1. So sad to hear this. Malcolm was one of the most solid rhythm players ever, so much so that I reckon he'd have made a brilliant bassist.
2. Anyone have any experience of working with paulownia wood or know how it sounds? I’m considering getting a body for a cheap project and was after some info.
3. I realise that they're not to everyone's taste, but I'd rather he spend his time on making yet more custom instruments than another U2 album.
4. Dep rehearsal last night, a couple of punk tunes came up and had a blast; there is joy in a beefy, grindy Ampeg tone. ?
5. I've always loved this version of Summertime from the same album:
6. That’s my plan for this one too 😉
7. Had one of these years ago and let it go during a spell of redundancy. Fortunately this week BC'er extraordinaire Pentode messaged me in response to my 'Items Wanted' post. This arrived shortly after:
8. Just bought an Amp SVP PRO from Pentode after months of searching. He even posted it to me for 'approval' as he wasn't sure of its functionality. Ridiculously happy about all of this. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Grahame to any BCer. Deal with extreme confidence.
9. Or give Roland Lumby a bell at The Amp Clinic in Salford https://www.facebook.com/theampclinic/ Über tube guru.
10.
It could be a microphonic tube. Gently tap on them with a pencil to find out.
This.
11. Ampeg SVP Pro preamp 😟 Just bought another 😊
12. Frankly I wouldn’t put a potato anywhere near any of my basses. (4 in a row for me though).
13. Gaaaaahhhhh!!! My eyes, my beautiful eyes!! 😵
14. As a general rule of thumb, if it's got more knobs than strings then you're a technician, not a bassist.
15. Mine has to be a dreadful Rickenbacker copy in the mid 90s. It was languishing in a friend's garage so I thought I'd give to a go; sounded horrible with really weak pickups and the neck was like a Robin Hood reject. Closely followed by an actual Rickenbacker.
16. Glynn Johns technique all the way. You’ll need a good sounding kit and a good room too. I like to measure the distance between the overheads and pop a condenser mic that distance away from the centre of the snare level with the top of the bass drum - you’ll get more kick and Tom that way.
17. Price is just for the Ampeg, rack and power amp not included
18. SOLD Something's come up for sale that I'd really like, so this is going I got a bargain price to encourage a quick sale. It's got some cosmetic damage but sounds great and is really quiet on the studio and live. Pictures to follow. PRICE DROP £180
