This. Use the amp and cab simulator too and sound better than a practice amp!

Took deliver of one of these today and it’s awesome. I’ve always wanted to make JPJ’s ‘wobbly, dirty’ Heartbreaker sound come out of my amp; this gets really, really close! loads of features too - polyphonic octaves up and down make for a Hammond organ type effect, and the fast and slow rotary speeds can be set independently or controlled with an expression pedal.

What famous musicians death most shocked you
paul_5 replied to dmccombe7's topic in General Discussion
Freddie Mercury. Just didn’t see it coming, and was still enjoying the ‘Innuendo’ album immensely. looking back at the music videos that Queen were releasing in 1990/1991 it was obvious that Freddie was very, very ill, but back then I didn’t really bother with videos; I still don’t. -
This. Green tortex all the way. I only use a pick for a few ‘punkier’ numbers in one of my bands and have never dropped a tortex; other non-coated ones just fly out of my hands.

Update: Tort or Pearl scratchplate on my Jazz - what do you think?
paul_5 replied to Marc S's topic in General Discussion
I think tort looks better with a rosewood board, and pearl goes better with maple. I reckon tort for this too, as it suits the ‘60s control plate - the Pearl looks too modern. Nice bass too!- 44 replies

Yeah, Abe’s the 6 stringer.

Some folks prefer that though; mostly on here too, the filthy deviants. 😄

Thanks for the heads up.

Got this off the ‘Bay a couple of months ago to experiment with a wah, but I’m ore of an Envelope Filter player, so it’s been sat languishing in a cupboard after a couple of uses. Treadle works identically to the Dunlop, in that the wah automatically disengages when you take your foot off. Adjustable Q and Range controls on the side as well as a boost circuit. The wah mechanism is optical, so no worries about the pot wearing out either.

I done a thing with both of my Jazz basses: Usual J pups with a MM hum bucker in the 'sweet spot' with individual volumes for each pup. Recently I've put both Jazz pups on a stacked knob and put a master tone control on there just to add a bit more functionality. The switch is an on/on/on - enabling individual coils of the MM, or both in parallel for that classic 'Stingray' sound. I was a bit twitchy about routing the bodies, but they turned out great, and sound amazing too!

Shove some Rush in there - pick anything from Hold Your Fire or Power Windows and no one will notice that you haven’t got a guitarist! 😄

Early Cure songs work well as a 3 piece.

Most humbucker manufacturers go with the following convention: red and green - south coil black and white - north coil So it looks like the 2 coils have been wired in series (one coil into the next) to give more output. To get the classic ‘ray sound you’d have both coils running in parallel and a 2 band eq. If you’ve got a battery box in the bass already then it’s fairly simple to achieve this, but if not then it’s a lot more work. To use two volume controls (one for each coil) as a passive arrangement follow standard Jazz bass wiring like this: except that the top pot will have the black wire as the ‘hot’ and the white as ‘ground’ and the middle pot will have red as ‘hot’ and green as ‘ground’ . you’ll probably notice less output like this, which might be why it’s wired in series in the first place...

OK Hive Mind, I'm trying to locate a pair of stacked knobs for my Jazz and would really, really some black plastic ones like this: Everywhere that advertises them seems to be sold out, except for somewhere in America that charges £20 plus £12 P&P for a set. Ki0g0n might know, so I'll PM him, but if anyone knows of anywhere in the UK (or even mainland Europe) that has them then please let me know.
