  2. I’m toying with rewiring my 410HLF to be 2 2x10 cabs (in the same box) to run 2 preamps into 2 seperate channels on my PA amp and have one half for dirty bass and the other for clean. Having looked at the wiring diagram from Ampeg there are 4 4ohm drivers currently wired in Series/Parallel to give the total impedance of 4ohms. I’d have to wire them as 2 8ohm pairs to run properly from my PA amp. Does anyone have any earthly reason why I shouldn’t do this? I’m using a buffered splitter and not just a shitty cobbled together lead, so the bass signal is properly split and should avoid any impedance issues, the only thing I foresee being a problem is the horn/ crossover arrangement (I intend to only use this with one of the speaker pairs) and probably some dispersion issues if the signal phases aren’t bob-on. Does anyone immediately think “Don’t do it!!!!”?
  3. Comes with some autographed bass picks too, just like Geddy doesn’t use...
  4. SOLD Up for sale is my backup octaver. Chord OC50 is s Boss OC2 ‘soundalike’ in an extremely robust metal casing. Velcro on the underside. Yours for £25. Can post at buyer’s expense. SOLD
  5. I’ve recently put some Ernie Ball Cobalts on my ‘bright’ Jazz (2 piece hard ash body, maple neck and board) and they’re brilliant; bright enough when I need them to be, but loads of lows too.

Recently I’ve been ordering from ESR.co.uk they carry most standard components (resistors, caps, opamps and trannys etc...) but I still need to find a supplier for mojo stuff.
  7. I’d like to join. Does buying shed loads of components to make little boxes to cure my pedal GAS count?
  8. George L cables are brilliant, I haven’t used anything else for years.
  9. I recently bought a DHA VT2 from PBasspecial of this parish and it arrived damaged; RM had managed to smash (utterly) both valves despite liberal amounts of bubble-wrap, foam peanuts and a sturdy cardboard box marked ‘fragile’. I put in a claim for compensation as I had to shell out for 2 new valves. Yesterday I received a letter acknowledging that it had been damaged, but as they were unsure of when, where or how they were unable to issue compensation. They enclosed their ‘sincere apologies’ and a book of 6 first-class stamps, presumably for crushing other things, saving me future visits to my local waste dump. What a bunch of utter flipwits. Naturally I’m taking the claim further.
  10. Billy Sheehan on anything he’s ever done. LOVE that tone!
  11. I’m not a P player by any means, but’I’ve always loved the P bass sound on Frank Zappa’s ‘Broadway the Hard Way’ and ‘Tinseltown Rebellion’ albums; different players (Scott Thuned and Arthur Barrow respectively) but both do a fine job.
  12. Any 12AX7 would work in there, Watford Valves has an extensive range with very thorough descriptions of the sound of the different tubes. It’s certainly worth a browse of their website if nothing else. Also bear in mind that Behringer kit is built to budget, so by putting an upgraded tube in there will probably improve the sound noticeably.
  13. Mrs_5 and I have a piece of advice that we give to each other when going for important meetings/interviews etc... ”try not to be a twät”. Works every time.
  14. Agreed, these are AWESOME trems!
  15. I'd call that a positive conclusion to the festivities.
  16. Last night was one of our usual haunts; rushed setup due to the football being on telly, but was a hood gig. Usual 2 1/2 hours of shenanigans betwixt band members meant that we had a good giggle as well as the crowd. This afternoon was a quick 40 minute spot at the Head for the Hills festival in Ramsbottom. Just took a bass and a lead and found an SVT Classic head and 6x10 ready to plug into. Equally enjoyable performance from all involved. Off to work now for a rest! 😉
  17. Bought a DHA VT2 from Paul and it arrived the next day. Packaging was brilliant (air bags, foam peanuts, bubble-wrap) but the Royal Mail still managed to break both valves. Paul has gone above and beyond to help me to claim from the RM for their Neanderthal handlers. Wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again.
  18. Yup. I love jazz. Jazz, jazz, jazz.
  19. Good chorus layout too, but you’ll need the proper ICs.
  20. Bought last month from another BC’er as a stop-gap for some jobs while my power supply was being replaced on my pedalboard. Now it’s surplus to requirements and back up. Twenty five of your earth pounds seals the deal. Sold
  21. I’m usually in there with Slander, but only when we can’t get somewhere a bit more local to everyone as we’re spread out all over the country. What about yourself young fella?
  22. Yeah!!! Got this on vinyl the year it came out and always thought that my turntable was broken as there was no low end at all. It’s a real missed opportunity to make good on what this album should have been, but apparently there were so many drum edits on the tape that it’s too fragile to remix from the originals. F#@king Lars. Again.
  23. Know it well, rehearsed there a few times and yes, it's a gem of a rehearsal space. 8x10 GAS is easily cured by hiring one for a run of gigs and then schlepping it around and up/down stairs etc...
  24. I’ve built a couple of blueberries, and the LED clipping diodes are what make it fizzy, try replacing them with 1N4148s and doubling the value of the input cap from 47nf to 100nf or greater.
  25. Ampeg SVP’s preamp our into a Behringer deHummer box and then into my Laney SP300. I used to bridge the power amp to 300w at 8 ohms, but as my new cab is 4 ohms then I’m having to use it set to stereo and just use one channel. Still plenty loud enough at 150w at 4ohms though.
