1. Tina Weymouth's work with Talling Heads especially 'Once in a lifetime'.
2. 1N400x (probably a 4007 or 4009) polarity protection diode. They're pence to buy and easy to replace. My worry is that if it's gone 'open circuit' then it's allowed 18v to go further than just that one component and could have potentially damaged something else.
3. Updated my OS and haven't got drivers for this anymore; excellent condition and fully functional - 2 mic inputs with phantom power, MIDI in and out, Line and Instrument ins and separate monitor and master outputs. Ability to monitor inputs simultaneously with DAW audio means that it effectively does zero latency monitoring when recording. 48kHz and 24 bit recording via USB power or mains adapter (not supplied). Pics to follow.
4.
Bb. A string first fret. You cant tell me that's not a pukka note.
Dunno. I like Bb too, but prefer it at 6th fret on the E string; got a bit more meat to it.
5. Sorry to hear this Evil Undead. I remember your post when you first got that bass; you were so happy to have found a solution to your problem. Hope you get sorted again.
6. Any multiFX unit or amp with an aux in will allow you to play along with audio from any source (iPod, laptop etc) or there's an app called iRealbook that's got thousands of jazz standard chord charts on screen and plays backing tracks in real time. There's also lots of book & cd packages out there in any number of styles.
7. At least an i5 processor (i7 if you can stretch to it), and definitely a solid state drive for your software. If it's a MacBook then pop the DVD drive out and install a second SSD for your audio. Lots of RAM too, but again that can be added later.
8.
That's 2 of us from Blackburn then! Welcome!
3 really, except that I don't live there anymore. Welcome on board Duroc17
9.
(Or is it a typo and you meant 6 string?)
This. I hate BCing on my iPhone!
10. Whenever I get like this I like to pick up a 5 string guitar and muck about with jazz chords/standards. It allows me to take a break from the bass, but still be actively musical.
11. Anyone know where I can source cheap Stingray style body; got a fretless neck that needs to be used...
12. Larry LaLonde (Ler) from Primus. Les Claypool gets a lot of attention (and rightly so) but I'm always fascinated by what Ler does because without it Primus stuff would get really boring really quickly; his choice of harmony reminds me a lot of Andy Summers, but better.
13. I find that imagining playing the songs (visualising it) helps me to get 'in the zone', failing that some stretching and breathing exercises.
14. allparts have them in, but they're a couple of quid each. https://www.allparts.uk.com/products/jack-socket-stereo-9-pin-pcb-mount-for-rumble-series
15. A heavily modified DOD FX25. Doesn't really help you in your search, but I love mine! LPF is definitely better (IMHO) for bass. Band Pass can be useful too, but for most 'serious' filter use (not just monkeying about at home) it's LPF every time.
16.
I know that this isn't something you should admit on a bass guitar forum, but I have never enjoyed listening to Rush and I never will. Terrific musicianship but I just can't stand the sound of Geddy's voice.
I feel exactly the same way about Black Sabbath.
17. Solo neck pickup, roll some the top end off and boost the mids on your amp. 👌🏻
18. Nice! That's a cleaner example than mine. These things sound amazing and are whisper-quiet in the studio thanks to the tiny 'hum balance' control on the back. The EQ channel is foot switchable too.
19. I've ended up with 2 copies of Ed Friedland's 'Building Walking Basslines' books (with CD). Both in very good condition; selling them for a tenner each and I'll cover P&P to mainland UK.
