  1. Most humbucker manufacturers go with the following convention: red and green - south coil black and white - north coil So it looks like the 2 coils have been wired in series (one coil into the next) to give more output. To get the classic ‘ray sound you’d have both coils running in parallel and a 2 band eq. If you’ve got a battery box in the bass already then it’s fairly simple to achieve this, but if not then it’s a lot more work. To use two volume controls (one for each coil) as a passive arrangement follow standard Jazz bass wiring like this: except that the top pot will have the black wire as the ‘hot’ and the white as ‘ground’ and the middle pot will have red as ‘hot’ and green as ‘ground’ . you’ll probably notice less output like this, which might be why it’s wired in series in the first place...
  2. OK Hive Mind, I'm trying to locate a pair of stacked knobs for my Jazz and would really, really some black plastic ones like this: Everywhere that advertises them seems to be sold out, except for somewhere in America that charges £20 plus £12 P&P for a set. Ki0g0n might know, so I'll PM him, but if anyone knows of anywhere in the UK (or even mainland Europe) that has them then please let me know.
  3. I thought this thread was about the Rolling Stones...
  4. Now redundant Onespot power supply virtually brand new. I bought this last year when my old PSU failed and used it to power my board for about 3 gigs, then I bought a Zoom B3n at the start of this year and it’s been sat in the cupboard since. price includes p&p to mainland UK. Output is 9v ‘standard’ centre negative supply and up to 1.7 A of current, so plenty of juice on tap. Powers up to 8 pedals, not recommended for mixing analogue and digital pedals, but will quite happily power one or the other.
  5. Probably for the best; if you haven't the balls to carry a pink guitar through the town centre then you've got no business playing a ukulele.
  6. I’m rocking the Zoom B3n for the majority of effects; still loving the DHA VT2 for my dirt though.
  7. I had a Blade bass years ago; best Jazz I ever played!
  8. Samson wireless unit for sale due to not really gigging bigger venues anymore. I bought this from Mickeyboro last year at a bargain price of £40 and have been gigging with it since, but due to work commitments I’m scaling back my gig diary. as stated in the original post the battery clip on the transmitter had come off, but a rubber band works fine, and the top 5mm it so on one of the aerials is bent, but works fine. Flipping this for the same bargainous price that I got it for. Probably a couple of quid for p&p to mainland UK. link to original post is here:
  9. Nothing on the Wals that he used for about a decade then?

Nice! Looks like someone's really thought about the EQ (switchable bell curve on Hi and Low) Compressor on the XLR inputs and a G series Buss compressor too. Still kind of pricey though...
  11. I don’t like anything round my wrist when I’m playing; I even roll shirt cuffs back if I’m playing a ‘suit do’.
  12. ‘A Show Of Hands’ by Rush is my preferred album for a lot of their keyboard-heavy 80s output, just adds a bit more life to the material. Superior to the sterile studio sound they had at that time.
  13. I’ve recently replaced the majority of my analogue effects with one of these; digital effects have come s LONG way in the last 20 years!
  14. Not specific companies, but get the fastest processor you can afford. Everything else that you need (SSD and oodles of RAM) can be upgraded later; you can’t ‘upgrade’ your processor at a later date. Also I’d check the IO ports on the left hand side, as older models will still support FireWire and newer ones won’t, look at which interface you’ll be using and plan accordingly.
  15. I’ve got Dunlop flats on my fretted bass and cobalts on my fretless. As a direct comparison I’d say the EB Cobalts are a touch brighter and lower tension than the Dunlops, almost identical to round wounds really.
  16. I can go from 25Hz to about 15kHz through a pair of Grado SR60s any normal listening volume. Not as bad as I thought it would be.
  17. My main strap is a 3" neoprene one for my dicky shoulder that I use for both basses and skinny guitar. I've got a couple of others lying around that I don't really use. Big, fat, stretchy straps are the way forward.
  18. 'Blood and Rockets' from the latest offering by the Claypool Lennon Delirium. The whole album is brilliant!
  19. Running a dual amp rig through one cab at the moment: Ampeg B410hlf internally split into a sealed 2x10 with horn and a ported 2x10 at the bottom. Ampeg SVP PRO goes to the ‘low’ 2x10 and the other channel is driven by my B3n (after being split on my pedal board using a Behringer He’ll babe wah) into the 2nd channel of the Laney PA amp. Achieving dual amping with much less lifting!!
