  1. For my vocal harmonies and approximately pitched shouting (both in the same band) I’m happy with anything that doesn’t smell too bad. Some rehearsal rooms are better then others in this respect...
  2. And also did some voice work on Teletubbies. Says it all really.
  3. Fuzzdog do one called the Big Beefy Preamp. I’ve made a couple and they’re very good. https://shop.pedalparts.co.uk/Big_Beefy_Preamp_-_Boost_and_Overdrive/p847124_10530483.aspx or a simple booster https://shop.pedalparts.co.uk/Acti-Boost_-_Type_A_and_Type_R/p847124_10449859.aspx
  4. My Amp SVP PRO has a full compliment of Watford tubes in it (Harma brand) and it's awesome. Derek is the tube-guru, so he'll probably be able to advise what your amp is capable of or not. A chat costs nothing.
  5. Zappa here too. I listen to loads of other stuff, but compositionally Zappa sets the bar; damn tricky to reach it though.
  6. Sid Vicious. Steve Jones played the bass parts on ‘Never Mind the Bollocks’. Much good it did him.
  7. Yup, 12AX7 (or ECC83) are standard as regards voltage and current requirements, and have identical pin outs, so you can basically stick anything in there. It’s always worth a phone call to Derek at Watford Valves to discuss your requirements (more bassy / mid rangey, early breakup etc) as he really knows his onions.
  8. How big does that rout need to be for the controls though - it's MAHOOSIVE!!!
  9. Sibelius First is now a freebie, but is limited to 4 instruments.
  10. What’s available in the dedicated valve power amp markets? Just curious.
  11. Having a bit of a clear out at the moment and found a Big Muff clone with a clean blend and AMZ presence control (mid cut and boost) built to Black Russian specs and switchable between one and two clipping stages. Fuzzdog pub inside and board mounted pots. sold
  12. This. I got into making effects out of necessity, and now make them for fun; I genuinely enjoy making pedals that I’m not necessarily going to use. They’re mostly on veroboard so I can tinker with the circuitry and learn about what’s happening at any given point on the board.
  13. I used Aluminium tape in all of my basses - remember to fold it over when overlapping joints, so that the glue doesn't insulate one piece from another. Arguably copper tape tends to give a better finish as the Al stuff wrinkles easily (as has already been mentioned), but given that it's pickup cavities and control routs it's a moot point.

Technobots carry a lot of stock too, definitely worth a look.
  15. Will have a go at recording some samples too.
  16. Nothing special inside, usual veroboard and stuff...
  17. Built by my own fair trotters to see if it’s something I’d use. It isn’t. Didn't label the box as it was just a bit of an experiment, but it has drive, blend, level and tone controls as per the original. True bypass and 9v adapter only. Price includes p&p to UK mainland.

Finished a Fuzzdog Bug Muff Blend pedal this week - lovely thing. Built it to Black Russian specs but I didn’t have 390 ohm resistors did the transistor emitters so used 330 instead; just a smidgen more gain never hurt anyone, right? I think there’s a phasing issue with the blend though.
  19. EHX Headphone amp. Good pair of cans/earbuds and you're laughing. Been using one for years and only been through a couple of 9v batteries.
