1. I don't use it live - playing in a metal band means that I go in heavy with my right (plucking) hand and keep it up throughout the show. The sound engineer is more than welcome to add some through FOH if they want to, but on-stage it's not what I need. That said, I never turn my DHA VT1 off, so there's a little bit of tube compression coming from that and the tube pre in my SWR head. In the studio it's de rigeur.
2. Some video of 'On the Run' from Slander's set. https://youtu.be/UZB2cdVL03Y Enjoy - we did!
3. I wouldn't worry. By BF Compact is more than capable of competing with 2 Hundred Watt valve heads and an 'enthusiastic' drummer. My head delivers about 400W into 8 ohms (bridged) and it rarely goes above 30%. BF stuff is really efficient, so more of the power from your amp is converted into lovely low end grunt, and less of it becomes undesirable heat etc...
4. Played the 'Day of Rock' in Kettering last night. The event was sponsored by Marshall, so we were using their cabs. I wasn't impressed at all; I even turned my amp down onstage so I couldn't hear it, and just relied on the monitors. The power on stage was dirty (I suspect that having the lights on the same ring was the culprit), so the guitarist's digital board became a noise generator and he didn't use it. On stage sound wasn't the best and it was a 6 hour round trip. Had to count the drummer in a couple of times because he couldn't hear the guitarist etc... So a couple of issues. We had a blast though, and made the best of a less than perfect setup. All in all not the best gig I've played, but we met some great guys, and have picked up a lot of work off the back of it.
5. Setting off to play at the Day Of Rock* in Kettering later on today. *includes 6 hours driving
6. It's relatively easy to get replacement pots for pedals. What you need to know is what value it is (100k, 500k etc..) and the taper (logarithmic or linear) these will be indicated by a capital A or B. It can also be tricky to desolder stuff from the board if you're not used to doing it.
7. I've resisted posting on this thread, but I reckon it's time for some perspective. I don't really think it's fair to have a go at someone you've never met - granted the image that some people create is less than favourable, but editing has a LOT to do with how people are perceived than you'd think. I now first hand how some unscrupulous journalists can 'paraphrase' you to the extent that within a few short paragraphs you end up having said the opposite to what you meant. Mainstream media love its soundbites too, and you can give an interview comprised of 95% positivity and rainbows and sh*t, but guess which 5% ends up being taken out of context and circulated….
8. I've got the VT1 (half of this unit in a pedal) and I use mine straight into the amp. This allows me to send 'my sound' to front of house via the DI out, and use the amp's EQ to compensate for the room. I've also used the 'boost' function and gone straight into a power amp with equally good results. Really great sounding and flexible units.
9.
Halfway through our last gig I realised we were on our 4th Stevie Wonder song -[s]woops![/s] AWESOME!!!
Fixed.
10. 3 (or 4): a clip on, a pedal (mounted on the board), an in-built on one my guitar multi FX, and a plugin that came with Pro tools (does that count?)
11. The simplest bass mod for increased low end response on a RAT just needs a pair of wire cutters. Give this a go: http://www.diyguitaramp.com/rat.html You can cut either end of the resistor indicated by the photos in this article; the outcome is the same.
12. Last 'local' gig was the Fireproof Petshop featuring Mike Walker on guitar, and they were one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Last 'name' band was Primus at Manchester Apollo on the Wonka tour, which was equally as enjoyable.
13. LOVE your tone rambam - nailed it!
14. 'Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me' by the Smiths takes a while to get going...
15. First time I heard Jaco was on a Weather Report Greatest Hits album. I didn't gel with a lot of it, but Birdland and Teentown were a real revelation to a player of only 3 or 4 years experience.
16. Nice! That was my very first fuzz pedal (roughly 20 years ago), and I've been through a couple of dozen since then. Just finished making a clone of one of these (purely nostalgic) and loving the sound again. GLWTS
17. My regular band has had the same lineup for about 2 years. No issues; we're a bunch of pricks and we don't carry egos. At all. We constantly 'poke fun' at each other on a Facebook page. The only thing we take seriously is the music.
18. You might get away with some Suede too, depending on the range of your singer - they had some GREAT tunes!
19.
New guitarist. . . sorted.
This. Life's too short for being frustrated with your band.
20. Top tip for anyone getting into DAW / computer recording: Get to know your keyboard shortcuts - you'll ultimately spend less time trying to find stuff on the screen and more time playing. I've used Cubase on MAC and PC, and the only real difference as far as I recall (not used a PC for a while) is that Windows used to lose USB drivers pretty regularly, and the Mac seldom did.
21. Stick some Sleeper tracks in there. I loved them. 'Sale of the Century' is a great one to play. Stick a couple of Björk tracks in there too - 'Army of me' has a neat little groove. Anything by The Cranberries / Alanis Morissette / Cardigans / No Doubt / The Breeders
22.
Someone's mentioned chorus before. What's the trick to that great sound?
LOADS of chorus, really deep and slow. Use a pick too…
23. Played it for the first time this summer as part of the set for a live classic rock karaoke band. We had a lot of fun on that particular occasion.
