price.
To like the look of something is very different from wanting to purchase it however.

I don't do relics, especially unconvincing ones - that upper bout? Eurgh!

And why couldn't he rout the pickup sockets to be the same shape as the pickups?

Ah well ... each to his own.

My first bass was a Melody Grabber copy. Was actually pretty good,  though I recall that the sliding pickup was quite microphonic. Probably nothing that a good wax potting wouldn't fix though. The body did look more like a pine kitchen table than any other wood too.

Similarly my Grabber’s body looks like a 70’s Ercol coffee table 😁
