1. Just bought an Amp SVP PRO from Pentode after months of searching. He even posted it to me for 'approval' as he wasn't sure of its functionality. Ridiculously happy about all of this. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Grahame to any BCer. Deal with extreme confidence.
2. Or give Roland Lumby a bell at The Amp Clinic in Salford https://www.facebook.com/theampclinic/ Über tube guru.
3.
It could be a microphonic tube. Gently tap on them with a pencil to find out.
This.
4. Ampeg SVP Pro preamp 😟 Just bought another 😊
5. Frankly I wouldn’t put a potato anywhere near any of my basses. (4 in a row for me though).
6. Gaaaaahhhhh!!! My eyes, my beautiful eyes!! 😵
7. Price drop to £180
8. As a general rule of thumb, if it's got more knobs than strings then you're a technician, not a bassist.
9. Mine has to be a dreadful Rickenbacker copy in the mid 90s. It was languishing in a friend's garage so I thought I'd give to a go; sounded horrible with really weak pickups and the neck was like a Robin Hood reject. Closely followed by an actual Rickenbacker.
10. Glynn Johns technique all the way. You’ll need a good sounding kit and a good room too. I like to measure the distance between the overheads and pop a condenser mic that distance away from the centre of the snare level with the top of the bass drum - you’ll get more kick and Tom that way.
11. Price is just for the Ampeg, rack and power amp not included
12. SOLD Something's come up for sale that I'd really like, so this is going I got a bargain price to encourage a quick sale. It's got some cosmetic damage but sounds great and is really quiet on the studio and live. Pictures to follow. PRICE DROP £180
13. Nice that!
14. Forgot about this bump.
15. Tina Weymouth's work with Talling Heads especially 'Once in a lifetime'.
16. 1N400x (probably a 4007 or 4009) polarity protection diode. They're pence to buy and easy to replace. My worry is that if it's gone 'open circuit' then it's allowed 18v to go further than just that one component and could have potentially damaged something else.
17. Updated my OS and haven't got drivers for this anymore; excellent condition and fully functional - 2 mic inputs with phantom power, MIDI in and out, Line and Instrument ins and separate monitor and master outputs. Ability to monitor inputs simultaneously with DAW audio means that it effectively does zero latency monitoring when recording. 48kHz and 24 bit recording via USB power or mains adapter (not supplied). Pics to follow.
18.
Bb. A string first fret. You cant tell me that's not a pukka note.
Dunno. I like Bb too, but prefer it at 6th fret on the E string; got a bit more meat to it.
19. Sorry to hear this Evil Undead. I remember your post when you first got that bass; you were so happy to have found a solution to your problem. Hope you get sorted again.
20. Any multiFX unit or amp with an aux in will allow you to play along with audio from any source (iPod, laptop etc) or there's an app called iRealbook that's got thousands of jazz standard chord charts on screen and plays backing tracks in real time. There's also lots of book & cd packages out there in any number of styles.
21. At least an i5 processor (i7 if you can stretch to it), and definitely a solid state drive for your software. If it's a MacBook then pop the DVD drive out and install a second SSD for your audio. Lots of RAM too, but again that can be added later.
22.
That's 2 of us from Blackburn then! Welcome!
3 really, except that I don't live there anymore. Welcome on board Duroc17
23.
(Or is it a typo and you meant 6 string?)
This. I hate BCing on my iPhone!
