Metallica’s ‘Murder One’ is a tribute to Lemmy, and shares the name of his bass amp.

The first two knobs are unaltered; standard volume controls for the J pups. The knob that was for the master tone is now the volume for the MM pup. The small switch is an on/on/on for 1st (bridge) coil, both coils in parallel (MM sound) and 2nd (bridge) coil, giving 12 different configurations.

I’ve always loved playing Jazz basses but recently I’ve had a hankering for some Stingray vibes from my fretless. I present to you Exhibit A

I love Jazzes. Ended up doing some punky stuff at rehearsal last night, so just ran the neck pickup soloed and turned up the ‘drive’ knob on my Ampeg pre. Glorious. Just glorious. Not quite the Precision tone, but good enough in the mix.

DSM Omnicab is REALLY useful for recording bass - Direct 'thru' output means that you can record straight from the bass to re-process later if you need to.

Steely Dan in turn took their name from a dildo in William S. Burroughs’ ‘Naked Lunch’. Not a song, but still interesting.

I sometimes do this. Also I have been known to put my foot up on a wedge, never at the same time though; people can’t generally handle that degree of ‘entertainment’.

One particular gig I left an entire band behind. Sometimes you just outgrow people. ☹️

I've just ordered a second one of these after fitting one in my fretless Jazz. I used a Stingray scratch plate as a routing template to get both the 'sweet spot' and the right sized rout. It looks to be identical in size to a 'standard' Musician pickup, as the scratch plate is a lovely snug fit around the pickup. There isn't really any information on wiring it up, so I had to get my meter out to check which coil is which; not even a sheet of paper in the packet... Wiring is as follows: Red wire is HOT for J coil Thick Black wire is GROUND for J coil Thin Black wire is HOT for MM coil White wire is GROUND for MM Coil.

Just ordered one of the Caline Orange Bursts to see what all the fuss is about.

Move your baseline up an octave and use an octaver is one idea, bass chords/tenths work well as do arpeggiated chords.

Great rumbly cabs but enough top to cut through a mix. Wheels are an absolute must!

That looks like the ‘muffin top’ of the bass world.

That’s fine until you realise that you have to play every gig with your knob hanging out.
