1. Octave gets the priority, but occasionally I'll add some chorus. A little bit of valve grit for me too.
2. I've got a Laney SP300 power amp knocking about somewhere - very solid (and loud) 2U rack mountable amp. Heavy (big old tordial transformer in there), but good.
3. What other equipment are you using?
4. Ramsbottom. There's a lovely mix of bands and DJs 😄
5. I passed up the opportunity to see them on the Monster tour (in Cardiff I think it was). I've not made many bad decisions in my life, but that's definitely one of them.
6. In contrast to the majority of folks on this thread I prefer the later stuff: Automatic For The People, Monster and New Adventures In Hifi are all amazing albums.
7.
If you have 1 minute, listen to this: https://www.youtube....h?v=ruTfC5v9Z2Y
Brilliant!!!
8. +1 for the Ed Friedland books.
9. I had a five string one for years. Stripped the paint off it to reveal some lovely wood underneath. Waxed it and gigged it for years. Sold it due toi the string spacing being a bit too narrow for me. Great sound though, whether running passive or active.
10.
Threaded inserts would solve the problem so it'll never move...
That was my first thought...
however, if you want to do that mod to a 70s Fender is one you'd have to think carefully about.
That was my second
11. Barefaced Compact can be had for roughly £500 second hand. I use mine in exactly the same band setup as you and it's great!
12.

Ah, there it is; the BC equivalent of 'Mornington Crescent'.
13. Jamerson and Kaye both taught me how to play the bass. One of them wrote it down, the other didn't.
14. I've got Dunlop Flats (45 to 105) on my fretless Jazz. Love 'em. I still get lots of 'twang' out of them, but then I've got a really heavy plucking technique.
15. We refer to it as a 'push'. Quite common in rock and essential in Motown/Soul music too. AC/DC have made a career out of syncopated blues, as have many others. If it helps then show this to your drummer, might help him to understand if he sees it as well as (not quite) listens to it... 16. I think it's a better use of money than than the £369m we're spending on Buckingham Palace.
17. I use a file on mine to get down to the bare metal, then use a temperature controlled iron and good old 60/40 lead/tin solder. Works every time.
18.
I'll go for the two not on the list: Envelope Filter and Octave pedal...plus chuck in a Synth as 3rd choice.
You can't be BoOtsy without a filter and an octave! 😉
19. Overdrive and Octave. (DHA VT1 EQ and Boss OC2 if we're being specific...) Why is Octave not on the list???!!!!!???!!!
20. 2016 can f*** right off.
21. Some sort of octave is always good for this sort of thing; if you're looking at an octave down (OC2, OC3, EBS Octabass, Aguilar OctaBass etc...) then you'll have to play the line up and octave to really get the benefit, or you could use an octave UP (EHX POG or HOG etc...) and play the line as it is. Secret option 'c' is to use an octave fuzz - this'll add lots of dirt to your sound in addition to an octave above every note you play - not appropriate for every situation, but LOTS of fun.
22. One of my fave Floyd tracks. http://youtu.be/pJh9OLlXenM
23. Could you not feed the monitors from the PA?
24. NBD = new bass day, often found after a period of GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) of indeterminate length. There's also FML (f*** my life) but that's for another time...
25. Sometimes 😉
